Were There Events And Polices That Were Possibly Unethical In The Conduct Of The War Of 1898 Also

I remember when I was young, probably about 16 or so, I asked my father the exact same question. My father was in law enforcement for a little over 20 years before he retired, longer if you count his service as a Security Specialist in the Air Force. If I remember correctly, the exchange went something like this:Me: "So dad, what if someone snuck up on you from behind and grabbed your gun and pulled it on you?"Dad: "That's not going to happen."Me: "What do you mean? What if they were real quick and in shape and stuff?" (note: I played football & wrestled at the time, so I thought I was quick & in shape & stuff.)Dad: "It doesn't matter."Me: "Sure it does! What would you do? Would you have to give up and hold up your hands and stuff?"Dad: (in his duty gear, on his way out the door to work) "Come here and try, then."Me: (walks up behind Dad and tries to pull his gun out of his holster) "It won't come out."Dad: "That's because the holster is designed to help retain your weapon."Me: "But what if I know how to use a holster and click the button on it?"Dad: "Try."Me: "Okay."Then next thing I knew, I was on the ground with my arm pinned in a very precarious position behind, around, or through my body, I'm really not sure which. Nor am I really sure how I got in that position. What I am sure of, however, is that it was rather uncomfortable, and I voiced my discomfort to my chuckling father. His response?"Training also helps retain a weapon."So, what would a cop do if you tried to grab his gun? Short answer: whatever it takes to keep his gun.

Consider the trolley scenario. You are on a trolley that is running its course without stopping. You cannot activate the brakes on the trolley. Ahead, on the track the trolley is due to run on, five people are tied. On another track, one person is tied. There is a lever in front of you that switches tracks. If you let the trolley run its course, it will kill the five people tied to the track. If you pull the lever, it will switch to the other track and kill only one person who is tied to the track. Should you pull the lever or not?A utilitarian would argue that you should pull the lever, since utilitarians believe that the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest amount of people must be sought. Saving five people instead of one would achieve the greatest amount of happiness for the greatest amount of people in this situation. Hence, a utilitarian would save the five by turning the trolley onto the track on which only one person is tied.

A 17 year old boy is brought into the emergency room, gravely injured. He needs a heart transplant, but there is a limited amount of hearts available, and the kid has been on drugs. Unfortunately, it is quite likely that he will overdose and die in the next few years. At the same time, an older lady is brought into the emergency room. She also needs a heart transplant. She is well into her seventies but is loved by her grandchildren and is an active tennis player. She has not finalized her will. Both people desperately need a heart transplant. They will die otherwise. There are two people. There is one heart. It is your choice. No computer can help you. The decision will rest on your shoulders. And the time is ticking down. This is why I am not an ethicist.

As an American, if you were given the chance to pass any single federal or state law/bill, or alternatively a constitutional amendment...?

I would stop the default process on ALL student loans (current, past and future).

Another bill I'd put into law would be to halt all federal student loans that senior citizens have. Why? because it's circular motion. Payments are forced thru TOPS and automatic deductions thru disability benefits or social security retirement then those folks (since neither benefits aren't anything to be thrilled about) have to turn around and ask other areas of government for assistance with electricity, phone, rent, food stamps and medical because they can't afford those things because the government is taking out of their income/benefits for student loans. why not just stop the circle of events? oh, I forgot, maybe they don't stop the circle because it keeps loads of people employed by the government.

The laws on student loans now are only for particular loans or particular time periods or particular kinds of federal loans, or for those only that are currently being paid on and for people who are current with their payments....but nothing out there currently is for ALL student loan recipients, and to not reach all I feel it's a pick and choose kind of thing and is discriminatory.

The word Ethics has been derived from the Greek adjective “ethos”, which comes from “ethica”— which means custom, habits or usages.Literally: The term ethics mean the science of customs and habits of men. It is the science of habitual conduct of man.Ethics is science because it depends upon the observation, classification and explaination of human conduct. But it is normative science.
