How did the Greek civilization contribute to the Western civilization?

The Ancient Greeks' contributions to Western Civilization are so numerous that we can only really talk about a very few of them here…Thales of Miletus is known as the first philosopher in the Greek tradition, and he is otherwise historically recognized as the first individual in Western civilization known to have entertained and engaged in scientific philosophy. In mathematics, the Greeks contriubted to us the work of people like Eucild and Archimedes and Pythagoras in geometry and other forms of math.In the area of social sciences, Herodotus is known as the father of history as an academic discipline because he introduced the idea of a rational study of history (as opposed to a more mythological approach). Thucydides carried his work farther and is one of the most important historians ever.Literary works of Homer and Sophocles also greatly influenced the subsequent writers.Ancient Athens, of course, is generally seen as the birthplace of democracy. We still look back to Socrates, Plato and Aristotle as important thinkers on ethics and social issues. All of these, and many more, are contributions to Western Civilization that have come from the Ancient Greeks.[1]Footnotes[1] https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=...

Did Ancient Greece had a great civilization? explain?

Yes

The invented democracy
They fought off the Persian Empire, and potentially stopped it from taking over the rest of Western Europe
Their cultural legacy from the Classical and Hellenistic periods heavily influenced Roman, and then Renaissance art, and arguably has shaped the West's artistic agenda completely
The Greek language heavily influenced the Latin language, which in turn influenced most of the major European languages in a major way
Greek literature is still considered some of the most compelling ever written, and influenced later writers such as Shakespeare (E.g. Homer, Aristophanes, Aeschylus etc)
Greek Philosophers shaped the conciousness of Western thought and early science (Sokrates, Archimedes, Plato, Aristotle etc)
Greek pottery is an integral tool used in dating ancient archaeology, and without it we would struggle to put dates on many, many artefacts

And loads more things! I don't know if this answers your question?

Although I'm not a fan of the Ancient Greeks, all their best stuff they just nicked from the Near East... Hahah!

Hope this helps in some way :)
