What American Snacks Don

What are some snacks/candy they have in America and not Japan?

I'm sending my penpal a package, and I don't know what snacks I should include. I've heard Japanese people as well as people from other countries don't like American chocolate because it's too sweet (also I don't want it to melt) so are there any other snacks I could send?

What american snacks do people from China enjoy?

Four big junk food chains are very popular in China: KFC, McDonalds, Burger King and Pizza hut. Of these KFC is by the most popular by a mile. It is really hard for an American to understand just how popular fried chicken is in China. As well as thousands of official KFC outlets, there is a myriad of copycat shops selling various fried chicken products.Several American candy brands can be found commonly such as Mentos, Halls, Hershey’s chocolate, M&M’s, Dove chocolate, Oreo, and Snickers. Some other answers mentioned Mars bars but I have only seen them in the larger cities. I used to see Mars everywhere 12 years ago, but they faded from view. It seems that Snickers are more popular than Mars. Chinese people do like nuts. They put peanuts in everything.Chinese people like chewing gum. Wrigglies gum is on sale in every shop. Many American potato chip brands are easily found such as Lays and Pringles. There are many Chinese copycat version of these too. Doritos can be found in bigger cities or in some specialist shops but I can’t buy them reliably and they don’t see to be that popular with my Chinese friends. In recent years, the Chinese potato chip brands have been capturing more of the market.Soft drinks are common. You’ll find Coca-cola, Pepsi, Fanta, Sprite, 7-up, et al, everywhere. What you won’t find is a choice of sugar free versions. There will be Pepsi Max and Coke Zero but it’s not so easy to find Diet Coke or Pepsi. Last year, Coca-cola tried to introduce Cherry Cola — it didn’t prove that popular. Now it is very hard to find on the shelves. However, some special flavours did take off, such as Lemon Pepsi.Aside form the brands owned by the two big names of Coca-cola and Pepsi, you’ll only find Chinese drinks. There is no Dr Pepper, no Mountain Due, and noStarbucks style coffees are quite popular. You’ll be able to get a late, cappuccino, or mocha in any city. The quality will vary quite considerably. Don’t be surprised in your mocha comes with cake topping instead of cream. Also, your barista might be surprised that you want the coffee hot! Iced coffee is very popular in summer.Several American ice cream brands have become popular in China. Chief among them is Haagen Daz. This is sold at extortionately high prices. It can cost US$10 for a 4 fl oz tub. You’ll also see Magnum popsicles.

What are some shippable American snacks and treats that are not available in Japan?

Since you want “shippable” and it’s summer as of the time I’m answering this question, I’ll avoid mentioning anything chocolate. That will just melt. But these are a few of the things I sometimes request from family in the U.S.:Cool Ranch DoritosTwizzlersGoldfish crackersGingerbread or carrot cake mix

What kinds of American snacks can't be found in Taiwan?

I don't know if these are a local candy or just East coast, but when I was in studying at NYU there was a convenience story near my dorm that sold this candy called a Chick-o-stick. It was a roasted peanut butter covered with toasted coconut flakes, it became my comfort food while I was there. Since I have been living in Taiwan I have not seen or heard of this candy being here. I also have not been able to find Baskin Robbins Hard Candies these use to be a favorite of mine when I was in High school.

Basically all your major snacks and candies are going to be sold in Taiwan, so finding things that are localized. If you are sending candies to a friend or family member who is living in Taiwan, you might want to send something like salt water taffies from South Carolina or Georgia, or Bloomers Chocolates I think you can find them only in Ohio, things likes these are good gifts for someone who is living far from home.

I also want to take time to debunk Cultural Ignorance's answer. One Taiwan does have its own varities of Oreo's http://tinyurl.com/TWOreos (blog spot link), you can buy Hershey's Chocolates all throughout Asia and even thought they have a different name you can but Reese's chocolates in Tokyo and other large cities in Japan. Cultural Ignorance enjoy's degrading Taiwan and praising China even though he has never been to either country and will more than likely never go to China and will never set foot in Taiwan.

What american candy can you not get in mexico?

I have never been to Mexico City but I have been to smaller villages. It seems like Mexico has a lot of their own candies and you don't see many of the candies that are available in the US. I'm not sure but I would get skittles, starburst, snickers, Kit Kat,

Maybe if you get the newest types of candies they might not be abroad yet like white chocolate Reecess cups or something like that.

What american food do they not have in France?

Potato chips, other chips, and some other snack foods, like nuts and sweet popcorn, are found in abundance in France. The French tend to snack in a more controlled way than we do, but they do eat snack foods. Specific flavors of chips are different here, though. Some American snacks I haven't seen here: microwave popcorn, pretzels, things like goldfish crackers. Maybe you could bring some of those?

As you noted, chocolate chip cookies like the kind we have in America are not something I've seen here. Actually, none of the cookies like we have in America are a French thing. Their cookies tend to be lighter and crispier, not big and soft. Brownies are another thing that you probably won't see. Or if there are brownies in the store, they are crappy. So any cookie or brownie would be good to make.

Peanut butter and maple syrup are not common food items, but anyone who wants to find them can without trouble. Maple syrup is not a bad idea, as your hosts simply may not have tried it, but you can buy it in France.

The idea that the French are not big pasta eaters, I don't really understand. Pasta is very popular here. However, one pasta dish that is NOT found here is boxed macaroni and cheese. It's one thing that I bring back when I visit the States, as it's convenient and I happen to like it (childhood memories).

Pancakes as someone said are a good thing to make for them, as French pancakes (crepes) are very different. Pumpkin pie is something else you might make, in French cuisine pumpkin is not eaten in a sweet way, it's usually stewed and served as any other squash.

Hmmm ... other ideas maybe depend on where you are from. For example, I'm from Texas and in any normal grocery store there you'll find a large variety of salsas and authentic BBQ sauces. In France I've only seen one type of salsa (not the best) in non-specialty stores, same with BBQ sauce (also not the best). My point is that you may bring something like that, and even if it's something they have had it before, it may be so different that it's almost like a completely new experience.

I hope that helps! Good luck!
