What Are Some Disabilities That Would Eliminate A Person From Being Eligible For The Armed Forces

Why disabled can't join the military?

We have interpreters for the deaf. And other tech to help out
other handicapped people. My sister was in the Navy and
all she did was type in computer word processor, picked up dead bodies of old people from the Naval Hospitals, and other non war related activities.
Why we have to be 100% healthy to join the military, that doesn't make sense?

Can you collect disability for bipolar if you dont take medication for it.?

Take your medication! Many people with bipolar disorder stop taking their meds when they feel better, but in fact, you must take them for life. There is no cure, unfortunately, and when you feel better you can't just give them up. If your current ones have negative side-effects, try something else.

If you function well without your medication, then no, they will not give you disability. It'll appear as if you do not need it. You've got to prove to them that you cannot function well enough to hold a well-paying job, and if you claim you don't need medication, that will seem hypocritical.

As for "SSI", I'm sorry, I do not know what this is :(

How do I join the military if I have disability?

It all depends on the disability, the meds required if any. The military as a whole doesn't like to have people that are disabled. For example, I have a deformed foot due to a botched foot surgery done by my military doctor. The Army gave me a Medical discharge. Come to find out years later that they could have amputated the toe and I should have been able to run and stay in.During the same time when the surgery happened, There were rumors that the sergeant major of the army had a prosthetic leg and he was able to serve, yet, I was medically discharged. That's the physical side of the house.Regarding mental health side this is another story. If a person with ADHD and takes medication for the condition may not be able to join unless the person has been off their medication for at least a year or two and/or has been cleared by the Military Entry Processing Station (MEPS) doctor.MEPS has a list of mental health and physical disqualifiers. To answer the question can a person join the military with a disability: The simple answer is yes. However, your life may be more difficult than the typical person. For example, if taking tests are more difficult for you or have a hard time memorizing things than the typical person, promotions may be more difficult to achieve.Depending on the branch of service, if you don't make a certain rank by the end of your reenlistment, you will not have the opportunity to reenlist and your career in that branch is over. There are several factors that a person with a disability has to consider when joining the military that a typical person doesn't have to.For anyone with or without a disability that wants to join military needs to take a hard deep look at themselves and ask why and what do I want to get out of the military.Only you can make or break your military experience and it starts with looking into yourself.Good luck and God speed.

Can someone with an auditory processing disorder join the military even though its not really noticeable?

For the Army, if you have been successful in school or work (passed your classes or held a job) within the last year, without an accomodation, then it will not disqualify you. Here is the text from the regulation which governs medical qualification for service:

"2-27. Learning, psychiatric and behavioral disorders

a. Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (314), or Perceptual/Learning Disorder(s) (315) is disqualifying, unless applicant can demonstrate passing academic performance and there has been no use of medication(s) in the previous 12 months.

b. Current or history of academic skills or perceptual defects (315) secondary to organic or functional mental disorders, including, but not limited to dyslexia, that interfere with school or employment, are disqualifying. Applicants demonstrating passing academic and employment performance without utilization or recommendation of academic and/or work accommodations at any time in the previous 12 months may be qualified."

Army Disability Rating for Back Injury?

I am not familiar with the Military disability part of your question as that has come about since I was discharged way back when , but you can file for VA disability up to 180 days prior to discharge by downloading and filling out VA Form 526c . You will need to go to www.va.gov , mouse over veteran services , then click on the " locations " tab , then click on Regional Benefits Offices and a map of the U.S. will pop up , click on the state you intend to live upon discharge for the address to send it to . Then go to www1.va.gov/vso/index.cfm for a list of service organizations chartered by Congress to represent your claim free of charge , ie VFW, DAV , etc. I recommend getting one , otherwise you will likely get the run around . The Military Order of the Purple Heart has represented me since Christ was a corporal and they have done excellent work. Keep in mind that the word " speed " is not always in the VA's vocabulary so be patient . Also, when you are discharged , take a copy of your DD214 and a copy of your medical records ( not the originals ) to your nearest VA Hospital and enroll for medical care . Service connected injuries and meds needed for them receive free medical care . While there , ask for the nearest CBOPC ( community based out patient clinic ) to your home . They do primary care there , some do lab work and x rays also , that could save you some time and trouble down the road. Go to www.va.gov , mouse over veteran services , click on benefits booklet for more VA benefits and programs . I am guessing that the injuries you speak of will bring you a VA rating of 40 to 50 % . In my 42 years of sealing with them I have always been treated with respect and dignity , so treat them as you would want to be treated , no matter how frustrating things may be. Hope this will be of some help to you. Good luck and thanks for serving.

Does the military accept recruits with physical disabilities?

From what I know, having been active duty in the the Navy, the answer is no.BUT as a civilian employee, if you have skills that can be applied to the military or different departments in the Federal Goverment, there’s a good chance you may get hired. I do know that many active duty, that were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, once there were able to pass physical fitness tests of readiness, were allowed to continue their active duty career. If you were to join as an enlisted person in any of the branches of the military, you must show that you are physically fit to serve in any capacity or position they need.it will always be THE NEEDS OF THE MILITARY.If you’re in the Navy, if they call “"General Quarters” you need to run up ladders (steps) as fast as you can to man your Battle Station, during time of war, or just training, you could not do that. The Marines and Army require even a more dificult state of physical fitness readiness to deploy, literally at a moments notice plus carry 60–100 pounds worth of gear everywhere. There are a great many civilian positions in the Federal Government that assist in the military’s readiness and mission. Give that a try, you will find it rewarding because you are assisting the military that protects not only the USA but many other countries around the world.
