Why are my reflexes so slow even though I play video games? For example, when playing a card game I see an 8 has been played, but I don’t react until it’s too late.

You cannot change your reflex times. Reflex times are determined by the number of neurons in the reflex pathways and the conduction velocities of axons in that pathway. Those are laid out during development and you are stuck with them.What you are really referring to is reaction time. These are voluntary in nature, you have to make a conscious effort to react to something. Reaction times depend on your attention (focus) and how fast you process information. There are mainly two types of reaction times (RTs): (1) simple reaction times, (2) choice reaction times. Most of the people involved in sports have fast reaction times. You can improve your simple reaction times by playing sports like lawn tennis, table tennis, frisbee, etc. Choice RTs involves being prepared for many eventualities—for example turning left at a traffic light. Chess gives you many choices, but you take your time, you do not have to be too fast; in video games you have choices but you have to be fast. Try playing physical sports and see if that helps you improve. Do you lose your attention after a while? Remind yourself to concentrate.Some people can never become very fast; RTs get slower with age.

What is peak age when people have fastest reflexes?

I play a lot of FPS games ,i was curious what is the exact age when some body's reflex are fastest,what is the range of age when after your reflex starting to slow ? mean i guess your fastest reflex age range is from 15 to 30, just guessing,i need your opinions on this.And sorry for my bad school English if couldn't make you understand.

How do i speed up my reflexes?

Your reflexes are related to your ability to recognize or know what your opponent is going to do. Beyond that it has to do with how fast you can respond.

I wrote this about improving speed some time ago. Here it is.


Speed depends on several things.

1) The fastest techniques are the ones where the body is as relaxed as possible just before the technique is executed. Any tension is the muscles that are used before the technique is launched will hinder its speed.

2) All movements involve two kinds of muscles the muscles that do the movement are known as the agonistic muscles. The muscles that hinder the movement are called the antagonistic muscles. In kicking and example is the front snap kick. When kicking the muscles doing most of the work are the muscles on the front of the thigh(agonistic). the muscles on the back of the leg are the antagonistic muscles. To have a fast front kick, you must tense the agonistic muscles as fast as possibles and at the same time relax the antagonistic muscles so that they do not hinder the movement. In reality other muscles are use for the kick too but lets keep it simple for now.

The problem is that there is no quick way to teach the muscles to be tense or relaxed. What you can do is to practice slowly and concentrate on doing the movement exactly as it should be. Over time you can slowly increase the speed of the kick. Over time your kicks will get better. As I said there are no shortcuts. Be sure to stretch too since this will effect speed as well.

Power can be increased by increasing the speed of a technique. Physics states that if an object doubles its speed the force(power) increases by a factor of 4. So if you double your speed your power increases by 2 X 2 or 4our times. If it was possible to triple your speed your power would increase by 9 times (3 squared or 3 X 3).

Even small increases in average speed will increase power a good deal. Say you only increase you speed by 25% then the increase in power would be 1.25 squared or 1.5625 times more power.

Do video games like Fortnite help refine your reflexes?

I have written many times before that nothing improves your reflexes.You can improve your reaction times; get out and get involved in sports (tennis, squash, table tennis, lacrosse, etc) which will be much better for your body and brain. I am not discouraging playing video games once in a while but depending exclusively on video games to improve your reaction times is not helpful both physically and mentally.

Are certain people just simply born with fast reflexes? Is there a way to improve upon your own?

For hand dexterity in fencing, try parrying only with the forte (the bottom third) of the blade. Basically, think of a parry from the hand, not from the blade. This will hopefully at least allow your parry to come a little more smoothly.

Why do old people drive slow?

As one gets older, one's eyesight, hearing, and reflexes are not as good as when one is younger. Older individuals also tend to suffer from more aches, pains, arthritis, etc. So, when one is older one is inclined to drive slower because they know that they can't respond as fast to traffic changes, traffic accidents, the peculiarities of other driver's habits.
Perhaps it is also a psychological change: older people know that they don't have to speed to get places.

Yes, driving too slow makes one a road hazard, and the police can cite slow drivers. Hey there.First of all let us state some factors which affect the reflexes. One may say that there are many of them but some are as follows-Genetical factors- there are high chances of an individual to have more or less reflexes which they inherit from genes (from parents,etc.)Environmental FactorsSocial life- there are again high chances of increased reflexes if an individual has a good social life. however this may not be possible if he/she is not too good socially.Punctuality, daily routine and Diet- this factor plays an important role. one must be punctual, to get good results. Also one must take a healthy diet.5.relaxed mind also helps in getting most of the information of a particular situation and our body to act accordingly.Now coming to Solutions-To be honest there is not much we can do about the first factor viz. genetical factor. there are two types of fibers in a human’s body. a) Slow twitch fibers- these provide us with strength, endurance, etc. b) Fast twitch fibers- these are responsible for speed, reflexes, etc. and unfortunately the composition of these fibers in our body cannot be changed.Living in a closed atmosphere with insufficient amount of air or oxygen, excessive pollution, can be one reason a person may not have optimum reflexes. however it is opposite in the case of good atmosphere, having good atmosphere helps in better functioning of our mind.Now by social life I DIDN’T mean SOCIAL MEDIA LIFE. But how we mix up with people and our ways of communication. these factors independently affect our reflexes.4.Reflexes also increases by various exercises to sharpen your mind.
