Is it possible to become immortal?
Yes. As we are right now, our "consciousness", our sense of self, is of a physical body, with a cellular structure. With difficult psychological work on oneself, one may be able to create a second body, called a "soul" by various religions, that can live much, much longer than the physical body. We are not given a soul when we are born, it must be created BY THE PERSON who is to have one. The soul has a molecular nature, rather than cellular. It can go anywhere air can go, including, obviously, inside other bodies, since all animal life forms breathe. Thus, we could live other peoples lives by entering into their physical body. With continued work on oneself, one might eventually develop a body with an electronic structure to it, called a "spirit" by various religions. An electronic body is essentially a body of light. Since light actually IS indestructable, omnipresent and eternal, so would a persons spirit. Of course, this means ones sense of self is a part of that body. [A cellular body is basically a body of water. A soul is basically a body of air ("I come like water and like the wind I go" Omar Khayyam). They have different venues. A body of light can leave the galaxy. We can know, to a certain extent, what type of work we need to do to grow a soul. But the creation of a spirit is much more subtle and little is known. The ideas are so outside of our experience that they appear magical or religious to ordinary thinking.
I want to be immortal. Is it possible in our life time?
Friendsyes,you can become immortal but not you,as at this moment,you mean by you.Let's talk about.1.Human life is 100 years as designed by cosmic intelligence aimed at specific objective to fit in giagentic architecture of cosmos.2.This is applied to outer most sheath-physical body of the total existence of a man.(same way it is applied to physical bodies of animals and even plants also)3.Thus if you believe that you means your physical body,you can't become immortal.4.Your second sheath is your psychic body(mental body)and it has it's own life span just like physical body.However life of psychic body is inconceivable by humans.Thus if you believe that you are your psychic body(intelligence etc.),you can't become immortal.5.your innermost core is conscious energy,which is original stuff ,absolute source for all energies,thus,at it's root you means conscious energy.It has neither origin nor any end.It is omnipresent.In fact you means this conscious energy,but as you believe that you means your physical body,you know well that it is mortal and hence you want to make it immortal,if you comeout of your wrong beleif by right knowledge,than rightnow,here and now,you are what really you are-conscious energy.you have become immortal. What is that right knowledge ?It is to be that which is ONLY.ThanksQ guru
Would immortality be the downfall of theism?
If we human beings found a way to make ourselves immortal.. (Transhumanism, anti-aging treatments, reaching longevity escape velocity..) Would there still be a need for people to believe in god(s)? No matter if you believe in the possibility or not, just imagine it as a thought scenario. If we ever reached this stage, what would be the point of religion? What would be the point of blind faith? I personally think many theists believe in god(s) because they are clinging to the hope of there being something more after death. So I want to ask you theists two questions: 1. Would you still believe in god(s) if you no longer had to die? 2. If you had the opportunity, would you want to live forever, or at least for as long as you desired? Or would you rather die after having lived a normal human life? Are you *that* convinced of there being an afterlife in heaven that you would refuse to accept anti-aging treatments if we had them? Or exactly what would your choice be in such a scenario..? As for all you other people out there who are NOT theists, you can just tell me what you think about this whole dilemma, and what you personally would do. How long would YOU want to live for, if you had the choice..? ;)
