Vomiting Bright Red Blood

Bright red blood in vomit?

sweeti, mostly you have upper gastrointistinal bleeding and the most common cause is stomach ulcer which is a wound in the stomach lining mucosa, and it bleeds. when you threw up, you stretch your stomach and the wound inside causing more pain, and part of this pain caused by acid reflux that goes to the esophagus and burns it.. the most common cause of ulcer is infection that is caused by H. pylori bacteria. go to the doctor, he/she will prescribe 3 medications including: antibiotic to kill the bacteria, bismuth which acts like a gel and help the ulcer to heal and anti acid medication to decrease the acid and help the stomach to heal itself and decrease the acid that reflux and burn the esophagus.. your treatment will take several weeks. its simple thing, dont worry.

Vomiting bright red blood.?

I drank a small bottle of Jager and ate a bunch of cheeseburgers about 6 hours ago drank a large glass of water before going to sleep. Woke up and about 20 minutes after waking up threw up. At first it was just the mix of burgers and Jager. Then it was bright red streaked. Volume was maybe a shot glass worth of blood. Should I go to the hospital. I do not have insurance. I am not in a lot of pain. Just the normal discomfort that follows vomiting. And if I spit there is a little streak of red.

Why am I throwing up blood in my vomit?

Causes for vomiting of blood(hematemesis) can be:Mallory-Weiss syndrome: bleeding tears in the esophagal mucosa, usually caused by prolonged and vigorous retching.Irritation or erosion of the lining of the esophagus or stomachVomiting of ingested blood after hemorrhage in the oral cavity, nose or throatVascular malfunctions of the gastrointestinal tract, such as bleeding gastric varices or intestinal varicesTumors of the stomach or esophagus.Radiation poisoningViral hemorrhagic feversGastroenteritisGastritisPeptic ulcerChronic viral hepatitisIntestinal Schistosomiasis (caused by the parasite schistosoma mansoni )History of SmokingIatrogenic Injury (invasive procedure such as endoscopy or transesophageal echocardiography)Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (severe peptic ulcer)Atrio-oesophageal fistulaYellow fever

Should I worry about pink vomit? Is it blood?

if it is pink, and you have not eaten anything pink (including enteric coated ibuprofen and some multi-vits with iron) - then it may be blood - don't be too alarmed though. The further down the gut / GI tract any bleeding point is, the darker the blood is. Bright red blood?? be very concerned.. Dark old blood that looks like old coffee grounds?? be very concerned. Pink blood?? probably a little bit of minor trauma in the upper oesophagus / oro-pharynx caused by retching or vomiting itself. See a physician to be sure and help put your mind at rest.

We feel better after throwing up because your stomach has not been able to tolerate whatever it was you put in there (sheer volume, irritant substances, gastric irritation from drugs / alcohol, or bad food, bad bacteria) - when you have a gut full of nasty, this stimulates your autonomic nervous system which causes you to salivate, perspire and increases your heart rate and blood pressure etc - take away the cause of this and you feel better!

(the triggering of the autonomic nervous system is a primevil response to fight and flight - ie - easier to fight or flee from an enemy if your gut is empty as blood can then be diverted from the gut to your muscles - just a bit of trivia for you there!)

I vomited blood after taking ibuprofen for a hangover, and now my stomach still hurts. What do I do?

Your stomach may be hurting because of the violence of vomiting. If it is the muscles in your stomach region that hurts. Apply a warm compress to relax them.

The alcohol is hard on your stomach lining and it sounds like you really overdid it Friday night. When you got up the next morning all you could think about was how badly your head hurt and downed the Ibuprofen. Probably with really cold water? On top of being abused the night before, Ibuprofen on an empty stomach could cause it to react violently. (As it did!)

Without knowing if the blood was from your stomach lining or your esophagus, it is impossible to know if you have something serious going on. If this is the first episode of bleeding, and you stay off the sauce and caustic meds and EAT properly, you might be OK. It might be a good idea to go see your doctor ASAP if you are concerned. But go IMMEDIATELY if you vomit blood again, for any reason.

In the meantime, avoid coffee or black tea, caffeinated sodas, and chocolate, eat soft foods like yogurt, scrambled eggs, and chicken noodle soup, and drink room temperature water. More than the recommended eight glasses a day. Avoid heavy, greasy, spicy foods for at least another day or two, and sleep as much as possible.

And if you smoke or chew, cut back as much as you can. The small amounts of nicotine in your mouth does get swallowed and aggravates your stomach too.

IF you have a bleeding stomach ulcer, you will notice your stools will be significantly darker (occult blood) probably starting today. They will not have bright red unless you have a rectal tissue tear. In either case, go see your doctor now.
