What is a good character's name for my book?

Popular boys names in the late 1990s were names like Cody, Kyle, Austin, Tyler, Brandon, Zachary, Justin among the more traditional names like Christopher, Michael, Andrew, Michael, David.  Top name for boys those years was Michael, which could allow for lots of nicknames. The city is 70% Caucasian, so he'd be from a white family likely, but you'd be mistaken about "worker" family, it's a very expensive city to live, among the most expensive in the country so he'd be more upscale, more privileged - the median home prices are around $2million. His dad would probably be in the tech industry, medical or real estate. I'm betting dad's a realtor, that would allow for the kid to have more free time on his own. So, I'd name him something along the lines of Kyle Jeffords, or Christopher Sutton, Michael Bennett, Zachary Tyler. Just food for thought, since you've picked such a distinct geographic region, the name should fit.source demographic Los Altos, Californiasource names Top names of the 1990s

How do I create good character names?

Well.... you can take a page from a master... J.R.R Tolkien. This might sound... involved, but it could pay off in big ways.Create your own language.  Keep track of it... like a dictionary excel file.  Then, you can base names on words you've created.  I mean, the origin of the last name Cooper... someone who makes barrels.  How about Baker... I wonder what that family did way back when.  I know that sounds simplistic...... but if your characters come from a harsh community, almost barbaric on the frontier, they might have a harsh language.  Something guttural... like Klingon or German.  Many hard consonants, K's and such.  From this hard language, you can then develop names that sound like your fictional words.Garen Tokaan, from the Tokaari clan, was raised to be the fourth generation of Tokaaris farmer in his district.  He was proud of his father, Gu'Klar and the farm he had helped build over the years.

What are good character names for an antihero?

By antihero, I'm assuming you mean the Holden Caulfield type? I'd go with a name that's uncommon or unique, butin a way that makes it seem counter-culture (that's what an anti-hero is after all, right?) rather than badass. An antihero displays flaws that a typical hero wouldn't, so you almost have to ascribe a name to the character that somehow implies these flaws. Easier said than done.I once wrote a short story about a character named Syler that essentially got me into the creative writing department at Princeton. You can borrow that one.Other ideas off the top of my head:DempsyHalWilly RykerWellsSamson
