What Are Good Mods For Muscle Cars

Whats a good first car that is a muscle car?

You have named some costly cars depending on what quality they're in. If you plan on fixing it up pick one of the big name cars you named like a charger, chevelle, camaro, mustang, challenger, firebird/trans am, and GTO. This way there are plenty of parts. Now if you buy those to get them inexpensive buy non SS, Z28, R/T, Fastback, Mach 1, Boss, Or even GT. By staying away from those you can get the cars cheaper and then put an engine of your choice in to improve the performance to your liking, plus the badging is cheap and looks real even to experts. Now if you want a mint muscle car for a good price get one form 1971+ the performance stock wise drops but most of the time now a days they're are running faster than the late 60s and 1970 models because of the easy mods people did. My choice was a 1972 Camaro, it happened to be a Z28 but i got it at a good price, I paid $3000.00 for it in excellent body shape just in need of paint, put a supercharged 502 in it cost me $5000.00. Now thats 3x the performance of a 1969, almost as good looking and a 3rd of the price. Another note for you if you don't know cars an old muscle car will be a challenge for you because they are so different from newer cars. I have restored 12 cars since I was 16 till now (12 cars) so I will put price info in sources for you. Good luck, maybe one of my examples will be you first car :) I used craigslist just to show how easy it is to find one there, but I suggest looking on more muscle car sales sites.

Muscle cars VS Jap cars?

Answer all depends on which cars really as often the comparisson is made between American Muscle against Japanese small cc cars, which is fair as those small cc Japanese engines can produce some serious bhp and credit due to the tuners.

Other factors are,Japanese cars where sold Worldwide where high fuel cost mixed with high tax and insurance and even with Japan having top mph limits and bhp lmits until January 2005,hence small cc cars where built and again credit due as Japanese makers produced such great tunable engines so overcome these limits for the owners.

So often stock Japanese figures are an unfair figure due to the engines being detuned IE Skyline GTR Supra TT top Japanese bhp 276 although came out on the dyno as 330bhp,but even that was a detuned figure, with running on stock internals both run around 600bhp,and well over 1000bhp with mods.

So again do we class a detuned engine against a tune engine for results,as that would be like racing a 4 legged horse against a 3 legged horse and i am sure even American Mucle car fans would not feel that was fair to get a win ubder those circumstances.

Also the v8 issue Japanese car makers also produce v8 engines.

Imports vs muscle cars?

I dont know much about cars but im curious as to what the difference is between modding a tuner vs muscle. On tuners, I hear about turbos and nos and names of different motors and stuff and swapping... but wut is modded to the v6s and v8s in muscle that make them faster? Wuts done to both that make them faster? Just wanna better my knowledge. Thanks for the answers

What is your favorite muscle car and why?

I have had the opportunity to drive many of the best from the muscle car era (basically 1965–1971) including early GTO’s, AMX’s, Z-28’s, GS400, Firebird 400, Camaro SS396, Chevelle 396/454, Cougar 302/351, Mustang 289/302, Cobra 289/427, 442’s, and a few others. The most exciting one to drive- for me, was a fully tricked out 1969 Camaro Z-28 4 speed. A full blown race car in street legal form, it was rated at 290 hp, but was in truth more like 400 plus hp at the rear wheels with the dealer installed mods. High revving and scary fast…also while not a muscle car per se, had a 69 Thunderbird with the 429 engine- massive torque for a massive car, that engine was sweet. (476 foot lbs torque at 2800 rpm, 360 hp), comparable-or close- to the all time muscle car torque champ= to Buick GS 455. Remember, torque is for acceleration; horsepower is for speed.

Is a dodge viper a muscle car or tuner?

a viper is a factory muscle car, they come well equipped to run speeds in excess of 130 + so there not tuners, tuners can be made to run good, when you set down in a viper you don't have to add anything,it comes ready to run, those cars don't like being drove around town in slow speeds, they was made to run good at high speeds, here a good link to them and what they are all about, good luck.http://www.allpar.com/model/viphist.htm
