Upgrade Computer Or Build A New Computer

Computer Build?

These are the parts I'm looking into for my new build. It's my first time and I'm wondering if anyone with a little more experience can give some input on my choices. Thx

CPu - E8400 WOLFDALE
GPU - 8800GT
PSU - COOLER MASTER EXTREME RP-550-PCAR 550W
CASE - COOLER MASTER CENTURION 5 CZC-TO5-UW
CPU COOLER - ROSEWILL RCX-Z775-EX
MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L
RAM - G.SKILL 2BG (2X1GB) DDR2 SDRAM 800 (PC2 6400)
HDD - SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.10 ST3500630AS 500GB

I am planning on doing some minor OC'n on the CPU, but not messing with the VCore. I already own a monitor and its highest res. is 1028x768 which I'm happy enough with. I am also putting in a Win-TV 150MCE and LG DVD-RW Drive.

Will this powersupply be sufficient and is this a good choice for a budget gaming computer?

How to build a computer?

I plan to build a PC from scratch hopefully as cheaplyt as possible, (that means mostly from ebay), Im a bit of a serious newbie at the moment and I ahve some serious learning to do, my main question is, how do you know if all the arts you buy, motherboard, CPU, RAM, Hard drive ect. are all compatible? thanks

Also, what do you think the best way would be to learn about building PCs?

Should I upgrade this desktop or just build my own computer?

Hi, I read your previous question. I looked up the beep code list, and here it is.

http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/INTEL/4000474/400047431.shtml

It will tell you exactly what's wrong since if the PC actually starts up, it's very likely not to be a faulty processor. Maybe it's your RAM thats failing. Check the beep codes with your PC beep's.

Processors rarely fail if not overclocked, and BSOD's happen alot when the PC is dusty and overheating. Overheating of the processor will shut the PC down. Maybe it's as simple as cleaning the heatsink so the air can pass through and cool the component.

If you want to build, I suggest getting Sandy Bridge.

i5 2500 $210
Z68 motherboard $120
4GB RAM (8GB if needed) $30 ($60)
GTX 560 / Radeon 6870 $200
1 Terabyte hard disk $65
DVD drive $20
CASE $80
Power supply 500W. $80

Intel's new 2nd gen (SANDY BRIDGE) processors are much faster than the Phenom 2's and are nearly on par with the i7's when compared.

This PC would let you play Battlefield 3 at the recommended spec's. The prices are rough estimates but the prices depending on the actual components you pick, they should vary slightly + - $20 or something like that.

It is well under the 1k budget but if you wanted to hit 1k, I suggest upgrading to a GTX 570 and a SSD drive.

Also, be aware that you could use old components from your old PC such as the DVD drive.

These would be ideal spec's. It will let you play modern games on high settings at a good HD resolution.

You would also need a copy of Windows 7, this would cost around $100.

I, at the moment, have a pre-built computer. Should I upgrade to another pre-built or build my own computer, for gaming?

It really depends on what you want/need, how much you have to spend, and as an option is upgrading your current pre-built computer is viable. If your machine is a desktop computer and it has a standard sized case (motherboard), then you should be able to upgrade it, what you want/vs what your computer has will determine if it’s worth your time/effort.Also I’m assuming that you have the skills to build a computer.Pretty much all the parts of a desktop computer should be able to upgraded, it just depends on whether the parts in the current system has enough performance to meet your requirements.Even a desktop with integrated can have a graphic card added, if there are empty slot(s) open.Sometimes a full format or installation of a new HDD with a clean install of windows or your operating system is all that is needed to help with a sluggish computer. If you are wanting to significantly increase the performance of the computer then a cpu upgrade and maybe motherboard upgrade may be needed. You would have to share information/specs on what you have right now, and what specs you want to upgrade to or build/buy. If you want more specific suggestions or opinions.I hope you found this info to be useful.

Can I use my old PC case to build a new computer?

I have a Dell xps 600 case. The case itself is meant for gaming. I planned on gutting out everything except the DVD/RW drives in it (and maybe the hard drives) and replacing everything else. Is the a possible senario? Or should I just consider getting a new case all together?

I just build a new computer and the DRAM LED red light is on, how can I fix this?

Everything else works. The fans are on including the leds. CPU fan is on. DVD drive ejects. When I opened the memory from the box I did drop it. Could this be the problem? It doesn't look like anythings broken. Also when I plug it into my monitor I get no single. Is this because of the graphics card? My motherboard has no onboard video by the way.
