What Are My Chances Of Getting Into Medschool In Canada

Do I have a chance of getting into medical school in Canada with a 3.85 GPA?

Well, it depends. How did you do on your MCAT? Medical school admissions take many things into account, with GPA being just one of them. You may be concerned about being slightly below average on GPA - but truthfully, any brown-nosing student can fake their way through undergrad and get the grades. Getting good marks on all sections of the MCAT is a whole other deal. There's no faking it on that exam. Aside from that, you have letters of recommendation, the Casper personality test, personal statement, and extracuriculars. The bottom line is, a slightly below average GPA will not make you inadmissible by itself. The sum of your GPA and the other factors will dictate this for you, to determine how you will stack up against other applicants.

What are my chances of getting into medical school in the US?

I agree with James Pan, you can be considered  for now "somewhat competitive", although you'll have to wait & see for your MCAT. It's going to come down to an evaluation of your personality/character/motivations from the experience descriptions on your app, your rec letters, your personal statement & secondaries. They're looking for AAMC Core Competencies, your personal voice & your passion. Things you can do to better convey these traits:-Make sure your rec letters come from professors/supervisors/advisors who really know you and can speak for your character. -Start working on your personal statement soon. Unless you're an elegant & articulate writer who can churn out an excellent personal essay quickly (you might be), it's going to take many many revisions -You can start working on secondaries too if you want; you can lookup the questions on studentdoctor for each school, they don't change much year to year. Many secondary questions can be modified for other schools too (they often fall into one of several categories).Good luck!

Will being gay restrict my chances of getting into medical school in Canada?

A2AProbably not. I live in Northern Ireland. Gay marriage is illegal and surprisingly many educated people defend bakers who refuse to serve gays. There are lot of gay people in my class. I suspect your sexual orientation doesn't come up during the interview process. If it does if in the pocket of medieval thinking that Northern Ireland is gays don't struggle being accepted into medical school I doubt you would have many problems in the progressive country Canada seems to be.

Getting into medical school?????

I was accepted a few months ago and will be starting this fall. My stats are pretty average: BA in Human Bio, MCAT 28, GPA 3.86, volunteered for 1.5 years at a free clinic, worked as a medical assistant for about 1 year, ESL, played the piano for almost 10 years. I had strong letters of recommendation (LOR), and a very good (well, personal opinion) personal statement. What you hear all the time is how they (admissions committee) want well-rounded applicants so it's good to have some interests outside of medicine, and show committment. Having solid clinical experience is VERY IMPORTANT since they want to know you really know what you're getting into. Knowledge of current issues in medicine, etc. The best you can do is apply as soon as you can (I think they open the AMCAS app on June 1st or around that time), and start writing the personal statement EARLY because it can take some time (I bought a book and checked some sites online like essayedge-i do not endorse them-for tips on writing that monster). Also start chasing your recommenders early because some tend to take their sweet time to write the LOR, and some don't even bother to do it. Read the specifications for LOR's for the schools you are applying to (I had like 7 letters: 1 Physics, 1 Bio, 1 Organic Chem, 1 Ethics, 1 Anthropology, 1 from my employer and 1 from the clinic I volunteered at). Read the pre-requisited they ask for so as not to have unpleasant surprises later in the process. If you are invited to an interview, be enthusiastic and well prepared! Practice, practice, practice. Some are relaxed, others aren't.
I applied to 17 schools but sent secondary apps to only 13. I applied to 3 dream-schools. Got 6 interviews but I went to only 2 (got into my first choice, luckily!). Get those secondaries sent out fast, don't sit on them like I did ;) And send thank-you notes to your interviewers (I sent them by e-mail and it worked)
You'll hear it's a random process, it certainly seems that way. But really really APPLY EARLY (that can't be emphasized enough) and proofread. Let me know if you have any more questions, and best of luck!

Chances of getting into medical school after academic dishonesty?

It will depend on what college program you choose to apply. Different programs may be less probing of certain charges. However, I would say that staying silent on the matter would not be a good choice. I am not a med student but I know a few people who have recently been accepted, and I know the majority of the entrance decision teeters on integrity. As such, convictions (and possibly even charges) of academic integrity are likely fatal to an application to med school or any other faculty where professional integrity is a must (pharmacy, law, etc.). It is unfortunate that you found yourself in this predicament, and if you have potential to make it into the medical profession (i.e. you have great grades, and are an overall great candidate) you should attempt to make certain that the persons hearing this appeal are aware of your innocence (if that is the case). Good luck.

Getting into Harvard Medical School!?

I eventually want to be a child&adolescent psychiatrist and I'd LOVE to attend Harvard or John Hopkins medical school. For my undergraduate degree, I'd like to attend Princeton to get a BA in psychology with a certificate in neuroscience and a certificate in global health and health policy.
My back-ups are University of Toronto, University of Alberta, Queen's University, Washington, Duke, Stanford and University of Pennsylvania.
I am currently in the IB program (International Baccalaureate) in my school and am doing quite well. I've been in the gifted class since I was in grade 4 and I work hard. I'm only in grade 9 so I know it's early to be thinking of it. In grade 7 I was the production manager on yearbook, and grade 8 I was Editor-In-Chief. I was also on spirit committee, musical and choir. Outside of school I do community plays, and am in a local glee club. In September I'm going to be a member of SAC at my school (Student Council) and would eventually like to be Co-Chief of my school. If I continue my grades and extra-curriculars, do you think I could get into Princeton or one of my back-ups, and then eventually to Harvard or John Hopkins Medical School?
Thank you in advance!

What are the chances of being accepted to medical school with a 3.2 GPA and 510 on the MCAT?

I am always disappointed by this question. First, it is an extremely tiny sliver of your application. What are your extracirriculars? What experiences do you have? What kind of letters of recommendation do you have? And most importantly what kind of clinical experiences do you have? When listening to the Premed Podcast I heard an admissions director for a med school state that lack of clinical experience caused more cuts than low MCAT or GPA when considering a candidate. I wish I could remember which one it was. You need to check out Meded Media - Medical School Headquarters and begin listening though. You honestly should not have to ask this question as there are abundant resources for you to figure this out on your own. It concerns me when someone wanting to apply to medical school asks something that is so easy to figure out as what you are asking. It demonstrates a lack of research ability and confidence - I hope I am wrong about you though. You should already have the MSAR. That is the Medical School Admission Requirements published by the AAMC. It will tell you the GPA and MCAT ranges for every US MD school. Go here and buy it now: https://apps.aamc.org/msar-ui/Also, your MCAT is great. Beginning at 504 and 505 is competitive and some get in with scores as low as in the 480s. Below is an image of the actual GPA and MCAT combinations and the percentage of acceptances and rejections. You will see it is a broad range, so there is much more to your application than merely MCAT and GPA alone. 15% of applicant’s with a GPA above 3.79 and an MCAT above 514 were not accepted.https://www.aamc.org/download/32...Your GPA is low, is that science or cumulative. Why is it 3.2? Did you have an upward trend? Did you do poorly in Latin, Greek, and History classes but excelled in the sciences? Your GPA has a whole story. Finally, if you apply broad and do not ignore DO schools you will get in somewhere I am sure. I mention DO schools because they are just as good as MD schools and adds an additional broad net you can cast in your application. DO schools are not easier to get into than MD schools so do not fall for that falsity.

Is canadian medical school easier to get into then U.S. medical school?

For the most part, Canadian medical school are far more difficult to get into than US medical schools. If you consider the GPA and MCAT averages for matriculates, Canadian students need significantly higher marks than US students: average for Canadian medical schools: http://www.mcattestscores.com/canadianmedicalschoolsmcatscoresGPA.html
Average for US medical schools: http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2007/mcatgpastatemat07.htm

You didn't indicate whether you were a US or Canadian citizen and that would have a significant bearing on you being accepted. Historically, US citizens who study in another country eventually return to the US. As a result, most foreign medical schools do not accept US citizens. That doesn't mean you cannot study in another country, but just that's it's far more difficult to get into the basic medical school. Post-grad education is much easier.
