Upper Abdomnial Pain Need Your Opinions And Answers

Help! Unknown upper-right abdominal pain!?

There is a better test that could be done:
It is known as an ERCP. Stands for
Endoscopy Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography
They will use a scope (that has a camera, light, and can
insert tiny instruments through). They numb the throat
and ask you to swallow the end of the scope. They then
sedate you. They can move the scope through the
esophagus, stomach, and into the first part of the intestines
over to where the bile ducts come down from the liver to
the intestines. They can shoot dye up into them and
see if there is an obstruction (like a stone, growth), if
the ducts are narrowed, if they are malformed, and
how the pancreatic duct is or if there is an infection.
If they see a stone, they can remove it...they can expand
the ducts, making them wider and other things.

Very small stones are hard to see on any films taken.
Sometimes, it is good if the films are given to another
doctor to view...a second opinion.

Here is a link about this ERCP and also a pill endoscopy:

The liver makes bile. The bile flows through tube like structures
known as ducts to the gallbladder and then to the Common bile
duct to the intestines.
This bile helps to emulsify the fats we eat so they can be
digested and absorbed into the body.
The pancreas makes lipase, this lipase flow through the
pancreatic duct which connects to the Common bile duct,
just before it reaches the intestines. Lipase also helps
to break down fats further.
Therefore, if you are having a problem with fatty foods and it
is making you feel upset, nausea, etc...then this may be your
problem. The bile ducts are in someway obstructed.

I highly recommend that you do not take any medications that
hasn't been approved or prescribed by your doctor, now.
And if you are not with a gastroenterologist...that you need to
be referred to one.

Best wishes

It's me again and the constant pain is in the upper half of my belly. what could it be?

If the pain is on the right side, it could be your gall bladder. Go to a doc.

Cause of upper abdominal pain?

Your colon passes through the area where you are reporting pain, so constipation certainly can cause this kind of pain (as well as lower abdominal pain). It's very possible that constipation, or its close chronic cousin, irritable bowel syndrome which can be very painful, is what is causing your discomfort. Constipation and IBS are *the* most common causes of abdominal pain in my opinion.

A peptic ulcer is a possibility. It tends to be painful specifically when your stomach is relatively empty (such as, when you say, when you first get up in the morning). Check out the symptoms listed here:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/peptic-...
with other information available about ulcers by clicking through the other pages there to see if you think that fits your situation. Doctors will use a gastroscope or gastroduodenoscope or CT scan to look for an ulcer.

Other common conditions that can cause pain in this area such as gallbladder problems, hiatal hernia, or acid reflux are more likely to cause pain that increases after eating rather than first thing in the morning. Still they remain possibilities. Lots of things, unfortunately, can cause abdominal pain.

You may need to go back to the doctor and ask for a further workup. But keep in mind: there remains a good chance that your pain is due to nothing more than constipation.

Wishing you good luck, good health, and some relief soon.

What could this be, a sharp pain in my lateral lower abdomen near my hip?

During his stressful six weeks of 12-hour days and pulling all-nighters to finish a book translation, Adam started experiencing a sharp pain in his lower abdomen. As it got progressively worse, he feared he had appendicitis and rushed himself to the hospital. The doctor ushered him into the operating room in preparation for the surgery to remove his appendix. Before putting him under, he asked Adam how his abdomen felt.‘Actually, at this moment it feels fine.’Typically, appendicitis gets a lot worse over time. The doctor gives Adam a curious look and says, 'That's weird. Let's wait 10 more minutes and come back in.'He leaves then comes back, poking at Adam’s guts, 'How does this feel?'‘It's uncomfortable, but it wasn't as bad as it was before.’Then he says, 'Okay, you don't have appendicitis. This is something else!’ He cancels the operation. Partially relieved, Adam explained that the pain would come back every few hours, so they sat there trying to figure out what it could be.The doctor asks, 'Have you been in a lot of stress lately?'‘Yeah, I had 12-hour days, six weeks and I hardly left the apartment!’'When was the last time you took a dump?'Adam looked at him and thought, ‘I don't remember.’The doctor smiles, 'Okay. I know the problem.'They gave Adam some juice. ‘Take this. If you still have the problem tomorrow, come back and we'll investigate some more. But I'm pretty sure you're just plugged up. Just go home.'Adam got home a couple of hours later and described the next few glorious moments.“I got into the door and I had to take the biggest dump of my life. It was like the emoji poop - it was big.Everything came out in the end.So patent that one, that's mine.”

I have a persistent pain on the left side of my abdomen and lower back. I have consulted many doctors, but the cause is still unknown. What could it be? (See description)

Congrats on having no abnormalities found after such extensive exams (personally, if you were my patient, at 23 yo, I wouldn’t have done so many exams). Many people having an irritable bowel syndrome feel their sigmoid colon, located in the left lower part of your belly, cramping, this pain radiates to the back, groin and thigh. These are measures that you can try to alleviate your pain:-if constipated do something about it, e.g. by-taking lots of food fiber e.g. metamucil® 4 tablespoonfuls with lots of water a day which can be effective in non constipated people too-spasmolytics e.g. Duspatal® (mebeverine) -some people I treated did quite well often on super low dosed tricyclic antidepressant (imipramine, nortryptiline) starting at 10 mg at night, after 3 to 6 weeks if no success slowly more 25 mg (to a max of 150 mg/day). It only works after 3 to 6 weeks, so patience is needed. This we know from our chronic pain clinic experience.-some patient did very well on cognitive behavioral treatment.

Help with severe abdominal pain?

For the past six years I've had severe right upper quadrant abdominal pain...a surgeon removed my appendix five years ago and it didn't help. Besides the pain I've experienced diarreah, vomiting, nausea and severe gas. I've had three or four ultrasounds of my abdominal area and they all show up as normal. All blood tests show up as normal. My doctor thought it was my gallbladder but the latest scan came back normal. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be? I'm getting frustrated with getting no where.

What could cause constant abdominal pain and fatigue that get worse on period?

I thought id write a little extra detail here cause i really didnt include much. The first day i got the pain i was in a&e, the doctor thought i had appendicitis but my blood test were fine so eventually i just get sent home. Next 2 days i feel no pain but also i feel like something just isnt right. The next day i started getting sharp pains on my sides and a it felt liek someone was constantly apllying pressure between my ribs which seemed at the time to be associated with eating, and i started getting pains when i pee too. It wasnt burning it was pain around my hips.So i got to the doctor, i get a urine test, everything is fine. I mentioned it got worse when eating and drinking so i was given gaviscon. It did nothing. The pain started to change, it was basically just whenever it wanted to hurt.Every time i go shopping or something ill be extremely tired after, however this may actually be due to the fact im not getting enough sleep because i just cant stay asleep for some reasons. Then i started my period, which was a week early and obscurely light the pain for 2 days before and during my period was so much worse.I go back to the doctor but because i had mentioned another problem which was twitches I've had for 3 years for those the doctor got me blood tests to test for vitamin deficiency which i had extremely low vitamin D or something.I started getting pains as if i had been running in my ribs but i was sat down.Ive also been getting constipation. And now my mum wont make me another appointment for a month because shes expecting it to get better.

Pain was bad Thursday so my fiancé who had her gallbladder removed poker around on my side and where gallbladder located it was so painful I went to my knees and throwing up. Went to ER. Dr said thought was gallbladder. Ran blood work. Came back gallbladder disease. Went and got ultrasound today and dr found nothing. I'm in terrible pain around rib cage and shoulder blade. Dr order to get checked for stomach ulcer Monday. Then that not show anything a hytroscan(sp?). Dr prescribed me Omeprazole 20 MG, Promethazine 25 MG and Sucralfate 1 GM. Why would he prescribe ulcer meds and ulcer scope if says gallbladder disease on bloodwork and pain I'm having in gallbladder region. Help please. I feel miserable.
