What type of oil should I use for my Honda CRV?

Equipment manufacturers are starting to require higher quality oils in your vehicles in order to improve fuel economy, protect newer fuel efficient engines that run hotter, and to ultimately provide protection that will help increase the life of your engine. Some of your vehicles don't require "synthetic," so quality conventional oils will do the job in protecting your engine at the manufacturers prescribed interval. But, just because your vehicles don't require "synthetics," it doesn't mean you will not receive the same fuel economy benefits and increased engine longevity by using the better products. The companies always recommend, at the very least, you check with your certified Honda dealer for any of your service questions or dirctly refer to the manual..2013 Honda CR-V is available in two-different engine options; 2.0-liter SOHC i-VTEC engine and 2.4-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine. Recommended engine oil for the Honda CR-V is 0W-20 synthetic grade oil, however I recommend you to stick with mineral engine oil for the initial 10,000kms.But you can use any name-brand 5W20, mineral or synthetic, and change it and the filter when you should. The CR-V has a well-engineered engine that is not highly stressed and probably won't benefit from the use of synthetic oil..For information about the newer models you can check Feedbayk App. Its an android app for getting feedback about a Car from your friends & other verified users through a chat. There are verified owners of Honda CRV and many other Cars like: VW Polo, Skoda Rapid, Maruti Suzuki SX4, Hyundai Elite i20 etc.I am thankful to a Quoran for advising me about the same.Hope this helps you too:)Thanks to James C. Maxwell for the suggestion. Edits are always appreciated.

2000 honda crv transmission problem?

The P0740 code is set when the transmission torque converter clutch is not engaged when it should be. Basically, the torque converter clutch is a mechanical coupling inside the torque converter that reduces transmission slippage when the vehicle is going over approximately 40 mph.

the way the converter clutch is applied is through fluid pressure inside the transmission. when a torque converter clutch fails to apply there is a problem with the pressure circuit inside the transmission. That problem can either be that 1) the solenoid that controls the fluid flow through the passage isn't working or 2) the fluid passage is blocked so that no fluid flows through it or 3) the transmission is low on fluid so that there isn't enough hydraulic pressure to operate the converter clutch control.

I assume that the level and quality of the transmission fluid has already been checked. The first question is "when was the last time the fluid was changed?". there is a good chance that the passage for the fluid is restricted by an accumulation of debris due to 121,000 miles of wear on the internal transmission parts. I would strongly suggest that you start by having the transmission flushed. Honda doesn't recommend that the transmissions be flushed but if you have a problem with blockage or restriced fluid flow then that's the only way that I know of to clear it.

if you still have the problem after a flush, then have a pressure test done on the transmission. That will tell a technician if there are any internal problems.

as for the P0740 code, that should cause the check engine light to come on. if that warning light has not come on then the code could be an intermittant one.

As a rule, the CRV transmissions are extremely reliable and internal failures are uncommon. That doesn't mean they don't occur, but the odds are in your favor that its not something major.

hope that helps

Honda cr-v or honda pilot?

Hi i am making a decision between two cars I like- either the honda pilot or the honda cr-v probably around 2000-2004 years. How much are you paying for your gas with honda pilot at this point and how much is gas in your state. I am in CT currently 4.35. I like the honda pilot but I am scared to get but I am thinking it would be a good investment because me and my man plan to start a family within next 2/3 years. Any feedback, would be appreciated.

How can I get my Honda CRV to start in the cold?

I have a honda CRV, that will NOT start when it has sat outside & the weather is cold. Sometimes when it is not too cold out (in the 40's) after some work the car will turn over but does this chug, chug, chug thing for up to a minute and then in a split second it's like the gas gets where it's supposed to and it revs and drives away as usual. When it's left outside below 30 degrees it will not start. When it is left in the garage it will start right up. The only thing tht has been done is the fuel filter has been changed. I'm at my second repair shop, now at the dealer. They can not find out what is wrong. They have said that the catalytic converter, MAP sensor?? and valves definitely need to be replaced, but even after relacing them they said it still might not work. Are catalytic converters that are going out temperature dependent? This non-starting in cold weather and ability to start right up in the garage has been repeated over and over by myself and repair shops.

2000 Honda CRV Timing Belt Replacement?

1.) Where can I get the needed replacement parts for cheaper than a dealership or mechanic shop that might overcharge me?
Most independent mechanics are not going to overcharge you for the part. They make their money on the labor and typically charge between $60-$80 an hour. If you are worried about it, look at your local auto parts store and ask how much they cost for your vehicle. Then you are prepared to have the discussion with the mechanic.

2.) Should I get the water pump replaced with the timing belt
Definitely yes.

3.) How much SHOULD this type of work cost and are there any possible ways to reduce the cost?
To replace the Water Pump and the Timing belt should cost about $600-$700 at an independent mechanic.
A dealer would charge you about $1400-1700.

When you get a quote, ask the person doing the work to break it out for you.
Take the # of hours it takes to do the job times the labor rate, add in the parts and taxes and you have your total.

Don't be afraid to shop around if something does not seem right.

Compare Honda CRV and Subaru Forester?

If AWD is not important then I would go with the CR-V. It has a pretty fake AWD system that is actually FWD all the time until it detects slip so you get better mileage. So if you are going to just drive around the city, I would get the one with better mileage. If you plan on driving in any snow though, the Toyota system will do very little to help in a slippery situation. Once the front tires start to slip, it only sends about 20% torque to the rear and that's too little too late. The Forester is AWD all the time. In fact the automatics have just about the best AWD system on the market and they also have lead their class in safety for just about every year they have been made. I guess it kind of depends on where you live and how much you will need the car for wintry situations.

Is a Honda CR-V a good car?

Depends on what you consider good. My wife has a CR-V and we have taken it to Cali and back to New England.
-- Very reliable car, without many repairs.
-- Decent gas mileage, 25 mpg, on 89 octane.
-- The exterior style is good for the 1997-2001 models, and looks better on the 2002-2005 models.
-- The 1997-1998 lack power, but I think that they improved power for 1999-2001.
-- LOTS of Cargo room!

If you're into the 2002-2005 CR-V, you might want to consider the 2000+ RAV4. It has similar space, and reliability ratings, but is not ugly like the older RAV4.

Honda CRV 2000 broken timing belt and spark plug?

Hello,
My dad has a 2000 Honda CRV, his timing belt broke but it looks like it didn't cause major damage to the engine. He had a guy look at it and he replaced it, the car ran fine for a week but there were some weird noises. Two days ago he was driving out of his place and the car stopped, the screw on the pulley was loose (pulley bolt) So today the guy put in a new one and now the car wont start. They think it's because the engine is not getting enough fuel, it looks like the spark plug is broken or there's something wrong with it because it's not making a connection.
Are there any ideas as to what may be causing this?
If the issue is not resolved by replacing the spark plug what else could he try?
How much do you think the car can be sold for parts? He lives in Texas.

What should the tire pressure be in a 2000 Honda CRV?

the max on the tires is NOT the value to use.

It is either in the FuelCap cover (a little white sticker)
or us find the details in ur car manual.
26psi sounds ok, and you can add about 3-4psi but not too much, it will lenghten the stop and weaken the grip of the tires.

they may look a bit like flat, compare it to other cars, their tires are also a bit flat due to their own weight.
