Urgent How To Clear A Stuffy Nose Fast

Why does my nose get unclogged when I stand up?

Sounds like you do have allergies. My nose does the same exact thing. I go to stand up and it unclogs. But whenever I lay down either both sides are clogged or one side is and the other side isn't. It's because when you stand up your nose is up and straight where the stuff can run down the back of your throat or out your nose. Sitting and laying down clogs it. Try a neti pot or if you prefer to sit tilt your head forward. Take care.

What are some tricks to get treated faster at the emergency room?

No “tricks.” We take patients according to acuity. Not according to how bad they say their pain is, or how many times they’ve vomited, or whether or not they’re crying, but how how time sensitive their problem is.A sudden onset of difficulty breathing is more time sensitive than a rash that’s been going on for three days. A fractured pelvis is more time sensitive than a fractured ankle. A vomiting patient who happens to be a brittle diabetic is more time sensitive than a vomiting patient who has no other medical history. We do try to get patients in severe pain back as soon as possible, but sometimes we can’t. Even if we have an empty bed, we can’t put someone in it unless we also have a nurse available to monitor that patient.Keep in mind, too, that sometimes we anticipate a bed being ready for a patient…and then we get two or three ambulance calls, necessitating further delay. I often get family members coming up and asking, “How much longer is it going to be?” I don’t know! In an ER, things can change very quickly (including the staff), so what the unit census looked like ten minutes ago might not have much to do with what it looks like now.If your presenting complaint isn’t a major emergency, you will probably have to wait a while. Sometimes you might get lucky, if a provider who’s getting ready to go off duty calls me and says, “Why don’t you send back one or two quick-in-and-out patients (urinary tract infection, conjunctivitis, uncomplicated sore throat, stuffy nose, etc.) and I’ll see them before I leave?”Otherwise, if you’re more concerned about convenience than safety, I’d suggest going to a convenient care facility, or to your doctor’s office.

How can I clear my cat's nose?

If your cat has a nasal discharge, it may have an upper respiratory infection, allergies, or other conditions, all of which will benefit from a  visit to the vet. Until that time, you can help by gently using a moist soft tissue or cloth to clean the discharge from the nostrils. If your cat has a lot of congestion, placing him in a comfortable humidified atmosphere for a short time can help (for example, a bathroom after a hot shower has been running). A vaporizer can help as well. If your cat isn't eating, it becomes much more urgent to visit the vet ASAP. Cats who don't eat can become very ill quite quickly. As mentioned by Catherine Spencer, black pepper is a terrible idea. It's a terrible idea for lots of reasons, including the fact that it won't cure the cat's congestion.

I’ve had a cough for 2 weeks and I have a stuffy nose. How do I make this go away? (No medicine helps me)

A common head cold typically goes away on its own in 10 to 14 days.Since you have had a stuffy nose and cough for 14 days, and I’m assuming you are not improving, there are a couple of possibilities:Allergies - allergies can cause nasal congestion and the resulting fluids can also drain down the throat, causing a chronic cough. You may be developing bronchitis. While the common cold is also known as a “head cold” because the symptoms are upper respiratory (stuffy nose, headache, sore throat, ear fullness), bronchitis is a lower respiratory infection involving the lungs. If you feel some congestion or gunk in your chest, you likely have bronchitis. Bronchitis is also caused by a virus, like the common cold, but the danger is bronchitis can progress to pneumonia. If you have had these symptoms for 2 weeks without any improvement, then you should be checked out by a healthcare provider. You should be able to easily see one at an Urgent Care facility or in the USA, you can find an FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) which will see anyone, regardless of insurance status and they also have sliding scale payment for low income people who don’t have health insurance.Find a Health CenterIn the meantime, for symptom relief:Nasal congestion:Antihistamine like Claritin (loratadine), Allegra, Xyzal, etc.Oral decongestent like Sudafed (note: these can increase heart rate, so use with caution if you have hypertension or a heart condition, etc)Nasal irrigation with a neti pot or similar deviceSore throat:Warm salt water garglesCepacol or Chloraseptic numb the throatIce chips, ice cream may also soothe and numb the throatTylenol or an NSAID like ibuprofen or naproxen (Aleve)Cough:Try Robitussin to control cough if you have a dry cough. If you are coughing up mucus, you don’t want to stop coughing completely. You can use something like Mucinex DM which has a cough suppressant and guaifensin (loosens up mucus to make it easier to cough up), so you can cough up mucus without coughing your head off.AND MOST IMPORTANT:REST and lots of fluids, especially warm beverages like herbal teas and soups. Honestly, the best thing you can do is REST as in force yourself to sleep as much as possible for 2–3 days. Give your body a chance to heal itself.Note: This is not meant to be medical advice. It is best to always check with your healthcare provider before taking any medications.

What's the best way to deal with a bloody nose?

Calmly Lean forward and pinch your nose with your finger and thumb for 10 to 20 minutes (its always longer for me, and I find it better to be safe than sorry) applying steady pressure for the duration of time.  then when the bleeding has stopped, you should carefully apply a very small amount of vaseline just inside your nostrils.  to prevent these in the future you should; not pick your nose and invest in a saline nose spray (sold in most stores).ps: you should never lean your head back, as the blood will run down the back of your throat and into your stomach... irritating the lining of your stomach and that could cause potential vomiting (nothing worse than a bloody vomit imo)

Neurologists: What can this clear drip be that is coming from one nostril?

It could be CSF. If it tests positive for sugar, this possibility is increased, as normal nasal secretions don't contain sugar (CSF glucose).A trip to an ER or Urgent Care Center is warranted.

If I blow my nose after using nasal decongestant, is the medication gone too?

When using nasal decongestant, it's better that you let the medication stay in the nose for about 2 or 3 minutes before blowing your nose, otherwise you'll be blowing out part of the medication if you blow your nose immediately after you use the nose drops.
Afrin doesn't cause drowsiness or runny noses. However prolong use will cause the membrane inside the nose to swell. That's the reason why after using nasal decongestant longer than what is described on the box, you'll still have blocked nose. It's better to go to the doc for presription medication to totally get rid of the blocked/runny nose.

I think my dog has something stuck in her nose. What can I do?

You can put her in the bathroom when you take a warm shower. If you have a vaporizer, you can use that as well. This will help soften mucus, hopefully, making it easier to expel whatever is inside. Just make sure you don't leave your dog in there alone for a prolonged period...you don't want her to overheat. Five or ten minutes should be helpful enough...just a quick shower will do. If the symptoms don't subside, however, it can be anything from a foreign object lodged in your dog's nose to a small tumor, so a veterinary checkup is recommended, as it's the best option for getting an accurate diagnosis and treatment.Best of luck!-Connie M.Non Shedding Dogs Blog
