What part did economic factors play in the survival of the eastern roman empire?

Probably the largest economic factor in the Eastern Roman Empire was that it had richer territory than the Western Empire had. For instance, Constantinople controlled Egypt for centuries, which was the source of inexpensive grain which very much supported the economy.

The capital of the Eastern Empire, Constantinople, remained pretty stable and secure from attack until the 13th century. That meant that for most periods they maintained a tax system and were able to fill the state treasury. The state having money meant they could raise armies, or even buy off invaders who otherwise would have plundered and destroyed trade, farming, etc.

By having richer land the Eastern Empire was able to have a more stable and secure government, which meant they could maintain economic stability longer than the West could.

Major factors contributed to the growth of early Western civilizations?

The Technology Historian and author James Burke credits the scratch plow for the rise of civilization, that it allowed for a surplus of food using fewer hands, thus freeing up people for new occupations, especially thinkers/engineers/philosophers

Up to this point life for the average human was not unlike a modern wilderness survival scenario, food water and shelter were constant concerns/struggles.

There was also a break in mini ice ages that made larger populations more feasible, and ideal places for farming helped like the Nile flood plain and the fertile valleys of Europe.

How was the Byzantine Empire able to survive and thrive? Just curious. :) Thank you. :)?

After the fall of Rome, the key challenge to the Empire was to maintain a set of relations between itself and its sundry neighbors. When these nations set about forging formal political institutions, they were dependent on Constantinople. Byzantine diplomacy soon managed to draw its neighbors into a network of international and inter-state relations. This network revolved around treaty making, and included the welcoming of the new ruler into the family of kings, and the assimilation of Byzantine social attitudes, values and institutions.Byzantines regarded diplomacy as a form of war by other means: the Bureau of Barbarians was the first foreign intelligence agency, gathering information on the empire's rivals from every imaginable source.

PLEASE HELP in the book all quiet on the western front?

I think you should read the book and answer these questions with your own opinion. But oh well - I just read the book and loved it.

The critiques the romanticism of the glory of war because it shows the true side behind the honor that all the young men imagined as they left home. What was once pictured as a wonderful thing to do for their homeland was, in reality, a torture of unimagineable sorts. It extends to nationalism because the men no longer fought for their country, but for survival - and for their families. Kantorek is teh one who urged them into the war with false ideas and they regret what they walked straight into as a cause of their old teacher.

Is abortion a "new" phenomena? Did abortion exist prior to the 20th century?

Right Iky. Humans have always had the means by which to control fertility through abortion (herbal concoctions) AND like other species to "kill their young" (infanticide) in order to keep population levels where they needed to be in order for our species to survive.
