How do you play .avi files on VLC player?

Download and install VLC Media Player (see the Resource section below). Agree to the terms of use, and open the program. Click on the "Media" menu, and select "Open File." Locate your AVI file in the finder window, and open the file in VLC. Click on the "Media" menu, and then select "Convert/Save" to bring up the input file window and begin the transcoding process. Find the file in the "My Computer" side screen if your file is not already selected, and highlight it. Click on "Convert/Save." Click on the box next to "File" in the upper-left corner of the "Stream Output" window. Rename your output file to keep both your old AVI file and new VLC video file. Select an "Encapsulation" method (e.g., MPEG). Click on the arrow next to the "Custom" button on the right side of the screen to bring up more options. Click on "Save." At times the AVI files may fail to play on the VLC media player you have excitedly downloaded. How do I solve the problem of HD Videos getting freezed on VLC player while sound plays fine?

Hi :-)May be your problem is “when high definition videos of large sizes are opened in VLC Media Player—the HD video doesn’t play perfectly at all times. The HD video freezes and skips a few frames while the audio plays perfectly.” This is a common problem and it can be solved easily. Fortunately, there are a number of ways that you can try to fix the video lag.I am writing here 3 methods to solve this issue:-Method (1).If you have to play movie files that take up large GBs of space there are a couple of things we can do. The basic idea is to increase the number of seconds videos are cached. How to increase seconds video cache:Here’s how to increase file cachingOpen Tools > Preferences [CTRL + P].In Show settings select the AllIn Advanced settings, click on the parent option that says Input / Codecs. In Input / Codecs scroll down to the options under the heading Advanced.Change the values for File caching (ms) from 300 to a higher value like 1000 or 2000. The value is in milliseconds.Method (2).Change Video Output SettingsIn the menu bar, click on Tools > Preferences [CTRL + P].From the options present, click on Video. In Video Settings, under Output change the value from Automatic to DirectX (DirecDraw) video output. Try OpenGL video output as well.Click Save.Method (3).FFmpeg Loop Filter SkippingOpen up Tools > Preferences [CTRL + P].Under Show settings click the radio button that says All to switch from Simple to Advanced Preferences.Navigate to Input / Codecs > Video Codecs > FFmpeg.Under FFmpeg audio/video decoder find the option that says Skip the loop filter for H.264 decoding.Change it from None to All.Additional and Optional StepIn the same FFmpeg audio/video decoder settings, find Hardware decoding and ensure the value is Disable.Click Save at the end.I hope it will help you.

How do I play MKV files in VLC?

Generally, MKV playes MKV files. But some issues still exist when playing MKV in VLC. Based on our multiple testing and some guys feedback in VLC forum, we’ve figure out 4 possible solutions to VLC MKV playback issues.Solution 1: Change ParametersIf the MKV file that is skipping is playing from a local hard drive, choose the “All” settings at the bottom of the dialog to show all of the options, then navigate to Input / Codecs -> Access modules -> File. The caching value here is set in milliseconds, so setting the value to 1000 will buffer for 1 second (the default is 600, or 0.6 seconds). The problem with setting this option too large is that if you want to manually skip to a new point in the file, there will be a larger lag while the content is buffered again.Solution 2: Disable hardware decodingSome users resolve choppy VLC Playback on mkv files by disabling hardware decoding. Normally you would want hardware acceleration of the decoding process, but in some cases, it can conflict with your drivers, and it is worth a try.Solution 3: Find VLC player alternativeMedia Player Classic is a compact media player which serves as an alternative to VLC player for Microsoft Windows. For Mac users, you can try MXplayer.Solution 4: Convert MKV to VLC most friendly formatSince MKV can’t be supported well by VLC media player, an ultimate solution is to convert MKV to VLC most friendly format. Brorsoft Video Converter is the utility for you. With it, you can fast convert MKV to AVI that can be easily played in VLC. Besides, this video convert app can allow you to convert any other popular video and audio format like XAVC(S), MP4, MOV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MTS, MXF, 3GP, VOB, AC3, MP3… with ultra-fast speed and zero quality loss. Can you help me with a computer problem?

Just recently, like 4 days ago, my computer just randomly locks up. The day before yesterday, I was watching a video in Windows Media Player. I went into fullscreen mode, and everything locked up. CTRL+ALT+DEL did nothing, right click did nothing, had to restart. Start Windows normally at boot, no problems after that. Today, I was coming out of a screensaver and no programs would open. Firefox, Avast, Malwarebytes, no programs would open. Restart computer with the button on the tower, Start Windows normally at boot, no problems since then.

Has anyone had anything like this happen to them? I run Avast free and Malwarebytes premium.

System specs:

Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64
AMD FX-8300
16gb RAM
Nvidia GTX 970 4gb
On-board LAN

In the program Core Temp, CPU #0 reads a steady 64°, but I noticed that it did jump to 74° and then to 81°, within roughly 2 or 3 seconds, but then it went right back down to 64°.

I haven't updated my GPU in a while, and I'm pretty well up to date with Windows updates.

Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, thanks.

VERY blocky, grainy, pixelated video in VLC player (Windows 7). Help!?

I reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC, recently,
due to various reasons unrelated to the problem.

I have installed the latest:
Nvidia drivers
VLC Player
K-Lite Codec Pack

I get EXTREMELY grainy and unclear picture, even the subtitles aren't legible.

Here's a screenshot:
http://i53.tinypic.com/dgl9ck.jpg

Weirdly enough, I don't have this problem in Windows Media Player 11,
but I'd rather use VLC.
I didn't have this problem before I reinstalled windows.

Any help would be appreciated.
