What Are Some Songs That Will Suit This Voice

How do you pick a karaoke song to suit your voice?

Thanks for asking: I play guitar and usually would work out playing that I wanted to learn vocally BUT I will go to karaoke to check out songs that I might want to add to our set list or try my vocals on before bringing it forward to pitch to the band.Do a little homework before you head out entertaining your friends, family and the people who may be at the karaoke bar.Pick you genre: what do you usually listen to? Country, classic rock, rap, oldies etc. What is a song(s) that you sing when you’re in your car, shower, with friends or be-bopping around the house? What songs/artists are you most familiar with?Sing along with the original recording of the song… is it within your range (no squeaks at the top end of your range) or growls at the bottom end?…. can you hold the longest note (with confidence) that is in the song?. Next, sing it without the recording quite a few times and move to singing it to a backing track with no lead vocals (many are available on YouTube) . Karaoke, by definition is “singing without an orchestra”.Tape record yourself to see how you sound . Can you make corrections to your phrasing, breathing to make the sound better? Most karaoke machines have the ability of changing the pitch of the song higher or lower but this may change the tempo/backing track etc. depending what technology is used. You can ask them to change the key higher or lower. Many places have different arrangements to a song and will have sample tracks on their website. Check them out & try your vocal styling to their tracks. Some will have the original recording track, a re-make recording track (if the song was released by an another artist) or perhaps a dance mix of the song. Ask the host if it’s the original. The best thing about karaoke, IMO, is you are there to have FUN, not to be a professional performer… if you screw up, so what, everyone will not have great voices or know their songs, or will sing them well. Be polite, applaud each performer and sing your song with gusto.. HAVE FUN!

I have a relatively low voice, what songs suit me?

I am really good with vibrato, but my voice falters when I reach the higher notes. For example, I can make a very nice performance with Someone Like You by Adele, but I can't 100% reach the "Don't forget me" part of the chorus. :(

What songs or singers do you suggest I try focusing on? Thanks!

What song/genre would fit my voice?

It's great that you're taking steps to better your singing. Continue to practice some more, and if you want to get better faster, get some voice lessons to learn the basic and proper singing techniques common to all singing styles, and then get a copy of Melissa Cross’s vocal coaching DVD to mold your voice towards the rock genre. From my ears, the genre that's the nearest fit for your voice is rock, and that's awesome. Not everyone has a voice that's naturally suited to rock.Listen to this, it sounds a bit like your voice but I can feel that you're gonna have a raspier voice than this if you develop your voice; that means your voice is gonna be more appealing to listen to in the rock genre. In a lot of cases, a person's voice won't suit the genre that (s)he likes, and (s)he'll just have to accept the fact that it's the initial state of his/her voice. With a lot of time, practice and tweaking, you'll still get better at singing that genre, however, there will always be genres where our voice sounds better.I, for instance, really like heavy metal and rock but my voice is most fitting to Frank Sinatra songs. Nonetheless, I still try to practice to make my voice versatile.

Songs that suit altos?

altos are every bit as important as any other voice in the choir! If there were only the melody, you'd get bored awfully quick!!!
An alto voice has the ability to put more emotion into her voice than a soprano ( mainly because they're all so worried about hitting the high notes and looking pretty at the same time), so there is a great deal of repertory open to you. for very good Altos ( also known as mezzo-sopranos) you can go whole hog and listen to some opera greats. If that's too scary, listen to Diana Krall, Norah Jones, and Audra McDonald. These are some of the most beautiful alto voices around.
You can do lots of jazz from the 30's- Cole Porter or George Gershwin would be great. If you look through some of the old-fashioned musicals from the 40s and 50s, there are also lots of things in your range.
If you are interested in more classical things, email me through the Answers, and I'll be glad to give you a list as long as my arm.
Best wishes and keep on singing

What are some songs to sing if you have a deep voice and you are a girl?

I have to disagree with the comment that Taylor Swift has a high range. As a soprano, I can tell you she sings fairly low. She just has a very young, light voice which sounds higher than someone with a more mature, heavier voice might sound singing the same pitches.

Nevertheless. You can sing anything you want depending how wide your overall range is. Even if you have a deep voice, if you have a couple of octaves to play around with, you can consider simply transposing a song down to whatever key you want to sing it in. Transposing means you move overall pitch of the song up or down to suit your own voice. You don't say if you plan to use a karaoke track in your talent show, or have a pianist play some sheet music for you. You can buy most sheet music for pop /country songs in several different keys. Depending on the software or equipment you play your karaoke track on, they can also be transposed up or down (too much sometimes distorts the sound of recordings, so pick something close to where you want it).

If you're singing acapella, well that really makes it easy. Practice by picking a random place to start that is comfortable for you in your register and sing all parts of the song are equally comfortable for you to sing. You don't want to switch keys while you sing; you want to pick a key where you can sing your best high and low notes with equal ease. Maybe your high note isn't the same as Beyonce's but it will be YOUR high note.

I don't really recommend acapella singing in talent shows because unless you have the Voices of Heavenly Angels coming out of your throat (and an ability to stay on pitch without help), it comes off as really amateurish, and most pop songs just don't sound right without at least someone strumming a guitar.

There are lots of famous singers, past and present with deep beautiful voices. Sade, Karen Carpenter, Tracy Chapman, Anne Murray, Toni Braxton, and even classical singer Marion Andersen (but being trained for opera she had a heck of a high range too).

High voices aren't everything. I'm a soprano, so I can say that. High notes just mean you can sing high. It doesn't mean you are necessarily good. So you can be a fantastic female singer with your gorgeous mellow deep tones.
