What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Jewish Faith Schools

Disadvantages of Faith-Based schooling?

Allowed. Because freedom can't be fickle and parents have every right to educate their children as they see fit.

Disadvantages? Not all are equal. Not all equip for the real world.
Advantages? Some are extraordinarily advanced, concentrating on college preparatory education and outshining their public school counterparts in standardized testing. Classes tend to be smaller and therefore more beneficial, with less students falling through the cracks.

What are some of the advantages and disadvantages that prayers have in public schools?

A major disadvantage of prayer in schools is that it results in students identifying those students who hold a minority religious position within the school (whether that minority position is being of a different religious background — such as being Jewish or Muslim — or of not being religious — such as those who are atheist or agnostic). This identification almost always results in the minority students being singled out for teasing, taunting, bullying, and other forms of social isolation and exclusion. In rare instances where it does not have this result, it nevertheless results in significant discomfort to religious minorities (who, even if such taunting does not result, nevertheless brace themselves for this).Another major disadvantage of prayer in the schools is that, even if the prayer is nominally “non-denominational,” the reality is that the beliefs and teachings of the dominant / majority religion almost always and inevitably seep in. In that sense, prayer in the school not only results in minority religious students being persecuted, but it also results in the children of families not of the majority religion to become indoctrinated in the beliefs of the majority religion, trampling the rights of parents to raise their children within their religious (or areligious) background of choice.Really, there is no advantage to prayer in schools whatsoever. For those parents and children for whom daily prayers are important, it is always possible to wake up a little earlier and have the students pray in private or at their religious institutions before going to school. And, indeed, this is what many religious Jews whose children go to public school do; they go to shul (synagogue) for prayers before the school day starts, and then go to school. The only reason to have prayer in schools is to impose the majority religion on the minority through coercion, intimidation, and indoctrination, and this sort of religious oppression and tyranny is exactly why the first amendment was created in the first place.

What are the disadvantages of the UK having 'faith schools'?

Some people (myself included) do not likeThe idea of schools which exclude anyone for unjustifiable reasons.Schools intended to indoctrinateSchools which foster division (an “us and them” narrative). Personally, this is my biggest problem with faith schools. Take for example Jewish or Muslim schools[1]. As many of them (not all) still do not consider themselves part of mainstream society in the UK, it is too easy (unless they are careful) to magnify this perceived separateness. As to the disadvantage for someone going there, well they will not get the chance to mix with people from different faiths. They will have to in later life, so they fail to get this early help. Additionally of course a school for say Muslims or Jews gives the racists and those who want to increase social division against those groups, an easy way to identify the “other” leading to an easier way to provide abuse.[1]In the comments I have been asked why I did not include Catholic schools. I feel that currently (except probably in N. Ireland) Catholicism has largely been absorbed into the mainstream, and so they do not suffer from point 3 as much as the examples given. That said points 1 & 2 definitely apply to Catholic schools as does the disadvantage to the pupils themselves. So to make it clear I do not like Catholic schools (or C of E) either.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of circumcision in adults?

Advantage:You look like most other people in your culture/faith. (It is not nice to be an outsider.)If women are used to circumstanced penises, they will like that. (Though women from other cultures will think it looks weird.)You can argue that you don't have to clean the glans as thoroughly. (But please clean it like uncircumcised men do it! It is much more healthy and nice.)You have only 40% protection against of getting HIV or HPV when you have vaginal sex with infected women. (But you srill have 60% risk. You can still get all the other STDs. And anal sex is still as risky as it is for everyone else.)Disadvantaged:Your penis have been mutilated before you could even speak, and you can never, ever get that part of your body back.Already when you were an infant, your parents saw you as a thing they could cut into without medical reason, and they migh still think of you as a non-person that they can trear as they want.Your penis will often have lost protective tissue and even some of the sensitive tissue. So getting an erection can be painful, sex can be painful and you generally have constant scar tissue on your glans. And sex might be less rewarding.Half of your penis head might actually be cut off, but no one have told you.You still have to clean the area and it is not more hygenic. You still have a risk of getting HPV and HIV no matter what the circumcision advocates say.You have been forced into a religion without your consent, you have parents who prefer the outdated bat mitzvah instead of the modern bat shalom or your parents choose to follow outdate medical advice that have long been disproven…

What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a multi-cultural society?

Here’s just my personal list. For me the advantages strongly outweigh the disadvantages. I grew up partly in the “whitest town in England” (literally — very little immigration there at all at the time and relatively few people with even ancestors from other cultures) and have since lived abroad a lot. The whitest town in England was no paradise, that’s for sure. To me, it was positively oppressive and extremely boring. Maybe that says as much about me and that particular town as about the nature of human monocultures.AdvantagesA more diverse culture means individual differences are better tolerated. Everyone is not expected to all like the same things, believe the same things, or even celebrate the same things. The influx of ideas and different ways of doing things is just interesting and stimulating. There’s less of a tendency in people to see everything from the same handful of points of view.Other cultures bring their food with them, tending to give us more variety. That’s not to be underestimated!DisadvantagesSome of what other cultures bring with them is inevitably going to be distinctly unsavoury. Every culture has its problems.Society is liable to become less cohesive — not something that bothers me personally but I see that some people are very bothered by it.There’s always the risk of multiple cultures remaining strongly culturally and physically separate, which fosters an “us and them” mentality. Differences can persist an awfully long time it seems, with or without religion being involved.

What are the major cons or disadvantages of religion?

This is actually for a school project. I have to debate against people who are for religion. the judge is neutral in his state of mind so i simply have to convince him and destroy (intellectually) the other team. Now I have found some cons of religion: Inquisition, Crusades, The Bush administration, Protestants vs Catholics in Ireland, Spain vs England in the 18th century, Extremism. If you can help me find other cons of religion that can help me destroy the other team, I would be very greatful. Thanks!
