Is hotel management a good course?

I had the same question when I joined IHMCT Trivandrum, the doubt was persistent throughout my college life.. During first year all I thought of was getting a well paid job after I graduate. By the time I finished my first semester did I realize that hotel industry doesn't pay its employees well in its initial years.Second semester was all about reassurances to myself that I hadn't made a mistake and becoming a chef was the dream. Little did I know that this dream will change drastically in just 17 weeks. We underwent internship in our 3rd semester, and my dream of over 5 years shifted tracks, the struggle was intense in the kitchen. I got my reality check that the chef life isn't really that glamorous.. but I found refuge at the bar, my new found love ‘liquor’(if you stare at a wine rack well enough you'll get hooked!).4th semester all I cared was to learn more and more about alcohol. And I'd say that I was pretty good at it.Time is a bitch when you're in college, 3rd year started and so did the interview sessions.. companies after companies. I got through with a lot of them, offer letters were lining up. They'd ask what I was comfortable with, I'd say liquor.. Boom! All the jobs paid you more or less the same and it wasn't good enough, I was still dicey about the hotel thing. This is when Bestseller came to our college, a retail giant from Denmark. I knew I wanted this and boy did I get it!I worked with Bestseller for 2 years. I was promoted thrice, the perks and incentives were good. My experience got me a seat in MBA. I'll be starting next month. (Wish me luck)Hotel Management is not everybody's muse. Not everyone is paid good initially. But I can assure you that it makes you a better person. You'll learn life skills there. I still cook, and mind you I cook well. My first management lesson was from a hospitality institute and I'm sure its gonna take me a long way.https://www.linkedin.com/company...

I got a job offer from (Mandarin hotel oriental canada) housekeeping supervisor is this scam or not?

100% SCAM
1 - Housekeeping is NOT a highly skilled occupation requiring a Masters or PhD and there is NO way you would get a visa for a housekeeping position. This is not a position that no Canadian could fill
2 - ALL emails from Mandarin Oriental hotels are from @mandarinoriental.com and I can guarantee the scammers contacting you are NOT using an @mandarinoriental.com address
3 - NO housekeeper is EVER hired over the internet. Not only do you have at least 2 interviews at the hotel, but before being offered the job you are also fingerprinted and the hotel does a full police background check. That's because housekeepers have access to guest rooms so they need to verify with the police in every country where you have lived in the past 10 years that you have not been convicted of any crimes
4 - that is NOT the phone number of the Mandarin Oriental hotel
5 - That is NOT the salary of a technician or housekeeper. The salary they quote is higher than the General Manager of the hotel would make
6 - NO hotel can process your documents for you. A hotel can only apply for an LMO but YOU have to apply for a visa through the Canadian Embassy in your country
7 - NO hotel would ever ask you to scan and email your passport or birth certificate as documents can be altered. You give your original passport to HR when you go for your first interview at the hotel
8 - This scam is so common that Mandarin Oriental even has a whole page on their website warning people about scammers using their name http://www.mandarinoriental.com/careers/...
9 - the most obvious way to know this is a scam -- Mandarin Oriental has NO hotels in Canada. Check their website http://www.mandarinoriental.com/hotels-m... -- this could have been confirmed in 2 seconds

Which field is better: engineering or hotel management?

It upon you in which course or career you choose, do what you love to do and in which your interest is. Do not go on the other people opinion about choosing your career. I am a hospitality (Hotel management) student and all i can do is to make you aware of this degree. I am 21 and in the last (which is 6th) semester of my B.H.M degree. At first, i did not knew much about this course when i joined this industry, but after i started indulging into it i was much aware of the surrounding of it. Hotel management is consists of 4 main departments Food production (culinary), food and beverage, housekeeping and front office and offcourse other supporting departments like finance, sales, HR and so on. But the earlier ones are top 4. You have to struggle a lot while doing your hotel management and even more if you want to earn a better salary. But still, it is a great course which not just teaches you about the involving departments but transforms you into a better person. Try to give it a thought while selecting your future aims. and also do some research about engineering which i have not mentioned. Try to find out your interest and passion and than follow it.Good luck. ☺
