What 5k Time Should I Aim For

What 5k time should I aim for?

I am a long distance track runner and I will be doing my first 5k this Saturday. I can run 1 mile in 5:59 and 2 miles in 13:15. I ran 3 miles the other day in 24:30 and it was an easy run. I could have gone much faster if it was a race! What is a good time to aim for in my 5k on Saturday?

5k times for 17 year old?

hey so im 17 and i weigh 180 ( built figure)
im not really a runner but i started doing 10 miles a week as a new years resolution
i was wondering what are good 5k times?
i just ran a 5k in 23 minutes ....but like how fast do cross country people go? im just curious

What time should I aim for in my junior year of high school in cross country? I'm trying to aim for a D2, maybe D1 school? I'm a freshman girl and my PR for this year was a 23:11 for the 5k.

When I was in high school, late 1990s, the best girls were running in the 19:00s and even 18:00s.But really the question is whether you’re in the top 10 or 20 of runners in your state. That’s where you want to be. No matter what times you’re clocking, if you’re in the top 20, preferably top 10, you’ll be a shoe-in for Division 1. Take a look at the race times of your recent races. How fast are the top 20 girls running? That’s how fast you need to run.

I'm aiming for a PR time on my 5k and 10k this fall. Which should I do first?

5km. Think of it as speedwork for your 10km. Presumably you’re training for 5km by doing shorter distances at your desired race pace - the 5km has the same effect for 10.

Is a 21:48 a good time for a 5k girls race?

definitely. you won't be competitive at a state or national level but it's defintely respectable. my high school girls team is competitive in the area and the top 7 girls range from 19;40-22flat.

What is a good 5K and 3K time for a 13 year old girl?

I'd say the AVERAGE time for a 13 year old is about 15 minutes for a 3k and 27 minutes for a 5k. A GOOD time would be about 13 minutes for a 3k and 22 minutes for a 5k. But since this is only your first year running you are doing pretty well. Just keep practicing and you will get better. Good Luck!

Good 5k time for freshman?

i am a freshman boy and this is my first year doing xc. i did 2 years of track in middle school and got pr's of 1 min in the 400, 2:22 in the 800, and 5:45 mile. today was the conference meet for xc ad i got 19:40. compared to my other meets where my times ranged from 21-22. i am going to reigonals for jv and i want to know what is a good time to shoot for and beat. i am thinking 19. but anyways is my 5k time good, average, excellentt or what for a freshman? and what would be a great time for a freshman be?

Is 27:58 a good 5k time for a 13 year old girl?

It was my first 5k this morning, and I ran it in 28:08, minus the 30ish seconds it took to get over the startline (they only went by guntime, but i was in the front half). I was aiming for under 35, so I am very happy with the time, just wondering how it compares to others. Thanks!
p.s. I got sick at the end (can you say EMBARRASSING??) but i know I worked it as hard as i could! hahaha...

Is my first 5k rowing time decent?

For a couple of weeks only that is a very very good start - you must have fair fitness and stamina already.

If you are new to this then you have scope to knock a lot of this by working on rhythm and increasing your reach. I don't know what rating you are rowing at but everybody rates too high when they start. Concentrate on longer, stronger strokes, trying to keep the same split, but rating slower. Aim to keep your strokes per minute below 28 - this will build up leg strength and stamina, but also crucially the extra time gives your body the chance to recover.

You should target a steady pace and set yourself a next goal of keeping below 2:00 minute 500m split for the whole piece trying to keep the leg power up and the rating low (fast down the slide, slow up the slide!). That pace will take you down under 20 mins which is a great achievement. When you want to wind up the pace to rate higher (if your aerobic fitness is up to it!) you will then be amazed at what you can achieve.

When I do steady state training I row an hour (around 16k) at a rating of 22 - 25 and can keep a split of 1:50 - 1:55.

How much can I improve my 5k time in 2 weeks (see comment for details)?

For someone with your background, who is not close to being well trained yet, I would say about a 1 minute improvement in your 5K time is possible but challenging in 2 weeks. For a more experienced runner, a 1 minute improvement wouldn’t usually be possible such a short time. But since you haven’t actually RACED a 5K yet, it is hard to tell what your starting point is from which you might be able to improve by as much as a minute. If you ran an accurately measured 3 miles in 22:00 (not around 3 miles in around 22 minutes) that would put you at 22:47 for 5K.But that is running by yourself in a training run. The excitement of the race, plus having people running around you that you can chase can be worth an entire minute by itself if you are someone who thrives on competition. That puts you at 21:47.Then with pretty aggressive training for a little over a week, followed by 3 or 4 days of partial rest to make sure you are feeling sharp on race day, you might improve by another 30–60 seconds. Without knowing the details of your previous training I wouldn’t want to suggest a very detailed training plan between now and the race. But 3 example workouts you might do would be 12x400m at 5K goal pace or slightly quicker with a 200m jog recovery, 6x800 at 5K goal pace with 400m jog recovery, and 4 miles solid (maybe 7:30 pace for you). Those workouts would be done with at least 1 day off or easy in between.Based on all of those assumptions and what very little we know about you and your training, I would say trying to break 21 minutes is a reasonable goal, but breaking 20 minutes is not likely.
