Scuba or Snorkeling in Cozumel?

I'm going on the carnival fascination cruise and we're stopping at playa del carmen. Cozumel is nearby so i wanted to go scuba diving there. I've never scuba dived before so i don't have a certificate or whatever you need to scuba dive. I only have 9 hours in Mexico also so I can't take those long classes. I want to see colorful fish and things.

Is there anyway I could scuba there? If not , is snorkling just as fun and will i see a lot of things underwater? if you've been there , where did you go?
thanks for helping.

What are the best cruise ship ports in the Caribbean for snorkeling?

What is the comparison between Cozumel and Cabo?

Apart from being located at the extremes of México, Cabo in the north and Cozumel almost on the southern border, the water in Cabo is colder and Cozumel is on the Caribbean so it is warmen and crystal clear. As a diving enthusiast, I'd prefer Cozumel, although Cabo has finer lodgings. Cozumel is also more "Mexican" to my taste, although bith destinations are very attractive.

Who is from Cozumel, Mexico, and what fun things can I do there?

I’m not from there, I live in Guanajuato… but I just spent a month in the Yucatán.Snorkeling, the Palancar Reef. The beaches are nice… hang out swim sun. There are many restaurants that will let you use their beaches for free if you eat and drink there. Chankanaab National Park… you can swim with dolphins, manatees and sea lions. …I have done all three ( my favorite.. dolphins). You can take a ferry to Playa Del Carmen and visit ruins. I have personally visited many sights. Tulum is close and by the ocean. Accessible by bus and or taxi. Always agree on a price before you get in the taxi. You can get a tour of the island and see how the islanders live and see interesting places.Of course there is always shopping.Hope that is helpful.

Cancun vs Cozumel?

I have been to both multiple times. My choice would be Cancun hands down.

Cancun has great hotels, beaches, and amenities. Its very accessible to all of the best attractions like Chichen Itza, Xcarat, and other Mayan ruins. If you go to Cozumel you have to take a ferry to the mainland to do anything other than sun on the beach, scuba, or snorkel. There are limited attractions and resources on Cozumel and not really any sights to see, in my opinion.

Cancun has great hotels all in a hotels district and with a "jitney" bus system that's really great and cheap to get around on. So whereever you want to go, restaurant, shopping, attractions, clubs, you can just hail a jitney and get there for about a dollar. Cancun is crowded, kinda like Vegas, but it has the things to draw crowds. If you don't mind crowds, go to Cancun. If you want to be away from people and things and just enjoy a beach, go to Cozumel. Oh, in Cancun you do have to watch the undertow on the beaches; they fly flags to tell you when its not safe.

What are the best places to do diving and/or snorkelling around Okinawa?

Yonaguni in the Yaeyama Islands. I haven't been myself but I visited the other islands in that area and they were all spectacular. Ishigaki had some good snorkelling but Yonaguni was where all the divers were headed. Accessible via ferry from Ishigaki. Miyakojima is supposedly good, too.

Where's a cheap exotic vacation destination?

I'm not sure where you're coming from. I'm from Michigan and over the last decade (plus), I've done quite a bit of traveling to various places in the Caribbean, Mexico, and to Costa Rica. Generally, the airfare is half the cost of the trip. From experience, some of the most inexpensive places I have been include the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and parts of Mexico(like Cancun or Cozumel). My favorite place is Cozumel- very laid-back atmosphere with great snorkeling/diving and enough activities, bars, restaraunts to keep you busy for a week or so. Don't know what your definitiion of "cheap" is so a couple of basic hotels to check out in Cozumel are the Casa Del Mar and the Hotel Barracuda. Went to Negril, Jamaica a few years ago all-inclusive in March for under $600 per person and stayed at the Hotel Sam Sara (which was like a one star hotel but was adequate for us). Sam Sara is on the cliffs with no beach, a small pool and little activity (which was actually nice); the food was okay but the meals got routine and boring so we simply walked across the street for breakfast at Choices or went out to one of the bar/restaraunts (LTU and Kayuba were good). Best thing about Sam Sara is that it had a sister resort-Legends-on the beach so if you stayed at either you could take the free shuttle to the other resort and spend the day(and eat, use the facilities, etc. like anyone staying there) which we regularly did; when we had our fill of the busy beach and being "solicited" by the locals (because the beaches are public anyone can roam them thats why cliff beaches are quiter/more private) we returned to our quiet little resort. Dominican Republic and Cancun are also places that offer good deals because they can offer cheaper prices due to the large number of tourists they bring in; Cancun is for the person that likes the beach and loves to party and the Dominican may be best for the person that just likes to stay at their (usually quite luxurious) resort. Look at www.gocozumel.com or www.negril.com or www.dominicanrepublic.com and www.cancun.com to help you out. If I can be of any more help, message me.
