Can normal people live in Beverly Hills?

You don't have to be a "celebrity" but you must have enough money to afford those houses and the daily living that the population is accustomed to.

All the celebrities live very secluded lives. It's funny but, in Beverly Hills, not many people know their own neighbors. Talk about a "Private life huh!

A $2.5 million dollar home is not much. It usually is a two-bedroom house. I am not kidding. Something a little bit larger is going to start at $3.5 million. If you want to live next to a star, think at least $5 million.

Most of the time, the people that used to live there, have moved to another cities like Malibu and northern LA.

In fact, RODEO DRIVE is home to the single most expensive store in the world: Bijan (at 420 Rodeo Drive). How can people afford to live in Beverly Hills, and what do they do for a living?

Well many are extremely well off of course, most are well off, and actually with a bit of luck and work, there are very (LA at least!) competitive rents…We actually sold our House in the Hills, moving to Beverly Hills when we figured out that the $2200 for a very decent 3 bedroom Mid Century Duplex was as nice as our house, closer to work and we could keep our younger daughter in very good schools for virtually nothing, while where we had lived basically required a $30–40 thousand a year Private School! And in theory at last we could Bank the difference in our mortgage and our rent…we lived in Beverly Hills for a over a decade, my daughter graduated d with honors and in AP Calculus, French and English!Yep, one of our few smart financial decisions we ever made…one last point, in our industry our gross income varied from middle class to top 5% down to broke and back up again, and still does at times, so moving to 90211(no, not 90210, we lived Athens Slums of Beverly Hills) saved my kids education IMHO!

Why do so many rich people live in Beverly Hills?

Cause the houses are FRIKKIN’ AWESOME man. Although, Bel Aire and -well, a lot of places all around L.A. are truly spectacular, all the way out to Malibu and Santa Monica. We’re not including the Vernice Beach area, right? But Redondo Hills has some really honk-worthy homes, and I know some “names” who live out there. But who doesn’t want the Zip Code 90210? Actually, there has been significant development west of L.A. in the Nuveaux Riche niche, but I think, if you’re established, you want the distinction. I also have many actors, writers, and directors who can afford to but specifically choose not to live in Beverly Hills. And with traffic and construction on Crescent Avenue, and someone with a camera every three feet (really, take a picture of a store-front?), and goshdarn Waze screwing up all the roadways for those “don’t work there but gotta get home fast in my impressive car” types practically clogging traffic at some placed (Canyons, Santa Monica (66) and Wilshire, and Beverly Glen Drive up to Mulholland - and Mulholland itself, and then the overcrowding of homes, once you get above the flats, (really? 17 bedrooms and a Servant Area, and Guesthouse, with pool, and jacuzzi and water features, with tremendous landscaping and the obligatory gate [Disclaimer: our house came with one] with a security station if you’re really pretentious? Right over the top of my house? [It’ll never get passed]). I was out by Camarillo the other day just looking around on a whim, and there are some new construction projects that are nice. Some truly gauche, IMHO. but generally would be considered elaborate.

Growing up in beverly hills?

The show is written by people in their 30s & 40s who most likely did not grow up in Beverly Hills. They are writing for the sake of drama, not reality, and the show is just a caricature of life in Beverly Hills.

I lived in BH for ten years and my best friend and boyfriend live there. None of us are the over-indulged, obnoxious shopaholics we're stereotyped as being. Many of the kids in BH go to private schools, and many go to BHHS, which despite the person above me who claimed public schools are the worst is actually one of the highest ranked high schools in the nation (Go Normans!) and USC is a popular choice for a lot of people. It's actually a very selective, highly-ranked university with great facilities, so it's more than a party school or the preppy University of Spoiled Children. One of the main reasons my friends have gone there is because they love living in LA and don't want to move elsewhere. It also has the best film school and awesome music programs.

As for the Greek thing..... it's kind of mixed. I have friends who are so anti-rah-rah Greek, and then some who love it. My boyfriend is a sophomore at USC & in a frat, but a lot of his friends aren't.

What kind of jobs do the people that live in Beverly Hills have?

People around my neighborhood live mysterious lives. I only see a few going to “appointments” though I go to “work.” They disappear for hours behind closed doors where I can’t imagine what’s going on in those private places. I do know that I use my kitchen, my bathroom, and my bedroom properly.

What is it like to live in Beverly Hills, CA?

I write as a second generation product of Beverly Hills, having graduated, like my Father, from Beverly Hills High, and El Rodeo Elementary (He graduated from Buena Vista, also BH). My parents also met there, and I went back (to LA) for 6 years after college. In some ways it is no different than living in any other large city, congested, expensive, full of opportunities for a multitude of experiences. in Los Angeles, of which Beverly Hills is just a small suburb, it also depends perhaps more than in other places on what you do, how wealthy you are, and what you look like. Most important, it matters what matters to you, and how lucky you are. You may note I make no mention of talented, because it is FULL of talented losers, and talentless stars. Most who live there, especially those born there, are no different than those you'd find elsewhere . Those with “"big ambitions , are assholes, just like everywhere else. The problem is, BH is a magnet for ambition, big and small. Being born there taints you with it, and most who go there, come for it. Most will fail. Which feels bad, but is hardly the worst thing to ever happen. Fame and fortune have NEVER made anyone happy who wasn't already, and never having them have not made happiness impossible for anyone. But, LA has a way of making you feel like everyone else is going to a better place, doing something more important, for more money, with more interesting people, than you ever will. In LA (or Beverly Hills), no matter your address, income, or friends, you always feel a little bit uglier, poorer, dumber, fatter, and less successful than you should be.It’s official motto should be this quote from Oscar Wilde, “There are only two great tragedies in life. The first is not getting what you want. The second, is getting what you want.”

How can I live in Beverly hills if im not rich?

Ah, the Golden triangle. Contrary to popular belief...living in Beverly Hills does not require you to be rich, especially since the definition of "Rich" depends greatly from person to person. Their are areas on the skirt of the city where there are apartments that rent for as low as $2,000.00 per month. Of course, they may not be vacant often and if ever, they go like hot cakes so to speak. If $2,000.00 is still above your budget, you can work for a family and possibly be put up in their guest home. Many guest homes in Beverly Hills have separate entrance/exits from the main house as the estates North of Sunset are rather large in comparison to the homes South of Sunset.I speak from experience as I studied in Westwood which is just a stones throw from Beverly Hills and during my years in college I did in fact live both adjacent and within the Beverly Hills City limit, both North and South of Sunset; Camden to be precise. The shops and restaurants in Beverly Hills are not unlike many across the country with the exception of maybe a handful that have very expensive menus and price tags on their goods and services.M Joseph Miller IIM & A Legal Management6655 W> Sahara Ave Ste B200Las Vegas, Nevada 89146millerslegal.com(888) 449-5841

Is it true that some parts of Beverly Hills are poor?

What I mean is are there impoverished, or poor, neighborhoods in Beverly Hills (CA) according to us normal middle-class types in the real world, not according to the mega-rich person in Beverly Hills who has a huge mansion, and thinks some of the smaller mansions and nice, luxurious houses down the road from him are just horrible! I've heard that Beverly Hills actually has some areas that most "regular" people would think of as poor, but Beverly Hills itself isn't too big so I don't see how that could be true! Thanks for responding.
