What Are Some Of Your Favorite Albums You Would Recommend To Someone Looking For New Music To

What are some album recommendations for someone looking to get into dark r&b music?

I would recommend listening to old sound of The Weeknd, that includes his early mixtapes - House Of Balloons, Thursday, Echoes Of Silence ( aka Trilogy ), his albums - Kiss Land, Beauty Behind The Madness and EP - My Dear Melancholy,He does have some features or songs that aren’t on these albums/mixtapes/ep so you should just go ahead and start with the ones i listed above and if you like them, try digging deeper and you’ll probably find his remix’s or features with the same vibe.

What's your current favorite song? I need new music

What are your music preferences? Are you into hip-hop or lean more towards alternative? Do you like more chill music to vibe out to like some lo-fi or do you prefer music more suited to amp you up such as the electronic dance music scene?Myself, I am a big fan of all of the above. That being said, if you are too, I’ll simply suggest what I’ve been bumpin’ as of recent on my commute to work, in the gym or bored in my room.Sunflower - Rex Orange County (Alternative)Pretty Girl - Clairo (Lo-fi)Fun (feat. Madge) - Kaskade, Brohug & Mr. Tape (Electro House)Written in The Scars (feat. Wrabel) - Galantis (House)Sunflower - Post Malone & Swae Lee (Hip-Hop)Everything Now - Arcade Fire (Alternative)Pretty much find myself playing these on repeat as of recent. Hope you take to them just as much as I do.In addition, if my tunes do happen to tickle your fancy, check out my answer, On shuffle, what song do you never skip? I’ve compiled quite the list of some of my favourite songs in my library. Thanks for the interesting question friend, take care!Brandon.

I am looking for some new music, what do you recommend for someone who loves all types of music?

The Second Law of Otis is that everyone likes the music which was popular when they were 18 to 25-yers old. They think that was the greatest music ever, and everything since then has been junk. Evidence of this fact is the large number of questions here about the Beatles. What’s the greatest Beatles album? Do Paul and Ringo like each other? Were any of the Beatles ever cloned? Where can I find John’s toenail clippings? If you yet cherish the banal songs of yesteryear, there is no point in reading further. I support modern artists and new music. Some years ago, my Gen-X neighbors began visiting me so they could get high and listen to my massive sound system (1450 watts, seven speaker systems). I’ve always welcomed free intoxicants, but when I took a look at the CDs they brought with them, I showered them with derision. They had brought music which was popular when they were 18 to 25-years old: inferior artists such as Beck, Jane’s Addiction, and that dumbo Grunge rock.It was my duty to bring them up-to-speed on the latest and greatest, and make them realize that nostalgia sucks and that music doesn’t stop improving once you pass thirty. One of the albums I played for them was Running Still by Charlie Winston. They had never heard of Charlie Winston, because I was the only person in the United States who had that album. (I ordered it from Dr. Disc in Windsor, Ontario, and it took months to arrive from Europe.)Charlie Winston is a British singer and songwriter, and he has a fine band. For some reason he is popular only in Europe.I don’t like to post videos here, so my assignment to you is to watch the entire 2-hour concert video of Hit the Road by Charlie Winston. You will be enchanted by it (especially the long version of My Life as a Duck), and you will immediately forget about the Beatles and other inferior music from your past. You may notice that Hit the Road was filmed (videoed) in 2010, so it’s not exactly new. It was released after his first CD album, so it doesn’t contain his newer, better material, but it’s still very entertaining.Once you have completed that assignment, return to this page and write these words: Dr. Otis, that was wonderful! What other wisdom can you bestow on me?Once I see those words posted, I will tell you of more new music that is better than anything you have ever heard in your life.Make haste! The clock is . . . Well, the clock is not making any noise, because it’s digital.

Can someone recommend me some good bands?

Hi I was wondering if the yahoo answers community could give me some of their favorite artists so I can discover some new music, I'm really open to any kind of music and I listen to anything but I prefer Rock, Metal, Metalcore, Deathcore etc. If anyone could suggest me some bands in those genres preferably I'd appreciate it but I'll take any artist you suggest as well; I'm just trying to build my collection and appreciate some good music. Thanks! :)

Favorite Blonde Redhead Albums?

It's no secret I'm a BIG Blonde Redhead fan!

I fell for their charms when I heard La Mia Vita Violenta. It's slick combination of indie noise and beautiful flowing melodies took my breath away! I absolutely love "Jewel" and "I Am There While You Choke On Me" off that release.

I got Melody Of Certain Damaged Lemons right when it came out and I admit it was slow to grow on me since it was a bit softer but before long I couldn't stop playing it.
"Melody of Certain Three", "A Cure", and "This Is Not" are my favorites.

I also have In An Expression of the Inexpressible and Misery Is a Butterfly which seem almost like polar opposites but both are great albums.

I haven't bought the new release - I've checked out clips and I'm reluctant as I feel maybe it's lost a lot of what attracted me to them in the first place.

What kind of jazz musicians do you recommend for a new jazz listener, I would like to start with something upbeat and rhythmic?

For “upbeat” and “rhythmic”, you might like Wes Montgomery. “Smokin’ at the Half Note” features Wynton Kelly and is one of Pat Metheny’s favourite recordings.A classic album a lot of people who came of age after jazz’s golden age in the late 50s cut their jazz teeth on is Chick Corea and Return to Forever’s Light as a Feather. A nice Latin Jazz flavoured album with great playing by a young Stanley Clark and an enormously underrated Joe Farrell. It was after this album that Chick went heavily into fusion, likely after hearing what the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Weather Report were up to.And how about Grover Washington Jr? Winelight shipped tons, largely on the strength of Just the Two of Us. Smooth soul jazz from the 70s.I agree with the recommendations of Red Clay and Song for My Father. Great albums. Bill Evans’ Waltz for Debbie too, but maybe more contemplative than upbeat and rhythmic. And, one album that I come back to and enjoy again and again is Lee Ritenour’s Stolen Moments. Lee is very deep into his L-5 on this album and he plays great on a some classic tunes.

I'm trying to open myself up to new music, what is your one favorite song that you think everyone should hear?

I’ve said this in many, many answers. But anyone who hasn’t heard Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana is missing out in life. The main guitar riff and the solo are one of my favorites of all time, the drums are kickass, and Krist Novaselic did an amazing job with setting a bass groove in the song.Other songs by Nirvana you should listen to are Lithium, Polly, Sliver, In Bloom, About A Girl, and if you want to headband and kill your ears then I recommend Tourette’s.Another band I recommend is Third Eye Blind. Their self titled album is one of my favorite albums of all time, there isn’t a song in it that I don’t like. Unfortunately, the rest of their albums don’t live up to the standard the first one set. You’ve probably already heard of blink-182, but to get the full punk experience I recommend listening to the Cheshire Cat, Buddha, and Enema of the State albums. Most of their newer albums are mainly just overdone pop songs. Nonetheless, the newer albums have good songs too. Like Always, I Miss You, After Midnight, and Feeling This.Hope the list helped. Overall I’d recommend listening to Smells Like Teen Spirit over everything else. Trust me, you’ll like it.-ED

If you were going to use two tracks to get someone into your favorite band which ones would you choose?

I'm glad I gave them a shot. Thanks.

Hi JMike, I grabbed the Wildhearts tracks and I liked TV Tan in particular a lot. Unfortunately, I grabbed tracks from a live album I suspect and I want to pick up the album versions. Really good songs.

Rukrym - I have Tak... but I haven't listened to it in quite a while, I like Hoppipola a lot though. Great tune. I tried to get the other one, but I couldn't find it at the iTunes store.

stew Pedastol - I didn't get around to it yesterday, but I've been meaning to check out some Ben Harper. Thanks for the advice.

Hi Buzzkill, I got the Spoon tracks and they are totally good. Kicking Giant as well (I got two of their songs kind of randomly). I really like the song Alien I.D.

That pretty much makes up the ones I bought yesterday. I was really pleasantly suprised by the choices that were made with some of the groups I already like. Mach Penn picked the same two for Radiohead that I would have. Hope it was fun to think about.

Thanks!

I am looking for some good new music to listen to. I tend to enjoy singer songwriters like Brandi Carlile, Feist, and Sara Bareilles. Any recommendations?
