Historical events in the firt half of the 20th century?

The first half of the 20th century saw more change than any comparable period in human history. In 1901 the fastest form of travel was the railroad at about 40 mph. No airplanes. No improved roads between cities. Most of America had no electricity or telephone. The US was mostly rural.

In 1950 airplanes were moving 1 1/2 time the speed of sound. We'd launched rockets into space (nothing in orbit yet, though). Television was a growing fad. Computers had been invented. Ships were 4 times bigger and in 1901. We'd had 2 world wars. In 1901 most of Europe was under Kings or Queens. In 1950 most were either democracies or behind the Iron Curtain. Very few communities did not have telephone - almost everyone had electricity. You could travel by car from coast to coast on paved roads - cars didn't even exist in 1901.

I'll leave it to you to consider how poets and authors had to deal with all these changes. If you were writing about current events or current culture you could be obsolete before you were published!

If you could go back in time and change one event in the history of the world, what would you change?

I love your question because I love the whole time travel fantasy. I time travel when I have difficulty sleeping, the hazy twilight halfway between sleep and awake serves the task well. The challenge I set-up is 1) identify something in history that I'd like to change 2) find my way there in my imagination, attempting to pull up the sights, the sounds, the reality of the time and place 3) find the means of changing that key moment in history. My favorite focus has been preventing the African slave trade from developing in America. To some extent I've figured it out. Time traveling to late 16th Century England and finding a way to befriend Sir Francis Bacon. He's the key. Although he was in and out of favor with Elizabeth I, in the later part of her reign (until her death in 1603), Bacon was one of her chief advisors (on the Queen's Counsel in 1596). I would urge Bacon to follow the ideals he presented in his book New Atlantis, in which presented a utopian America free of bigotry, poverty and ignorance. If he didn't succeed in getting Elizabeth to outlaw slavery throughout the British Empire (which they did get around to in 1803), he could continue to campaign with James I, who knighted Bacon and made him Attorney General. He would still have time to get it done before the first ship with African slaves arrived in Virginia in 1609.But, as with all time travel scenarios, when you wake up to the consequences of that change whatever certainty you may have had evaporates. What would American be like without the African-American influence?

Military short story ideas?

Base it off of a historical event. Like Pearl Harbor or Vietnam. Whatever you know enough about. Write it from an interesting perspective. Be descriptive. Make it interesting. For example, if you are writing a story that is about Pearl Harbor, to make it interesting, write it from the perspective of the president, since he controls the army, or a young soldier in the middle of everything that is happening. Make it as accurate about the military and the event as possible, but add your own spin.

What is the best time period to write a story in?

First of all it’s important to understand period pieces take a lot of extra research into things like:sayingsclothing stylesfoodtechnology availableweapons of the timewho was in power in various countrieswhat people did or didn’t do differentlyhow people livedWhen choosing a period, choose one that you know you can write competently. The period should really interest you and you should have read many books set in this time to get a feel for it.Beyond this, consider what works well with your story.High fantasy is often written in a European middle ages type periodSci Fi is often written in an imagined futureLove stories do well in all periods but will appeal to different audiencesAdventure is another one that works well across periodsHorror is typically set in present day.But in writing, nothing is set in stone. Some of the best stories transcend their periods in an interesting way.Good luck with your book.

Need help writing a short story about Titanic?

For English class we need to write a short story about a historical event, where you are vague about the event at first and then the twist at the end is that you reveal what you are talking about. For example, if I was writing about the Boston Tea Party (which I can't because it's taken) I would write about how people are fleeing the ships and my last sentence would be ''The tea floated away.'' to give away the event.

I have decided to write about the sinking of the Titanic, but I have no idea what to describe throughout the story and what I should say at the end to give away what it's really about. And ideas?

What should I write my 20-paragraph history paper about?

If I were to choose a topic; I'd pick a more recent but very historic event; The events that took place on 9th of September 2001 would be a great historical but modern topic to write about. The world knows this event as “911”; a scary event that if you choose to take this topic on; should be looked further into. What really happened on that fateful day?Who was truly behind this horrific event?Does the physics of the impacts add up?How can a building that was claimed to have fallen still be standing as the news is reported? You will find a lot on this topic through Google and one Wiki has just caught my eye; here is the link:9/11 Truth movement - WikipediaWhatever topic you choose there is a lot information to be found on the big Worldwide Web.I wish you luck with whatever topic you choose.

How do you write a song that tells a story?

In my opinion, a good song is always a journey and in some way a story. For example it can take you through a relationship like, you're together in the first verse, you grew cold in the second verse, you end the relationship in the bridge. Or it can take you through time like: (1st verse) when I was young I was so lost, and so I started selling arms, (2nd verse) by the time I was 30 I made a fortune and (3rd verse) I'm old and staring blankly into the fire, thinking of all the people, who died with the help of my business. So basically, 1) You should have a story, or simply have something to tell. In my experience having something to tell contributes greatly to the quality of the song and also writing becomes much easier.2) You should decide where to start (Example: I was playing Cops and Robbers, dreaming of a decent gun)3) You should decide, where you finish (Example: regretting all the people shot with the help of guns you sold)4) You decide, how you get from start to finish, in order to show the story in it's full (Example 1: mentioning time and aging from a child to a senile arms dealer Example 2: developing the song through relations to other people, like your father was proud you're such a patriot with all these guns, your wife never fully accepted the way you make a living, your grandchildren stopped talking to you, because they considered you a butcher). You could use lots of ways to develop the song. Some of the paths are time, place, people, seasons, attempts at doing something, the intensity of feeling or just the storyline as it is. Don't be afraid to experiment! So think of a story and go show it to the world!
