Was My Credit Card Charged

Why was my credit card charged $1 from Yahoo, when I opened aYahoo account for my son?

I opened the email address for him, and it needed "age proof" from me, and required my credit card info to do that..It stated that my credit card would NOT be charged. Tonight my husband called to ask me what the $1 charge from Yahoo was for. I am now on here to ask if this has happened to anyone else and why it did happen.

I have a charge on my credit card for vesta? what is it?

Why are credit card charges "pending" before they are "posted?"

There is a variety of messages POS systems can send all the way down to the payment processor (the manager of your card account). Most of the time systems are setup to run your card with an Authorization Message, which just checks the balance and holds the funds. The POS device needs to send a completion message to have the funds pulled from your account. Realistically the POS system can just run your card with a 0200 message and avoid the 100 message for the pending state. Its mostly for historical reasons, eg gas pumps, restaurants, hotels all do an authorization and than a completion when the total amount is finalized. For gas pumps, they usually authorize $1-75, depending on the station. A lot of times you will see the $1 from a gas station on your balance before the end of the day when it completes via the batch settlement process. Batch settlement is slightly different than just completing via the 2xx messages, since it is a set of transactions for all accounts run through the POS device for the day. A lot like the old check clearing process of nightly routing of the physical checks. For reference - ISO 8583

Why was my credit card not charged for items purchased?

Most likely this is because it is a pending transaction. Merchants will often verify the card, and possibly place a hold on it before officially charging the account. I know that this is most common at gas stations and online purchases.Gas stations in the USA are a prepay system, so they verify the card abd end up charging it a day or two later potentially.Online merchants verify and possibly place a hold on the card, but then wait to charge until they actually ship the item. http://Walmart.com does this, and Amazon will sometimes charge you a few times based on the shipments and various sellers you buy from.

What happens if a credit card charge doesn't show up on the statement? I made a large purchase of furniture over a week ago on a visa card. The furniture has been delivered, but the charge does not show up on my card as pending or processed.

What happened for your situation? There’s no info how they got your card to begin with. The most likely scenario is someone forgot to charge you. It’s also possible there was a technical issue with settlement, or with the software processing the transaction; This is less likely, but it does happen, and it’s usually found in the reconciliation process. Best answer- if you want to do right by them, call them up, and here’s why:All preauthorizations expire within 24 hours for swiped transactions and 3 business days for non-swiped card-not-present transactions. Preauthorizations are an ‘open to buy’ hold on a customer credit card and are often reflected in real-time in your online banking, shown as an amount pending. Visa allows merchants to settle a card not present authorization up to 7 calendar days from the date on which the first Authorization Request was received. (Visa core rules, Table 5-15: Approval Response Validity Periods)While merchants can still settle transactions after an expired authorization, the authorization is invalid, generating penalty fees and increasing chargeback risk.Merchants frequently say, ‘I’ve never had a problem settling a transaction later than that in the past’. That’s true, most issuers will still allow merchants to settle the transaction up to 30 days, but it’s at their discretion.

I have a charge of $5.99 on my credit card from Adyen Recurring. What company is this?

Adyen is a payment processing company. The most plausible explanation is that you have a subscription with a service somewhere that is using Adyen to process their payments. Typically there should be additional detail with the transaction to help identify who is charging the 5.99. Get your statement or login to account on your credit card company’s site and look for extra detail about the transaction. If it’s not obvious from the statement, call your credit card company and ask if they can help you track down who is originating the 5.99.Hope that helps!CH

I ate at a restaurant and paid with my credit card. the charge was 33 dollars and i wrote in a 3 dollar tip?

This is completely normal. Often in restaurants because they don't know what the total will come to they put through the card at either a set amount for everyone or for a certain percentage and higher amount, just to make sure that you have enough available credit. Don't worry until after it stops saying pending. Perfectly normal procedure.

How do I dispute an $8,000 charge made to my credit card for Airbnb? Neither I nor my husband made this charge. When I called they acted like I charged it or a family member! They wouldn't just refund my money.

I don’t know how to make an update on this post other than to hit ‘answer’ to my own question! LOL. I am grateful for the helpful replies I’ve received so far and am choosing to ignore the one bad apple of the bunch. I guess that’s life, huh?So far I’ve contacted my credit card company twice, wrote down their names and both have told me they have a turnaround date on fraud claims of fourteen days. They seemed up front and I took them on their word. Airbnb has been a different story.I’ve called Airbnb three times and wrote down the names of each person I spoke to. One customer service representative said that my claim has been transferred to another department. I asked what department and he couldn’t give me the name of the department, a name of someone I could contact, or a phone number. Just that they’d get back to me, so I made it very personal for this rep on the phone. I spoke to him about how it feels to be $8,000 in debt for a vacation I did not take, nor order, and have to pay for. Imagine that. He seemed very understanding and he apologized for not being able to provide me with any further information. So that’s the progress so far. I still have knots in my stomach and I’m sure my blood pressure is sky high. My family doesn’t even take vacations that cost $8,000! It makes me wonder if it was overseas and if it was paid for before the vacation even happened. Lucky I caught the charge just mere seconds after it happened because I signed up for text alerts for over a certain dollar amount. Thanks again for the help!Rosalie
