What Are Chances Of Northwest Central Ohio Having

Living in Columbus, Ohio

if you want to live near the airport I would suggest gahanna (where the airport is) or maybe even upper arlington (a 15 min drive to the airport) there are a lot of apartments in ua for rent. I would avoid hilliard, dublin, delaware, or grove city because they are growing very rapidly and the taxes are high. Another option is clintonville (a neighborhood in columbus near high street) which is cheap but a nice area

What was the success of the Articles of Confederation?

The Articles of Confederation are so glossed over in most people's education that some hardly realize they exist.  Simply saying they were a miserable failure hardly does the document justice.  This was after all a document written by the very same group that would write the Constitution.  They weren't stupid.  But in coming from a tradition of European feudalism, absolute monarchy, and tyranny, they erred on the side of less government their first time out of the gate. The single greatest success of the Articles of Confederation is the founding of the Nation of the United States.  Yes, I know we celebrate the Declaration of Independence as the founding of the nation, but in reality the Declaration simply tells Britain the Colonies are independent, it does nothing to describe the form of government, the colonies would adopt, what they were going to call themselves or how they were going to conduct themselves as a country.  The Articles do those things.  It establishes a Perpetual Union between the states named in the document, and gives that Union a name: The United States of America. These two things endure. It was also under the Articles of Confederation that the War for Independence was fought.  That government successfully prosecuted a war with the British.  It successfully negotiated an alliance with France.   It successfully negotiated the terms of independence from Britain in the Treaty of Paris. In peacetime, the Congress successfully passed the Northwest Ordnance, which organized the territories and set the template for statehood.  It allowed those Territories to organize their own governments. it described the process for eventual admission of new states to the Union of no more than five states, and no fewer than three, “on an equal footing with the original states.” The Ordnance also banned slavery from the region.  Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, all are states under this ordnance. So as deeply flawed as the Articles of Confederation were, it still resonates within the Constitution today.  The Nation, founded by the Articles of Confederation was not replaced by the Constitution, simply made "more perfect."

Why did the United states want to buy the Louisiana territory?

Good Question!!!!

Napoleon Bonaparte had recently purchased the vast territory of Louisiana in a secret deal with Spain. He was entertaining thoughts of colonizing the middle of the North American continent.

Jefferson became aware of this shortly after his first term in office. Needless to say he was greatly disturbed by the prospect of having this large French "country" next door to the United States.

In particular he was concerned about the likelihood of losing access for commercial use to the Mississippi river which would be effectively cut off by French control over New Orleans.

He sent James Monroe to Paris with specific instrucations to try and buy New Orleans and West Florida from France for 2 million dollars, or more if necessary.

Napoleon was involved in a rather bloody slave rebellion in Santo Domingo. Napoleon Strapped for cash due to his loses in both men and money. Signaled that he would be willing to sell not only New Orleans, but the land that would ultimatly become the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kanasas, Nebraska, and South Dakota, plus large sections of North Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.

James Monroe and Robert Livinston closed the deal on the spot. Exceeding their mandate. Jefferson was quite pleased with the outcome of the deal. Even though it went far beyond his orginal intent. There were Constitutional questions invloved. Some of the federalist in congress were upset about the price and did declare it unconstitutional as well as an extravagent use of the public coin.
