Will a hospital tell me if someone is in it?
Hi, I'm a MD. When a person is admitted to the hospital they are given the option to be able to be contacted through the hospital operator or not. Most people, unless they are trying to avoid someone, allow people to contact them. However, no medical information may be given to friends, family, enemies, etc., without the approval of the patient.
There's a reception counter in almost all the government hospitals and a well maintained one in private hospitals.Just carry the basic details about the patient like name and father's name. Enquire with the receptionist and you'll get the information about where the patient is admitted.Easiest job.
After working in mental health hospitals and out patient clinics for the past thirty years, the ability to get information has changed greatly with HIPAA (Health Insutance Portability And Accountability Act) for patient confidentiality.I would advise the following and it usually seems to work, except under specific circumstances. When a patient is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, or any hospital for that matter, they are typically assigned a social worker or case manager. A phone call to the hospital inquiring with regard to an individual being a current patient there can be requested to be routed to the person’s assigned social worker. The social worker can field the call (or message) and notify the patient that you are inquiring about their whereabouts/well being and then the patient can provide consent (via verbal permission and/or signed release of information; typically both). After permission has been granted to speak to you, the social worker can contact you back and provide information.The typical front desk response for a phone call inquiring if a specific individual is on a hospital unit is “I cannot confirm or deny that person is a patient here” but you can ask to speak to a social worker who may be assigned to the case.If the person (patient) does not want to talk to you for any reason, or if they don’t want you to know they’re hospitalized, and don’t give permission, you’ll never be able to receive any confirmation they are hospitalized unless they change their mind. The person trying to find out if someone is hospitalized may know for a fact they are there- maybe they brought them in- but if the patient doesn’t provide permission fo the communication, the hospital cannot release information of any sort and if they do, they’ve violated HIPAA. Another situation that could complicate the matter is if the hospitalized person is confused, psychotic, delusional, etc. In these circumstances the individual’s judgement may be impaired to the point of not realizing the purpose of the communication, or being unable to provide consent for the communication due to highly acute symptoms. In my experience with this type of situation, when the patients confusion/psychosis begins to improve, they usually consent to the communication and release of information.
Will a hospital tell me if someone i know is a patient at their hospital?
You can normally enter any hospital and ask at the desk which ward 'Mrs Smith' is on and they will tell you where to find them. The switchboard will also give you the information if you want to visit but that is all you will get in terms of details.
How do I check and see if someone is in the hospital?
You would need to contact the police. Because of patient confidentiality issues, a hospital will not (should not) either confirm or deny a person's presence in the facility. However, the police should be able to obtain that information. If someone you know is missing, contact the police to report that person missing and to file a missing persons report. Be advised, however, that if a person is over the age of legal consent, there is usually a 24-72 hour waiting period before a report can be filed. You can also contact friends and family of this person but also know that they are under NO obligation to furnish you with any information. EMT
How can I find out if someone was admitted to a hospital?
If this is a relative of yours & you are concerned that they are missing or not answering there phone call your local police & have them tell you what to do or they might be able to investigate this for you. If you are not relatied I think you will have to find a relative or if they feel close enough to you, they may have left a message to let you though if you called so don't give up but don't get discouraged if you run into obstacles they are needed to protect a person privacy & there are strick laws hospital workers have to follow.

I found in searching for my daughter, due to tv news story, I could call Hospital and ask for Admissions. As I didn't know what hospitals were in the area she was, I called Fire Dept. They were exceptionally helpful and very kind. They could not tell me who, by name, was admitted BUT I could give them her name, and they checked if she was one of those admitted. Sure hope this helps. I sure understand helpless feeling when looking for someone who may be injured,etc, badly.
It depends on your venue and the number of facilities. If it was an accident, the nearest facility (preferably a Level I or II trauma center) is a good starting point. Remember, they will be I the "ER" (Emergency Room) and have not been formally admitted. If there is another reason and there is time for the patient to be admitted, start with the closest facility and work outwards.Because of patient confidentiality issues, it might be difficult to get information -- especially if they are someone notable. If you want to backdoor the system during normal business hours, ask for the gift shop and ask them to check their list to see if he patient can receive as plant.Unfortunately, there is no central admissions registry in most venues.

Now, why would you think that? Did make a contractual agreement with the hospital or any other entity to cover your brother’s bills?
