Weight Gain Due To Loss Of Period

Weight gain during period?

Hi all, I was wondering, how much weight does someone put on during their period, or even if it is possible to put on noticeable weight? I've been purposely losing weight for 6 months now and I've never had problems with weight loss during my period before.
I started my period yesterday, but the whole problem with trying to lose weight started over a week ago where I just could not lose any pounds despite still sticking to good healthy eating and exercise like I've done for the past few months.

It's just odd because I've been losing weight for so long now and I've never had this problem until now :)

Thank you!

My period stopped due to weight loss...?

If you want to have baby's you need to see a doctor and find out whats causing the issue

dieting doesn't cause it, but being underweight could cause it..if your under 19 BMI it would be underweight enough to stress out the body, but don't worry about it if your BMI is normal. What really matters is your fat%. 10% is enough to mess with your cycle..30% is normal for a woman, we need a certain amount of fat so we can hold hormones, and have baby's, and we need to have stored vitamins in our fat, bones, and organs to help grow and support a fetus. There are certain vitamins that are only fat soluble like A,D,E,and K.

you need fat to produce hormones like estrogen and progesterone for a healthy pregnancy, not to mention that having low estrogen can contribute to osteoporosis.

being too skinny isn't always the reason..you could have a cyst, have hyperthyroidism, be pregnant, have PCOS,be under stress, or just be irregular naturally

edit: I was reading about this, and turns out eating too little calories can make this happen to you, (just eat a little more healthy fat in your diet, and add a couple hundred a day..of foods high in nutrition)and I guess 15%-17% is enough to lose your period..there is so much conflicting information out there I am frustrated...one person tells you you're fat, the next tells you you're too skinny...and if you're an athlete or dancer they tell you to have low body fat for your sport..i just don't know

and the people below me are kind of right about getting control of the obsession through counseling before it controls you, because when it starts to affect your life, your health, and your relationships you know you're starting to go down with this obsession (the obsession of wanting to have a perfect body) just try to keep a balance, and not listen to people telling you what to do...after all anorexia is sometimes just caused from wanting to have a little control in your life...if that is the only thing you have control over (because your being emotionally abused) then some of us have conditioned ourselves to not eat when we feel overwhelmed the control others have over us.

Or it just could have been a diet gone array...sometimes when us woman diet we are so excited by all the attention we get, we just keep going...just keep in mind your long term health is more important then looking good in a dress for one night.

How can weight loss affect my period?

Too much weight loss can cause you to miss your periods. Loss of weight either due to dieting or eating disorders can cause fluctuations in the thyroid gland, which in turn leads to a reduction of these reproductive hormones. This will result in the absence of menstruation, a condition called secondary amenorrhea. Amenorrhea can be caused by losing more than 10% of your ideal body weight within a short period of time. This means losing 12 pounds may lead to missed periods for a person whose ideal weight is 120 pounds.Women who are underweight do not produce enough estrogen. Besides, your cells are unable to convert cholesterol into estrogen if you lack enough fat. Remember, you require enough estrogen to build the uterine lining and have your periods. So women with less fat in their bodies are likely to get fewer periods or stay longer without ovulation.

Weight gain before your period.is it normal?

Yes- it is normal. It will not affect your appearance much- you may not want to go shopping right now though :)

I gain a couple pounds usually 3-5 days before my period and then it goes back down a few days after I start.

Can late period cause weight gain?

I am 26 years old, my period has been irregular for the past year, I am average weight and height.
January - missed
Febuary - missed
March - lasted 5 days
April- Lasted 5 days
May- missed
June-missed
July- missed or not here yet??
This is the longest it's been, besides pregnancy is there another reason why its so irregular?? Is there a way to regulate it without birth control? some natural ways?? I take one a day with soy 3x a week, I work out 2x a week. Also I noticed that I gained 4 pounds in 1 week , which is very abnormal since I have maintained my weight for the last 3 years. Does this weight gain mean it's coming??

Thanks for the input-it's appreciated.

Could a 5lb weight gain cause missed period?

OK, stupid question. On Aug 5th I started my period (which is usually irregular) and on Aug 8th I had surgery on my foot. Because of lack of exercise and increase in junk food between Aug 8th and Sept 8th I have gained about 5pds. AND as stupid as it sounds I am pretty sure that I did not get a period this month AT ALL! I've been preoccupied with my foot healing so yes it is stupid that I can not remember but hey it happens. I am married with 2 boys so another baby doesn't scare me and if I do not get my period by the middle of this month I will take a test. I'm just wondering if a 5pd weight gain in one month would cause a missed period or could this potentially be a pregnancy. I can't judge by mild cramping, bloating and slightly sensitive nipples because my period usually comes around this time. So any GENUINE ANSWERS would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I lost my period due to weight loss. Can I restore it by stopping weight loss but not gaining back fat?

Loss of your period is a sign that your body is under stress. Chronic malnourishment could make your period stop. You must have starved your body of food for a long time. Yes, you should start eating nourishing food again if you are able to.I suspect that you may have some difficulty re-nourishing yourself. You will inevitably gain some weight as you start eating normally again, and your period will not return until you achieve a healthy body weight. You need help with this. It is a very difficult and potentially dangerous problem. You should see a doctor and explain your concern. You will need help to re-nourish your body. You also need to look at other possible reasons for the loss of your period. You should rule out other problems rather than assuming that it is your weight loss that has caused it.

Is losing your period due to weight loss/exercise dangerous?

Stop now. You are probably anorexic. I am not just a healthcare provider, I also was a teen who was anorexic. Feel free to contact me on myspace-rebekah montgomery. if you want more advice. You may not see the health issues now, but I guarantee you will when you get older. I have. Stop now. Get help. Tell your parents or someone you feel will listen. You are probably a highly intelligent girl, with a mass amount of potential. Listen to reason and chose to be healthy. Anorexia is not a sign of skinny people. Fat people can be anorexic too. It is about your body not getting the essential nurtrients and vitamins to sustain the normal amount of pysiological capabcity to function. Having no period, is the first physical most prevelant sign that your body is unhealthy and most definately related to your diet. Suggest, eating more calories up to 14 or 1500 as a normal 141 pound person requires 1500 to maintain weight. ADD exercise and they require more, about 17-18oo or more depending on level or intensity of exercise. You are starving yourself. Medically, with the info you provided, you should be taking in about 1800 calories a day to maintain you weight at the amount of activity level, and that is being conservative. I am 150 pounds and work out 4-5 times a week and eat about 2000 to 2300 calories a day and maintain my weight. In all honesty, you could probably eat 2500 calories a day and still lose weight if you are working out really hard two hours a day. You must be careful though, because you have lost this amount of weight so quickly, you could regain the weight very easily even though your body needs it and wants it. You should see a nutritionalist to find a better way of eating, if in fact you still want to lose weight. I am not saying, stop the desire to lose weight, I am SAYING- DO IT in a healthy way. You can eat more foods and more calories if the foods you eat are low in sugars and fats that get stored. It is too much to go into detail here. No, you can still keep losing weight, but do this safely and more healthy. Best of luck kiddo.
Think about it?
