Stereotypes are hilarious, especially because stereotypes are so arbitrary, oftentimes there are stereotypes that are complete opposite (i.e. mexicans - lazy and hardworkers). Here's some stereotypes I could come up with. Obviously I think these are not accurate assumptions for groups of people, but these are commonly held: Asians: smart sneaky/conniving model minority shy/submissive don't speak english/"perpetual foreigners" feel superior to other races unfriendly laundromat/nail salons/etc women like white or black guys/"dragon lady" money minded self isolating bad drivers Blacks: lazy ghetto angry at white people sexually dominant violent gangsters/rappers/hiphop loud women/"baby mama"/single mothers criminals/men in jail drug dealers bitter about slavery welfare recipients unintelligent/uneducated improper english names like "shaniqua" having rhythm Latinos: lazy work for cheap/hard working poor tons of children/dependent on social services/"trying to take over" don't speak english junky cars/parking on their lawns drug dealers smoking crack criminals illegal immigrants men mistreat women construction workers/agricultural work/"cheap" work over-sexuality good dancers Native Americans: alcoholics gambling/casinos lazy "noble savages" poor spiritual/tribal customs/pow-wows violent bitter towards white people/stubborn criminals Whites: irresponsible privileged/ignorant of their privilege see themselves superior to minorities suburban fear of minorities (especially blacks) concerned with appearances/money socially conservative rednecks/hillbillies/white trash lazy unfriendly/unsocial hippies/treehuggers/emos using cocaine white collar crime close-minded of other cultures
Culture Stereotypes?
Well I'm probably not the best person to ask about this because I happen to belive that most stereotypes are basically true (otherwise, the wouldn't have been stereotypes in the frist place). The reason why things become stereotypes is because more than a handful of people have noticed the same thing about more than a handful of a particular group of people that they have shared with other people down the line. Of course not all stereotypes are true for everyone in that particular group, but for the majority of people in that representative group the stereotype seems to be true more often then not. I believe in the 90%/10% rule. Meaning that for every stereotype, 90% of the people in that particular group being stereotyped fit the stereotype and 10% don't. I base that primarily on my own experiences (as do most people). Black people can't swim White people can't dance Asian people are good at math Jewish people are greedy Christian people are hipocrytes Gay men talk with a lisp British people have bad teeth The French are a**holes Black people like Hip-Hop and R&B music White people like Rock, Alternative and Country music Asian people like Pop, Techno and Trance music Black men have large penises Asian men have small penises Black girls have big asses Black people like chicken and watermelon White girls are "easy" White men can't jump Gay people are promiscuous Black people are less educated Asian people are more educated White people are the most racist Black people are better athletes These are all common stereotypes (some positive and some negative) and not everyone in those groups fit the stereotype. But the reason why most people believe them is because these things have been observed by people for years and some ultra PC people just want to deny that fact and pretend that everyone was build the same physically and grows up with the same interests and backgrounds.
