What Are Some Music Composition Software

What is the best software for digital music composition?

It depends on what you mean by “digital music.” Some recording software covers both MIDI and Audio, including looped audio. Some are much simpler, and don’t have the steep learning curve of MIDI, but if you play keyboards, it’s worth it to learn it. My keyboard workstation does both, but isn’t good for editing or final mixes. Guitar MIDI tracking has also become VERY useful, I have a good selection of MIDI capable guitars and synths dedicated to guitar, able to also play my keyboards and outboard sound modules from guitar. It takes a little education and work to use any of it. If you just want to record yourself playing and/or singing, GarageBand will do nicely until you become advanced. There are too many professional apps to go into and aren’t necessary when you’re just starting out.If you want to work with loops, you might as well get the cheapest and go with it until you’re ready to make real music, yourself. I consider loops cheating a little, although most pros use looped phrases for certain things they simply can’t play, or we create them ourselves. I do that with drums, sometimes create patterns myself, sometimes start with a basic loop. If you can afford Ableton Live, that will keep you busy looping for awhile. If you know a bit about this stuff, read the list of DAW software Yuri posted, check abilities, prices, and reviews before you spend $$.

Is there any music composition software that makes your ideas look handwritten?

While there are programs like Sibelius that allows to compose music via inputting old school notes on staff “paper”, it will still look about as handwritten as a word document in Arial looks “handwritten”.Which is actually a good thing for the poor musicians who are supposed to read your sheet music to play it. I mean, have you seen some of the “handwriting” of old composers? Some of it is nearly impossible to read and about on par with my handwriting when drunk—which is to say, full of needless adornments and all out of whack, to the point of yours truly being unable to read it once sobered up.Of course, you still have to follow the “rules” of how to prepare the sheet music to be halfway readable—and actually playable… you still have to keep orchestration in mind—you won’t get away from that. You either put in the work or you have musicians being understandably annoyed at you for writing your music in a hard-to-read-way. The only thing Sibelius—and other programs like it—will make easier is eliminating your hand—therefor having a clear typeset—and it will let you play back what you input by interpreting the stuff you write as MIDI data… that won’t sound perfect at all, but it helps. This all is, of course, assuming you want to make music that would actually be written down on staff paper. If you just want to make music with yourself being the only one playing stuff, you might as well just take a regular DAW and use the Piano Roll, which is actually quite a bit less abstract and more straightforward then sheet music, but harder to read if used for communication.

Best rock music composition software?

I just started getting into home recording and setup a cheap studio. I've been using Reaper and find it to be very easy to use and has as many features as Cubase and Cakewalk. Also you can grab a free trial that doesn't expire if your not using it for commercial purposes and the registered version is reasonable. Check it out...

What is the best music composing software program?

Ditto what Carl Weidner said.Assuming you are talking about DAWs ( Digital Audio Workstation), I would say that Logic Pro and Digital Performer are top contenders based upon composers who I know and work with. I personally use Logic X for composing.

What are some good cheap/free digital music composing software other than GarageBand?

GarageBand is not a digital music composing software”. It is a digital audio workstation (DAW).In fact, there is no such thing as a “digital music composing software”, because there are many different tools to compose music. A DAW is one of the most popular ways, notation editor is another, and MIDI sequencers are great if you’re old.If you’re using a Mac or MacBook, the best free DAW you can possibly get is GarageBand. It’s essentially a simplified version of Logic Pro X, but it’s still quite powerful if you know all of its quirks. If you’re on Windows PC, there are various free DAWs that you can experiment with. All of them have compromises though— for example, Pro Tools First only allows a maximum of 16 tracks. Studio One Prime has unlimited tracks, but doesn’t support third-party VSTs. Ardour has none of those limitations, but it is ridiculously difficult to learn, and it also has a LOT of bugs. And if you ever decide that editing sheet music is much more up your alley (it is a lot simpler, in my opinion), Musescore is the best free notation editor available.
