Upper Abdominal Pain And Upper Back Pain

Upper back pain?

Over the past year or so, I wake up with upper right back pain. It is very inconsistent and can go a few weeks without any pain and then a few weeks with pain every morning. I usually wake from my sleep and can't get back to sleep. I've gotten an MRI and nothing showed up. The back specialist said he saw nothing physicially wrong with my back. My primary physician suggested it may be acid reflux, but I don't believe it is as I don't feel like I have acid reflux.

What could be wrong with my back?

Upper Abdominal Pain?

Im having some "rolling" pain in my upper abdomen. It started yesterday and it wasn't quite as painful as it is now, it felt more as though I was going to be sick. yesterday I drank some pepto went to class and seemed fine. It slowly came back yesterday but it felt more like hunger so I ate something and drank quite a few liquids (no alcohol) and it came back rolling pain under the bottom of my ribs. To me it doesn't feel like the acid reflux I have had in the past for years (stress related acid reflux) , it feels more like pain/sick and if I do burp it feels like bile gas or something is coming up. Though when i sit up it does lessen the pain to the point of just feeling sick. I'm worried because I'm 21 and my mom had to have her gallbladder taken out a few years ago, and i know that gallstones and gallbladder problems are common with Native Americans though I don't know the exact symptoms. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm pretty worried and would like to get some sleep seeing as it woke me up.

Upper Right Abdominal Pain.?

You are right in wondering if it is a gallstone since any gallbladder issue will typically (but not always) result in pain in the right shoulder.

There are many meds (see first link below) that can cause bad-gallbladder-like symptoms. Check to see if you are on any of these meds, and, if so, inform your doctor of your condition.

According to one of my favorite sites (wrongdiagnosis.com), abdominal pain plus back pain could be any of:
- Cholangitis
- Cholecystitis
- Cholelithiasis
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Gallstones
- Heart attack
- Liver abscess
(See the second link below for more info on all of these & to add other symptoms to the list.)

I've also heard of people eating (or drinking) well the night before, and waking up in the morning with heartburn pains that are mistaken for something more serious.

You may also have a urinary tract infection (UTI), which would also explain the pain in the left side as well... you'll need to get that checked soon since back pain with a UTI could mean that you have a kidney infection.

The simplest answer could simply be that you slept funny, and woke up with muscle aches and pains that you attributed to something worse.

If the pain doesn't go away, I'd go see a doctor!

Is it normal to feel back pain and lower/upper abdominal pain a week after surgical abortion?

BleedingSome women do not experience any bleeding. Others may have bleeding that lasts from 2–6 weeks.Bleeding may be spotty, dark brown, and include clots.Often there is no bleeding for the first few days immediately following the abortion, then hormonal changes may cause bleeding as heavy as a period around the third or fifth day and increased cramping. If heavy bleeding (soaking a full-sized maxi-pad in one hour) occurs, then begin deep uterine massaging for 10 minutes, take Ibuprofen, use a heating pad, and decrease activity. If heavy bleeding continues for more than three hours, call us (see calling instructions above).DischargeDischarge may be:Non-bloody and range from a brown to black color.Mucus-lYou shoYou should seek out medical care if you have any of the following abnormal side effects - .Soaking 2 or more maxi pads in an hour for 2 hours in a row.Blood clots larger than a lemonSevere pain or cramping that medication does not help.Chills and fever of 101° F or higher after the day of your procedure.Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea that lasts more than 24 hours.Fainting.Vaginal discharge that smells bad.Still feeling pregnant (fatigue, morning sickness, or breast tenderness) more than two weeks after your procedure.

32 weeks pregnant with upper abdominal pain and upper back pain...........?
I woke up early in the morning to strong abdominal and back pain last night. A few weeks ago I went to the doctor for this same thing and they told me it happened because I was dehydrated but when I remembered this I tried to drink more fliuds and see if the pain would stop. It eased down after a while but then came back again. THis pain was so painful that after I through up I felt a littel better and tried to take a hot shower but in the middel of the shower I had the pain again and was shaking and could hardly move and breathe. I was about to go to the hospital if it was for my fiance telling me to lay down and propped pillows up around me which made me feel better right awy. But he felt I had an upset stomach to food I ate earlier and that it didnt digest. but I dont know what that was but sure was glad it went away. Did anyone experience anything liek this?????

What can cause severe abdominal and back pain when standing? Can barely stand/walk. Sitting lessens it.

I would think your MD is going to look at a digestive problem that caused inflammation that spread to area muscles and caused those muscles to tighten causing your low back pain. I would think your MD will check the tightness of your psoas muscle. This is your main hip flexor and commonly gets tight when your digestive system is not happy. It is also shortened when you sit thus taking the pressure off of it. It may be one sided or both but generally the pain will be felt across your beltline of your low back if the psoas is involved (although other muscles may also come along for the ride). To stretch your psoas it is #23 here but also do #22>Only do those stretches if your MD says it is ok to do so.
