What Are My Chances Being Successful With A Degree In Illustration And In Creative Writing

What creative profession would you enter and why?

I would love to be a professional model / model railroad designer-builder... and add to it a store / production facility.

I've been building models for almost 40 years now... from the days of balsa, glue, and tissue paper to now where I CAD draw a model and turn it out on a CAD machine with injection molding for "mass production"

While I agree that video games can be "creative"... I think kids / young adults need to get off their butts and BUILD something !!

Building models as a child / teen led me into a 26 year career in US Naval Aviaton... and the skills learned there gave me my current "semi-retirement" career as a rancher / farmer / vinter.

When we built our house 8 years ago on our ranch... one of the things I designed in was a 60x60 foot basement for my "dream" model railroad layout and modelling / micro-machine shop. Just wish I could make a living at it !

Are STEM majors really much more difficult to complete than non-STEM majors?

Yes they usually are. 1. STEM majors have to spend much more time on average studying and also doing labs and homework for many of their classes. Many non STEM major classes might also involve long assignments but these usually detail essays or other assignments where the teachers might be more subjective in grading them versus STEM assignments where professors care a great deal about if you got the right answer and showed your work to arrive at the solution.2. People who struggle at math will find STEM majors really hard to complete. Most majors in the STE part of STEM will involve having students take a few Math courses and some people often refuse to get a major in STEM because of the math requirements for that major. Some people will want to just take the one required math course that the college or university requires for all students and then be done with it.3. Others have mentioned that if STEM majors screw up, the consequences are severe. This is true. If I screw up writing software and release the faulty product to the public, users will be frustrated if the software has many bugs or if it can't even be used. Given where I work, military pilots could fail to accomplish their missions and that leads to more people dying or a longer war. If a non STEM major screws up by writing a bad book, the bad book won't be responsible for killing off a lot of people or for preventing people from getting their jobs done.4. Finally, many people care a great deal about grades and grade point averages, and they usually get better grades in non STEM majors. If someone wants to go on to get a graduate degree or even a PHD at some point, they want to have great undergraduate G.P.A to be competitive for selection to the program. If you want to get a Master's degree in a STEM subject, you have to have gotten a bachelor's degree in a related field or else you have to take a few remedial course to prove you understand the subject. If someone wants to get an M.B.A for example, they may not want to waste their time in a STEM major when they could get a business degree where they will have better grades and a G.P.A to apply for one.

Fashion design vs. Medicine.?

gildersleeve is right, medicine will always be in demand. and (depending on which profession in the medical field you choose if you choose that field) you will almost definitely get a job. what area of medicine were you thinking of going into? because if you're just a physician or a nurse that works in a department where you're not seeing seriously wounded patients or something like that, you won't have to deal with the sadness. however, if you're a surgeon or something like that, then you will have to deal with the sadness. also, if you're planning on being a mother, then the medical field is a good option because you can reach as high as you want when you're getting your degrees and such, but if you want a less advanced job, you can just level down. you also would have an advantage because you are qualified.

fashion design is a very competitive profession. you have to literally be the best. and if people don't like your taste or whatevs, then you are out of a job. it is a much more exciting profession though, and if you have good chance, you could potentially become super rich and be real famous. but thats a slim chance that you would have to be willing to risk.

you are obviously a very good student, and so i would personally go more for medicine. however, i am partial to that because thats what i plan on going into. whatever you decide, i wish you success and happiness ;)

Why do people want to be a fashion designer?

Freedom to express creativity make a lot of people wanting to be a fashion designer. For me I became one cos there are a lot of thing I will like to change about clothing and design. At a point I don’t like what I get from my local tailor and something in me kept pushing that there is more to do in creating a better outfit for people so I decided to try it out.
