Verry Ill And Stool Problems

Is there some health problem if your stools are dark black in color?

If you have a diet high in iron it can make your stools dark. This can be a good indicator Leafy green vegetables like broccoli will also make the stools very dark.. If the black is accompanied with abdominal pain, coffee ground emesis, or bright red blood either rectally or in your emesis, it could be a sign of a bleeding ulcer, which can be a serious condition. If there is blood in your stool, even the old black kind, you will be able to smell it. It's a strong smell, almost offensive.

Can bad fish cause stomach and bowel problems?

how long would it take for someone to become ill after ingesting rotten or fish that is past its shelf life? I consumed some cat fish, which had been marked down at the supermarket and unfortunately approximately 24 hours later experienced issues with excessive bowel movements and vicious abdominal pain. Thank you for your assistance.

Black spots in stools?

I've had a lot of intestinal problems for a very long time. I even had a colonoscopy and it showed everything was normal. I sometimes am not even able to eat because I get so nauseated and ill after eating and the pain in my intestines is intense. I was diagnosed with IBS, yet I have never been tested for ulcers. Lately my stomach has been burning so badly that my doctor gave me acid blockers (to take only temporarily).

To my question: I often get black speckles all in my stools. They look like coffee grinds (yet all the info says it's an ulcer symptom if you vomit coffee grinds, does this not apply for it in the stools?)

Lately, I've been getting large black spots in my stools. Now is this what the doctors mean when they ask if there's blood in the stools? I can never get a clear answer.

Could I be really ill? (red chunks in stool)?

Doctor. Now.

How much stool softeners to take to have diarrhea?

Here's the problem with taking any stool softener once you already have stool in the bowel, it won't turn softer because its already engaged in your lower colon. Whatever is above that will become looser but this can cause serious problems if you have an already impacted bowel situation brewing. If you cannot get this out soon consider going to your dr or to an er or urgent care facility. You can become very ill from an impaction. An alternative (sorry for the TMI here but it is do-able) is to put on some vinyl gloves and attempt to manually remove the stuck material (if its moved down into your rectum already)...this is what they do in the hospital anyway. Personally, I wouldn't attempt this on my own. The safest thing is to let a medical professional help you.

Sick puppy, green stool with blood?

I have a 10 wk old lab mix puppy who we've had for about a week. He has had runny stool since we got him and his breeder suggested to give him pumpkin in his food to take care of it. That hasnt worked, but other then the runny stool he has been healthy so we havent worried about it. Now his poop is green with possibly blood and red specks in it. He has a very healthy appitete...possibly more, he eats a LOT and now his stomache is very bloated. We have an older dog, about 6 months whos poop turned runny and bloody the same night. They are outside during the day when we are not home so I dont know if they have gotten into something that has caused the problem. They are still both very active and there are no other symptoms. We are plannign to take them both to the vet tomorrow but I am a very worried mommy and want to know what is causing the problem and if there is anything we could do now to help them. Also, the older dog has never had runny poop and now seems to be having a hard time going-very little is coming out. Please any advice will help

What may be the cause of blood in urine and stool? I have been sick with a cough, cold, and fever for 2 weeks.

Passing blood in the urine and stools warrants assessment. Usual cause for this problem is an abnormal communication between urinary bladder and rectum/colon or simultaneous but separate pathologies in urinary bladder and rectum. The abnormal communication between bladder and rectum is called recto-vesical or colovesical fistula. The causes include diverticulitis of colon, cancer of rectum, cancer of bladder and rarely trauma mostly iatrogenic i.e. caused by operation. If there is communication between rectum/colon and bladder you may also pass wind or bits of faecal matter in the urine! In any case you should seek expert opinion. Best of luck.
