Yes, the Melting Pot IS too classy for a casual non date. It's a DATE spot....even listed on CitySearch as one. I've never been there (would looove to go tho) but my sister has cause that's where her bf took her for her birthday. Yia Yia's EuroCafe in Chesterfield would be another to avoid too. That's def. a date spot too...it was were I was taken for Valentine's Day one year. I would suggest somewhere more fun....like Dave & Busters over in Earth City. That's casual & there are games to play afterwards! =o) There's also a bar in the middle of the game area if you guys are 21+ but I don't know cause you didn't specify your ages. Should be some light refreshment that's not expensive at all. Should have a chance to get acquainted & mainly to talk & see if you have anything in common. Another idea would be to take a walk. Sure, the most wonderful thing would be if you lived in a beach town & could take a walk on the beach. However, not everybody is that lucky, so a walk anyplace, such as on a college campus, is fine. Usually, there are some flowers to enjoy or maybe someplace to stop to sit on a rock or step & talk a little more than what you would do if you kept walking. Another idea would be if you're both students & qualify for discount tickets to stage play. Then you could go together to get your tickets, so that you could sit together at the play. Also, you would have something to talk about afterward. You can also do something simple like watch a movie at home. It would be easy to take breaks to stop to talk about the movie while eating a snack. One reason for not spending much money is that it could turn out that you don't really like each other. If the man has spent much money on the date, then he might be angry that she doesn't want to continue dating. It's not fair to either one of you if you feel compelled to continue.
