I am planning a Euro trip in October this year. I'm visiting Munich, Berlin, Brussels, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Rome. Is it going to be very cold? What are the must see places and other do's and don'ts?

It will be not too much cold. But that's not even your least of the worries. It will be often cloudy or gloomy and worse might rain as well. I am personally not a big fan of gloomy weather. So that's there. But you get good sunny days as well. So make sure you keep your weather alerts on. Coming to the second part - good choice of cities. Most of the cities have great nightlife scene. Particularly Berlin and Barcelona. Amsterdam is great as well, but it is overrun by the most number of tourists for good reason. (RLD and weed) But if you are looking for a plain historical, architectural trip - only Rome gives a best value for the buck. Barcelona also has a unique architecture that is different from the rest of the Western Europe. Bucket list: Book in early October - you can go to the legendary Oktoberfest in Munich. In Munich, BMW museum is a must. Concentration camp is another to do list, if you are into that stuff. Do the free walking tour.Berlin has a lot. The free walking tour is one of the best. Take the hop-on, hop-off tour. It's fun and you get to cover a lot. Do the pub crawl.Barcelona - best city in terms of overall experience. Sagrada Familia is must. Gaudi's tour and Paella tasting is a must. Refer ZNMD for more stuff. Spanish culture is an experience in itself. Amsterdam - you know already! Rome - haven't been, but this has a really good value in terms of historical and architectural tour.I just wrote all this in a hurry. This is a very simplified version.

My parents and I are planning a trip to Europe (Paris, Switzerland, and Italy) this October. What are some good suggestions on how to go about this trip since it's our first time in Europe?

Don’t try to do too much on any given day.If it’s your first time in Europe, chances are you’ll have a “to-do” list as long as your arm (particularly in some places). What you don’t want to do, though, is to just march from - say - Notre Dame to the Eiffel Tower to a French bakery to the Louvre to this to that…you’ll get exhausted and you won’t have half as much enjoyment out of it. You’ll find that some places are a lot more interesting than you thought they might be, and that other places are much less so. There might even be things you find on your way which “distract” you from the plan you might have made before you left your accommodation that morning. Don’t feel bad if that happens. Europe’s not going anywhere in a terrible hurry, so you can always come back and enjoy what you missed out on next time - or even enjoy the same things over and over again! There’s a saying in my family which always gets wheeled out whenever anyone’s planning a trip (anywhere, really, but it’s about Europe): “You can never exhaust the wonders of Europe, but you can exhaust yourself.” At times, I’ve found that useful to have written in my notebook where I keep track of the addresses of places I’m staying or whatever else I need.

I am traveling to Germany in October for at least 2 weeks. I want to travel to some other areas in Europe while I am there. What places must I see?

I would recommend Paris and Amsterdam. In Germany either Berlin or Munich. 2 weeks goes quickly when you’re traveling.Depending on where you arrive and depart that may take a couple of your days away. Most people going directly to Germany go by way of Frankfurt, Berlin or Munich. I prefer Munich as I lived there for 3 years. You are close to the German Alps for a couple day trips, over to Berchtesgaden, visit The Eagle’s Nest and into Salzburg, Austria, all are worth a trip.Tour the Salt Mines, go to Neuschwanstein Castle.Munich is a good College City and a lot of good night life. English Gardens is a large City Park with a great Outdoor Beer Garden and Restaurant.Paris is of course full of tourists in the summer but still worth a visit.Amsterdam is another good youth city. Berlin has some fantastic night life and all of these have History, Culture and Entertainment. The only other two on such a short trip but will take travel time to and from would be Venice and Florence, Italy. Florence is another of my favorite cities, great shopping at open air market for clothes, especially leather and you can bargain.Pass Pisa as umpteen tourist in a small area and takes forever to go into the Tower and that is mainly all there is there. I also lived near Pisa over a year.TIP: you want to see as much as you can in two weeks, less various days for travel, I have discovered as a world traveler if you are having a great time where you are drop a visit to another area and enjoy yourself. The longer you stay in one area the more you will really make great memories and generally want come back.Take the faster trains to travel or save a nights Hotel, Hostel cost and go on overnight trains when feasible. It’s easy to understand the train schedules in Europe as many are in English. If you know specifically where you want to go, check on line for EuroRail Passes, they have all kinds of them and then you only need to check schedules and the track number and get on in time. No long lines that way.Check all the cities and nearby attractions on line and take good notes. Keep on your iPad or laptop for reference.I and my wife will be gong there again end of August until 4 Oct. we will be going to my 5th OctoberFest in Munich before we come home.Enjoy.

Best places to go in Mexico?

You are going to Mexico at a great time! The festivals for Day of the Dead are really spectacular- the best in the following cities: island of Janitzio in Lago de Pátzcuaro, Oaxaca, Patzcuaro, Huejutla, Chiapa de Corzo, Jesús María, Tzintzuntzan, Míxquic and Tecate. Since these cities are spread out across Mexico, you really have a great opportunity to choose other attractions nearby.

For ruins- nothing beats Quintana Roo and the Yucatan. Pyramids, ancient ceremony sites, natural aquarium, etc- http://www.insidepv.com/Cancun-Mexico-Beach-Vacation/things-to-do-in-cancun.htm

If you're looking for museum style culture - Nothing beats Mexico City. Guadalajara is also just a magnificent city- I've seen it referred to as "the most beautiful city in Latin America" more than once and I can see why. Shopping, history, art and culture are fantastic here. Tepic is another city that offers a great range of cultural attractions- and an easy drive to nearby Mazatlan, etc.

If you want to see cathedrals- I would recommend Tepic area- the nearby cities include spanish missions, cathedral ruins, - do a search on the web and you will find some enticing photos. My favorite cathedral so far though, is the one in Talpa, Mexico's Holy City. It was absolutely magnificent- it looked like one of the ancient cathedrals in Europe and we were lucky enough to witness an elaborate pilgrimage where a handful of pilgrims walked into town from who knows where, then walked on their knees up the grand steps all the way to front of the cathedral- it was truly magical.

What is the Weather like in Italy in October?

Just a point of reference, Venice, Florence and Rome are all in the same country. I'm sure you meant "what the weather will be like in these three *cities*".

I went in November a couple of years ago,and I found the weather to be quite nice, but the locals though it was cold. I was walking around with shorts on, and they were wearing wollen hats. It got up to 78 or so. So, in October, it will probably still be warmer.
The beaches around Rome will most likely be closed for the season because it is "cold". The water actually is cold at this time of year (even from a Canadian perspective, it was cold!) so perhpas don't have going to the beach on the top of your list.

It did rain for us as well, and if you are on the coast, especially Venice, the rain won't fall straight down. So bring a compact umbrella and jacket.

A significant number of my female friends who have travelled through Italy have told me of stories where men approached them to show them around the city or even to marry them! Just take this with a grain of salt, always be a little warry and know your boundaries!

Also, in Rome there are some groups of pick pockets that work in gangs that you should keep a look out for. Some will hold up signs in English like "Popcorn" and when a curious tourist comes in to investigate, they'll go through your stuff. Just keep your eyes open for this kind of behaviour and avoid them.

Oh, and things to see:
Michaelangelo's David: Florence
Duomo: Florence
Saint Marco's Piazza: Venice
Vatican city & Museum: Rome
Collosium: Rome
etc.
