What Are Safe Foods To Eat When You Have Gastritis

Foods safe for gastritis?

I am 17 and I was diagnosed with gastritis yesterday in the hospital, I am being treated with a Prevacid/Pepto-Bismol combination and I was wondering exactly what is safe for me to eat so my stomach doesn't keep eating away at itself?

I just want to get it straight on a few things, I am getting different answers from different sources.

Meat (Internet says NO, doctor says okay)
Dairy (Internet says NO, doctor says NO)
Grains (Internet says NO, doctor says okay)
Fruits (Variable; which ones are okay? I would think the more 'acidy' ones would be unsafe; ie oranges, pineapple).
Salt (Internet & doctor say NO)

Please help, anything off of the list I would love to hear. I would really like to have a nice temporary diet that doesn't drive me crazy as I go through this.

What food's to eat when you have Gastritis.?

I suffer from Gastritis. You are NOT alone! you wont need to stick to this menu for too long. maybe about 2 or 3 weeks and then gradually start eating normal foods. ill tell you what i did.

I was told to stay away from spicy foods AND greasy foods such as fast food restaurants. Stay away from acidic foods like lemons, oranges, and even soda. what i did for about a year straight was drink only water and milk. that's it. nothing else. and that helped me a lot. Oh and also stay away from coffee and chocolate because they will worsen the symptoms. now, with all of those foods eliminated, i suggest you eat bland foods like chicken noodle soup with a tiny bit of salt. you don't want to over do the seasoning because that will make it worse. also eat things like dry toast, yogurt, milkshakes, etc. any dairy will definitely help. another way to relieve your gastritis is drinking a glass of milk every morning before anything else. that will help coat your stomach. Keep your diet bland for about 3 weeks or until you feel it is safe to eat normally again.

I suffered from pretty severe gastritis a couple of years ago. To help with the recovery you have to eat what is called a “bland diet”.You should avoid:Caffeine: No coffee, tea or sodasAlcoholChocolateVery greasy foodsYou can eat:White riceVegetables (raw or steamed)Low-fat dairySteamed meatFruitFor more info you can have a look at this page or google “Bland diet for gastritis”Diet For Gastritis | Bland Diet Gastritis | Foods For GastritisIn addition to this your doctor might prescribe you some stomach protectors.Get well soon.

Foods Good for Gastritis

Fresh Fruits- Fruits like pears, apples, bananas, berries, and those low acid ones have to be included in your daily diet. Fruits are soothing foods for gastritis, and also fiber-rich, hence, help in making the digestion much easier.
Leafy Vegetables- Leafy vegetables have to be washed properly before cooking. Vegetables like lettuce, spinach, fenugreek, broccoli, etc., contain high dietary fibers and are rich in vitamin K, which help in digestion and in soothing the stomach irritation.
Liquid Foods- Coconut water and carrot juice works wonders for the gastritis condition. It helps in soothing stomach inflammation.
Grains and Cereals- Unpolished white rice not only provides one with energy, but also covers the stomach lining with a gelatinous texture that protects it. Whole grains, wheat bran, oatmeal, etc., are also safe for consumption.
Meat and Dairy Products- Meat and dairy products are not really recommended to include in a gastritis diet, but they are protein rich foods that your body requires. Hence, lean meats, tofu, yogurt and fish of cold water are advisable, but again in small quantities. Don't overeat.
Water- It goes without saying, consume plenty of water everyday. Consume at least 10 - 12 glasses of water everyday. Water not only helps in the digestion, but also helps the body to get rid of various toxins, which in turn would reduce your risk to any infections that could lead to further complication in the gastritis condition.

Make sure you strictly and religiously follow the diet protocols and take your medications for speedy recovery.

What foods can/can't you eat when you have gastritis?

When you are having symptoms of gastritis you need to have a liquid diet for the first couple of days. Then start eating soft foods that are easy to digest. No coffee, soda alcohol, fried foods, or fatty foods. No processed foods. Try to eat light foods and homemade foods. Yogurt is good because it's a prebiotic. You can also eat fruit that isn't very acidic. Make sure you eat small and frequent meals so the acid doesn't affect your tummy. Drink water all day. No spicy foods either. The best exercise is biking and swimming at first and then when you feel better resume your normal workout routine. If you don't have one, create one. It will relieve stress, which is one of the reasons people get gastritis. Get enough restful sleep, at least 7-8 hours. Also, if you smoke, quit. It's so bad for the body in so many ways. Get some rest and relax and hopefully you will feel better soon.

What foods are good to eat when you have gastritis?

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

I have an ulcer and suffer from gastritis, what foods can i eat?

The foods you should eat and those you may need to avoid are listed below. Try to eat the number of servings listed for each food group every day to get a balanced diet.

Eat at regular times each day. Do not divide your food into six small meals unless you have trouble getting enough to eat. Eating too often can increase the acid in your stomach.

Keep your intake of milk and dairy products to 3 servings per day or less. Choose lowfat or fat-free dairy foods whenever possible. This will also help control stomach acid production.

Foods to Avoid

Alcohol, black and red pepper, chilies, chili powder, and hot peppers often irritate the stomach lining. Foods with caffeine can increase the amount of stomach acid. These foods include coffee (regular and decaf), teas, colas, cocoa, chocolate. Avoid or limit these items if they cause you pain.

Limit your intake of tomatoes, tomato juice, peppermint, fatty foods, and citrus juices. If they cause heartburn or pain in your esophagus. You may need to limit seasonings such as onions, garlic, cinnamon, and cloves if they upset your stomach.

Dietary Fiber

Eating high fiber foods does not worsen stomach pain for most people with ulcers or gastritis. High fiber foods include whole grains, cooked dried beans, and fruits and vegetables with peels.

You may notice that some foods cause you to have extra gas. This may include broccoli, cabbage, onions, milk, cooked dried beans and peas, and some fruits. Pay attention to the foods that cause you trouble, and limit or avoid them according to how you feel.
