Any good names for a fictional city?
I'm writing a novel and I can't think of a name for a city and what state it should be in. This city is close to the forest and it is very cloudy there. It doesn't rain a lot. It does take place in the USA. Any suggestions?
Good fictional city name?
Caido Estrellas Reino de la Mar En Oro Cancion de la Mar I picked a couple of Spanish phrases; since your fictional city is in California, it makes sense. Most of the big cities in California were founded by the Spanish explorers when they were searching the new World for the City of Gold, so they have Spanish names (Los Angeles, for example). I know you said not to name it after an existing place, but I figured that, geographically and historically it would be probable, so it would make the city a little more credible. Hope you don't mind. The names above mean "Fallen Stars", "Queen of the Sea", "Of Gold" (after aforementioned City of Gold), and "Song of the Sea", respectively.

What's a good name for a fictional city?
Depends what the city is like, take a careful look at it. Is it abandoned and gloomy? Or is it the perfect city, all happy and carefree? Or even, take a look at the residents there. Maybe take some inspiration from them. Or you can even look at real city names for ideas. (Don't steal though!)
What are some good names for a fictional modern city?
When it comes to naming your own fictional cities or locations I always tend to using foreign languages and even sometimes names of deities from our civilization (Egyptian) or maybe similar civilizations (Babylon, Persian, Assyrian…etc)So here are some suggestions that might suit the ambiance of your city:Aleyat: High in Arabic.Omran: Means construction in Arabic.Azdehar: Prosperity in Arabic.Bonyan: Means buildings in Arabic.Sahab: Means clouds in Arabic.Sama: Sky in Arabic.Nahda: Renaissance in Arabic.Taylan: Means “High” in Greek.Alissa: The Protector of Humanity.Tarja: Owner of Goodness.Hydrous: God of Water. That’s all I could come up with now, best of luck!

What is a good name for a fictional Asian city or city state like Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, or Seoul?
You first have to determine whether this Asian city state is culturally Southeast Asian or East Asian. But you should have known their differences anyway. If it is Southeast Asian, the name of the city should be based on Sanskrit language. It is because most of Southeast Asian is highly influenced by Indian culture.if it is East Asian, the name of the city has to be writeable by Chinese characters ( So it could be read in Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, or other East Asian languages.) and more likely to be comprised of two characters. It also has to describe the geographic condition of the city and its surrounding area, say it is located in the western part of the country, it could contain the word “west”, or the political significant of the city. A capital city is more likely to contain the word “capital”.
Fictional city names, please help?
If you want people to get a new feeling with a new city other than new york its advisable to use another city. Maybe you could name it something like Acervus which is tooo obvious since it means dark in Latin but you could probably name the city Alveus which is Hollow in Latin. Hope i helped and good luck with your story! :)
