What Age Rating Do You Personally Believe Evil Dead Should Have Been

Is there any movies scarier then the conjuring?

I really liked "The Conjuring," and I would agree that it's probably one of the scariest movies I've seen as well.

As far as something scarier, it would honestly be hard to say. First of all, being in the movie theater enhances the senses and makes horror films much scarier than they normally would be just sitting at home. The type of horror movie also has a lot to do with whether it's scary. Most horror films these days are full of blood, violence, and gore, and as you saw, there isn't much of any of that in The Conjuring because it's a psychological horror film. A good example of the difference would be "Evil Dead" (the 2013 version). That is also a horror movie, but it is just nonstop blood, gore, and murder, so it's nastier more so than scary. Likewise with the "Saw" movies.

Also, I think the age of the movie has something to do with it. When you see the film when it first comes out, it's much scarier than when you go back in time, because after all, these movies borrow ideas from each and the effects are always changing, so a horror film made in 2013 will most likely be much scarier than one made in 2009. I remember when the 2003 version of "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" came out, I literally had nightmares for weeks, but after watching it again recently, there isn't anything at all scary about that movie. I had a dreadful fear of "Candyman" from the 1990s, but that too looks foolish nowadays since technology is advancing the effects in the movies.

If you haven't seen them yet, I'd say "Insidious" and "Paranormal Activity" are very creepy movies as well. The Conjuring takes its style from those films. The original 1973 version of "The Exorcist" is a classic and a MUST see for anyone interested in horror films. You probably won't be scared (after all, it's 40 years old), but it still is a very creepy movie. You have to remember that that was the movie that set the standard for every single horror movie produced since then; people were literally throwing up and passing out in the theaters while watching it!

What kind of x-rated movies do you like to watch?

The first film that comes to mind for me is of course MIDNIGHT COWBOY. I was just a kid when it came out but I was able to see it a few years after its original premier. Joe Buck and Ratso Rizzo make a dynamic pair as prostitute and pimp in this brilliantly acted and skillfully written master piece that most critics applauded but for the wrong reasons. The film should have won the Academy Award because of its daring and unflinching look at ruined lives reaching one last time to touch the illusive face of God but it actually won because it was an unimaginable ‘Fuck you’! to the establishment of the time. The film was the first and last mainstream film with an X rating to win an Academy Award. The crime behind the film; sexuality and ‘perversion’. In that era everyone believed incorrectly that sex was Satan and personal desire for sexual gratification was an act of pure evil especially when you juxtapose the rising tide of pornography that overtook the nation and the world from the late sixties until today. My problem with the puritanical stances of the day are that those people were hypocrites of the highest order holding their Bibles in one hand and the tits of some tired whore in another. X rated films such as Gaspar Noe’s LOVE and Larry Clark’s MARFA GIRL are brilliant in their creator’s dedication to show real life relationships as they are, raw, beautiful, harsh and intense. How do you give a film that shows a penis anda vagina an X rating while you honor films that showcase blood, murder, torture, disfigurement, war and total human destruction as PG and R Rated entertainment? I can’t square that in my mind. I’ve never seen SAW or its sequels through to completion those films should carry an X rating but they are rewarded and lauded as ‘amazing’ and approved like licenses to print profits. I think they are disgusting and would prefer Nagisa Oshima’s masterwork IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES over anything that your local MPAA standardized systems would allow kids and teens approve for them to see.

How much potential psychological damage would watching a horror movie do to a 10 year old?

Everyone is different – whether they’re very young or very old. I’ve known full grown adults who can’t stand the horror genre, or any genre with excessive gore or violence, for multiple different reasons. Some people are just naturally more squeamish than others, and some are dealing with preexisting trauma they can’t bear to watch even knowing it’s just pretend. Everyone has their own thresholds for entertainment and it’s important for parents to learn what and where those thresholds are.For example, I was very much the kid who insisted upon watching horror films, action films, and even adult-themed films such as Pulp Fiction. I adored them, and no amount of parental concern was going to keep me from them. They learned this the hard way when I figured out progressively sneakier methods of escape to watch television in the middle of the night. I sought them out on my own time and no one and nothing was going to stop me. I was just that kind of kid.Meanwhile, one of our neighbors’ children couldn’t even get through something as comparatively tame as Terminator 2, and he was older than me by a few years. For me it wasn’t the horror / action / adult flicks that gave me a complex, oh no, that’d be too easy. For me it was Bambi, The Lion King, Old Yeller, The Neverending Story, The Dark Crystal, etc, etc, etc. Those films were actually intended for a young audience, yet they were the ones that left me a gibbering, sobbing wreck.I think the only horror film that ever even came close to the emotional impact of any of those films would be Pet Sematary. I remember feeling extremely sad for the little boy who wandered into the street and was struck by a semi-truck, but didn’t really grasp why anyone would want to bring them back until I was older.TL;DR – You really can’t make blanket statements about a species so diverse and individualistic as human beings.

At what age is it appropriate to tell my children that God isn’t real?

A2ASince the discovery of the Higgs boson and other advancements in the search for the theory of everything, I would never say it that way. For many religious people I have even worse news. The eternal omnipresent source of everything is real. As in knowable by the laws and theories of physics and mathematics real. The problem for many religious people is that background potential that can allow a universe (possibly multiple universes) to emerge from what we call nothing (See the book, A Universe from Nothing) will not conform to their images of God. A made up God can be pushed and twisted into the forms claimed by magic, superstition, or people who say they are prophets. A real God discoverable within the study of natural occurrences will not conform to such images.I call this new understanding of the ultimate source and power of all things Unified Field Theology, and have just published it with Wipf & Stock. It is available now.So, I when she shows the sophistication to understand, I would tell her that people’s constructions of reality are just that constructions. They can change and grow or be proven completely false, but they are real only in the minds of those who believe them. I would make sure she learns the science that will allow her to appreciate the wonder of a universe and background field that do not require magic as a source or an explanation.

How do I get my mom to let me play Red Dead: Redemption?

Okay so first of all I bought the game and played it myself. I am sixteen and a couple months shy of just flashing my I.D. and being able to buy the game anyway. I went to the midnight release waited in line, called my dad, I showed my receipt, the guy said, "Is this your parent?" I said yes and he handed me the game.

My brother tried getting MW2 before with a parent and the shop owner read the label off so I am sure it is different in different places.

Here is what I have learned about the rating by playing the game!
It is called Red Dead Redemption for a reason. You aren't going back into a life of crime you are running away. John Marston is a man being forced by the government to hunt and kill an outlaw he once knew to save his family. He has a wife and kids and is trying to redeem his past. In the beginning of the game a man talks about how beautiful the ladies are in Armadillo and he says, "I am a married man there won't be any girls for me." I think the approach of good guy killing bad and evil people works a little better than telling her that you are killing innocents, getting drunk and having sex.

Bluntly it is what it is.
There is a bar in this game so drinking is there. You can kill people and there is blood. I saved a strumpet from getting raped so there is sex. I saw a full frontal nudity of two dead corpses so there are boobies...and a penis. Also I played the game without hearing a swear for 3 hours.

I would feel comfortable playing this game in front of my parents without much trouble save for maybe the blood. But on the bright side of things you only have 2 years left till you can do it without a parent anyways so hang in there. Hope this little review helped and good luck!

How old would your child have to be before letting them watch Avatar?

Did no one think that Avatar is at all violent? What about all the fighting, tearing down of the trees, blowing things up? Didn't you feel the militaristic part of the film was too violent for young kids? Or has our society become so numbed to violence we don't even see it anymore?

I personally wouldn't let a child under 8 or 10 watch it. It was rated PG-13 for a reason, you know.

What do you think of under 18′s playing video games above their age?

One can view the age rating of media one of two ways: an enforced restriction that disallows people under those ages to experience that media, or information for parents and guardians to make informed decisions on the media consumption of their children. Most people appreciate that the first position is rather unrealistic, and is not something many would agree with as a necessity for a functioning society. Films can be given age ratings for all sorts of odd reasons, some that many parents may not fully agree with. Violence is allowed at a lot lower age than nudity for example, and swearing of various seriousness and types can be permitted under film rating guidelines. So most view the second as the more realistic purpose of age ratings, but that unfortunately requires an informed and pro-active parenting that many (or at least a vocal group) are unwilling to engage in. Films with higher ratings often get complaints from parents about what their child saw because their child wanted to see it. Parents also complain about the games they buy their children being too violent, sexual, or have too much swearing.I played violent games from an early age, but my parents were generally informed on what I was buying, and as someone who has played games for a long time the games that my hypothetical children could play would be screened based on what I feel is appropriate for them at any given moment in time. The problems that occur from minors playing games above their age rating, mostly come from a disengaged parent not appreciating or understanding what is going on, or a lack of supervision of what they are doing when they play games, i.e. the young children you hear on Call of Duty throwing out racial slurs and threatening to rape people.

Should Left 4 Dead 2 be an M?

The 16 year old son should be able to play it but I highly suggest not letting your 13 year old play it yet. The same goes for Left 4 Dead 1. The 16 year old is almost at the age where he's able to play it "legally" by himself anyway so I wouldnt worry too much about him.

Left 4 Dead 2 is where you have to work together with others to survive a zombie infection, so it has good cooperative play which MAY teach some togetherness values. However, the thing is, its zombies. You have to kill undead and lots of blood can be seen (except in the Australian version) and limbs will be falling off the zombies. How will you be killing the zombies? With a various array of guns, from shotguns to magnums. Kids will learn what guns are good for what. But thats not all you can kill with, you can kill with bats, swords, even a frying pan. Oh yeah and theres some sarcastic comments and some cursing.

Im not saying this to shun the game for life but know older kids like your 16 year old will know that killing is bad and all that stuff is wrong, probably just playing it to get some stress out and whatnot. However your 13 year old might not know any better. Just saying.

Oh and uh you might not wanna let them play online too much because there are some pretty ignorant people on there that may berate your kid and might get his feelings hurt. Just a warning
