Should you use your real name on Facebook?
I understand your question. And no, i don't think you can edit the original question. I think you can use your real name on Facebook. After all, a lot of names are very common. I searched for my name, and I came up with about 20 others in FB with my same name. Not to mention nicknames, or different spellings. But just be careful what other info you use. Some people don't put in the hometown, or current city. Some don't use a Birthday. I would really check out the privacy functions and use it. I suggest setting pretty much everything to "friends only." I know it can still probably be hacked into, but it least it's not out in the open to the public. I personally have only my name, hometown (because I moved several years ago,) and current city. But I think I will remove my current city. I do NOT have my employment history, and certainly not my current job. No phone numbers, school/college or anything like that on my profile. I personally really like Facebook, but you have to really keep up on the new features and disable things as needed. Everybody uses FB in different ways. Some will add everybody they know, while others are selective about who they add. I am in between, I don't add everybody I know. But I do add people that I have worked with (in the past, not current co-workers) or friends I used to know but have started to grow away from. But it gives us an intermediate connection. Most of my FB friends are ones that would have lost contact with if it was left to phone, email, or texting. We are friends, but not good enough friends to keep in touch. so this is a good way to follow what's going on with them. So far, one has been married, another engaged, a new house, and several have moved several hundred miles away for different jobs. I also just had a cousin that friended me from another country. I know who he is, but have hardly talked to him in the past 20 years. I'm sort of glad we now have that way to communicate. I also like the IM (instant message) feature. I know this can be used in regular email too, but some people are always connected to FB. I live in a different state from most of my family, so that give us a way to communicate without expensive phone bills.
Why should I use Facebook?

Should I make a Facebook?
If you consider yourself outgoing and very sociable, you can hold off until you actually started college. Your college could be telling you that they have social networking done online now and instead of in person groups.If you are shy and reserved, you can consider it but limit who is on your list and what groups you join. I am apart of my college online support group and plus a women in college group which is full of both online and in the classroom women students. I have had positive experiences with both although I have had one student claim I was questioning her intelligence. (Which makes me wonder if she questioned it.) I reminded her that we are here to support each other. I am for her, not against her.What each student has to keep in mind is that the farther we get in our degree program past the electives, the smarter we become on that subject and we should be feeling that way about our lives too. The whole college experience for me has taught me so much about life and people in general. You should keep an open mind to doing it. Social media isn’t all bad. It just depends on how you use it to your advantage. Don’t forget to actually socialize with new friends that you meet. Also, choose them wisely. Don’t let them influence you too much. I say it’s OK, I rarely use it, probably better if we quit using social media in the way that we use it today (personal use). My opinion… it’s a database of information that is used for purposes other than what end users currently use it for or even understand its potential underlying use.Typically, anything that benefits you as an individual, you pay for. Facebook is a free service, it may benefit you in a social way, but for all intents has no true benefit otherwise. However, Facebook is beneficial to corporations or others, in various ways which in the end, is not likely to be beneficial to us, the end user.

ROFL LMAO I was the same way when I joined in the beginning. And believe it or not, I joined for study reasons. FB is a social site. It is used for keeping in touch. It is used for discussions. It can even be used for revolutions! (Look at Egypt) It is not for one sole purpose either. But one of it's major features is that it has made the world into a global village. Almost every country is involved in FB. They also have games there, which, in my opinion, are for people who have too much time on their hands, or just need a break (and don't need dynamic stuff for it). If you want to create a group, FB can be used; if you want to create an online presence, FB is there; to introduce your business to the world, or to start off a new business; FB is there. You can post your creations there and expect people to give you jobs or tasks, freelance that is. You can go and find your old friends, whom you had thought lost long time ago (yeah, happened to me, my ONE reason why I've stuck to it). You can use FB to announce events, it can be used to see how many people are going to attend that event. It can be used to compete in games with friends, it can be used to announce to one or more friends something you want to tell them. In summary, FB can be used for a zillion things, but as yet, no, it doesn't have a point. LOL. The privacy settings are for the purpose, though that help to tell others how often you use FB. My profile has wall post disabled. It just shows I don't have time to read everyone's private stuff as well as any stupid comment or tease they may want to tell me. My friends complain a lot, but I don't care. I only use FB so I can keep in touch with friends whom I'd lost somewhere in my childhood 'cos of country shifting, and see where they are and what they're at; I also posted my gfx there to see which of them is good enough, which one needs improvement, in short opinions of amateurs and experienced people alike.
