What Are Some Drawbacks Of A Highway

What are the disadvantages of building a new highway?

Highways bring lights, noise and pollution. This can all disrupt wildlife's natural wake and sleep cycles, especially birds. More animals are killed on the highways trying to move about on what used to be their roaming grounds. Flooding risks increase because concrete does not absort water like dirt. Highways usually precede further development, and that wreaks havoc on wildlife via habitat destruction.

I hope this helps somewhat.

Edit: yes, good idea suggested by Oikos -check out the DOT (Dept of Transportation) for an EIS (Environmental Impact Statement)

Basically, you are talking about making the interstate all bridge. The cost for an elevated section of 4 lane highway is roughly $50 Million per mile. A 4 lane urban highway, unelevated, is roughly $10 Million per mile.Drainage: All of the drainage from the elevated structure must be contained and redirected. Bridge underdrains generally don’t have large capacity and they are very difficult to maintain. The pipes would be huge and would need to be supported by the bridge, which would make the bridge have to be larger, adding to the cost of the bridge.Illumination (Lighting): You would have to have several service points from the power company on the bridge. The amount of conduit would be enormous. Again, it would be difficult to maintain.Interchanges: Each offramp and onramp would require a sophisticated interchange, adding to the cost exponentially. The distance between them would probably be very far due to costs. This leads to the next category - Emergencies.Emergencies: In the event of an emergency, there is only one way in or out. If you had multi-layered decks, forget about life flight. The time to get emergency crews in and out would be very long and would increase the risk of death in an accident or life-threatening emergency.Falls and over-the-side accidents: given the volume of vehicles using the interstate, the number of falls and over-the-side accidents would increase, thereby likely increasing the rate of deaths.Widening: It costs much more, and is much more difficult to widen a bridge than a roadway to increase capacity. The more I write, the more I see cons than pros. It is just not feasible, or even a good idea.

Belt/ring highways are a really good way to connect all parts of a city with a large amount of surface area.  In Texas this type of highway is very popular because most of our cities are very spread out.  In San Antonio, which covers 412 square miles) we essentially have three ringed highways with linear highways acting likes spokes in a wheel. The first ring surrounds the downtown area (it is actually the convergence of the linear higways in the middle of the city), the middle ring surrounds the older part of SA and the outer ring (the bottom of it isn't shown on this map, but it exists) surrounds the new parts of the city.  There is another outer loop planned to eventually go out even further.

What are some pros and cons for owning a sports car and or a truck?

I had a Nissan 350Z and a Ford F250 4x4 at the same time. Z car was fun to drive, fast, fuel efficient but noisy on the highway. No good for back roads, pot holes, mudding, or hunting. Ground clearance was zero. F250 is diesel, not fuel efficient, will go about anywhere you want. Quieter on the highway than the Z car but not as much fun to drive. I sold the Z car and bought a Jaguar XJR. Now that's a sports car, quiet, fuel efficient, will outrun the Z car hands down (supercharged v8) , and oh so comfortable to drive. Mine is a 2005. List price was $82 k but i bought it for less than you will spend on the challenger new by a long shot. No comparison in quality of car and with a Jag, you will be one of a few instead of one of many. As far as a truck, I would consider the new Ford F series CNG/LNG coming out soon. You can fuel it (natural gas) for about half the price of diesel or gasoline. It will burn n gas or gasoline. Just remember, a sports car will take you someplaces but a truck will take you just about anywhere you want to go. If you can't have both like me, go for the truck!

I want to have a FISH breeding business, but there are some drawbacks, so how can I get into the breeding bus.?

First you are not old enough to sign any contracts. You need to have a breeders license prior to becoming a breeder. Also each and every state has other requirements regarding Ornamental fish. You may want to call your local Chamber of Commerce as well as Ornamental fish Society and your local Department of Labor and Industry.

Breeding fish for money isnt something you do for a while. It is a commitment that cannot be obtained by a 90 gallon tank.

Petco will not be able to buy ornamental fish from you nor will any other store without your license. They are not allowed. The best you can hope for is a store credit. You will also need to have someone over the age of 18 to sign your license's. (Ornamental dealer license is $130 per year, depending on your state a breeders license can run you as much as 5 grand depending on what you are breeding)

Here is a link with the Ornamental fish Int'l addresses for various countries. you can email or call directly and they will give you a list of what you will need.

Cheap fish don't sell on the internet. Why would someone pay 1 per fish plus $4-7 dollars to ship it when they can get the same fish for 1.99 the same day?

You do not have the equipment to raise $80 fish and if you are trying to off them on the internet for $7 +sh Chances are no one is going to buy them thinking there is something seriously wrong. You still would not be able to sell ornamental fish. Technically you are not even allowed to sign a contract for a web page by yourself. Having a FREE web page to sell doesn't look good either.

Getting into breeding isn't with a 10 gallon and a 3 gallon tank. Between housing tanks, breeding tanks, filters water, pumps etc you are looking a a lot more money than you would pay for a 90 alone.

I think you need to find something else to try to raise money. Cutting neighbors grass, a paper route etc. Good luck.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of building highways?

One advantage is that there is faster transportation to previously inaccessible areas, or remote areas.

One disadvantage is that as you get better and better transportation to any given area, there comes with that an increase in traffic and settling (congestion, proxies for disease), mirroring in a way, train tracks in the industrial revolution and riverside cities from before that.

600cc vs. 1000cc, what are some pros and cons of each?

In a racing environment, a 600 takes less strength to ride, because it's lighter. Transitioning a bike from a tight left to a tight right is harder than you would think at triple-digit speeds. Less power also lowers the chances of spinning the rear tire on corner exit and "high-siding." A high-side occurs when you get on the gas too early, or with too much lean angle, and the rear spins and then slides. The natural tendency is to react to the slide by letting off the gas. That causes the rear tire to regain traction, and the rider is thrown into the air as the bike rotates over that point of traction: the tire that just regained grip.

If you're talking about more of a sport-touring bike (Yamaha FZ1 versus an FZ6, for example), then the difference in power and weight still make the 600 "more forgiving," because you have fewer ways to make a mistake.

Where a 1000cc bike can lift the front wheel by accident pretty easily, it's not as easy to make that mistake on a 600cc bike with less power. The same is true of heavier vs. lighter. If you get a heavy bike off-balance, it's harder to hold upright than a lighter bike.

Realistically, most modern 600cc bikes are more powerful than is safe for a new rider. We are spoiled and fooled by technology in America...

Personally, I find that racing 600's is more fun than 1000's. It's easier and cheaper. (not to mention lower insurance, if you're riding on the street).

for a new rider though, look into a smaller bike. a 650cc twin is the absolute largest sportbike I'd consider for a new rider. Even that's more power than you need. Modern "beginner" bikes have as much power as racing bikes from 10 or 20 years ago. How fast are you really planning to go? a 650 twin will hit 60 in 3.5 seconds and do almost 140mph... A liter bike has DOUBLE the horsepower. Where are you going to use it?

What are some pros and cons of the trans Texas corridor?

The idea was to have an expressway for trucks coming North out of Mexico, so they would not impact normal traffic.
Those against this sited the costs, and lose of land for another highway.
The project never got off the ground and was canceled.

There are countless disadvantages of road accidents. The loss of life and injuries are obviously the worst, but there is also an emotional toll that gets taken on by people involved in accidents. Both the physical and emotional suffering can have a domino effect on the rest of someones life. There are countless other things I can list.
