What Are The Best Anti Depressants Out There

What is the best antidepressants?

Overall= Prozac and Effexor. Zoloft has been mentioned as good for anxiety-related problems. I would steer clear of Paxil. Lexapro has been mentioned as an effective anti-depressant especially among women. The best meds for anxiety are benzodiazepines ( Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, Valium and more.) I am not a doctor. All of my conclusions come from working as a mental health therapist.

What is the best antidepressant ?

I'm going to the Dr. tomorrow to get prescribed anti-depressants. I used to be on them a couple years ago, (I was on prozac) but had to go off them as I lost my health insurance. I just got back my health insurance so I'm going to get prescribed it again - but wanted to know what the best kind was? (I also have some anxiety issues too) - I don't know if theres a pill for both or if my dr. will prescribe me 2 different pills. My biggest thing is I don't want to be on meds that lower my sex drive..which is what prozac did to me. It was awful.
anyways just wanted to know from anyone whos been on them which ones they like and have had success with
Thanks!

What is the best non prescription antidepressant?

It is very hard to say what is the BEST antidepressant. St. John's Wort seems helpful for mild to moderate depression. Research is being conducted into the role of Omega-3 oils for treatment of depression and bipolar disorder.

However, there is very little solid scientific research on how well natural remedies work for depression. I recently wrote an answer dealing with a very similar subject, so I am copying most of it below for you.

You can go into most vitamin or health food stores and find a whole aisle devoted to mood enhancing supplements (antidepressants). Many of them come in combo formulas. If the sales clerk appears knowledgeable and honest, ask for his/her advice on some of the best products.

Ingredients will vary, but typical mood-enhancing herbs include St. John's wort, valerian root, kava-kava, chamomile and passion flower.

Mood enhancing amino acids include phenylalanine, tyrosine, GABA and theanine.

5-HTP, tryptophan and alpha lipoic acid might have some antidepressant qualities. The same can be said for folic acid and the B vitamins in general.

Some researchers recommend SAM-e, but I and others I know found it to be very expensive and ineffectual.

Again, there ain't much scientific studies of the remedies above. Your best bet might be to find some supplements that contain as many of the above ingredients as possible.

If it is possible for you, I would seriously suggest as much exercise as possibe, good nutrition, and some form of relaxation like meditation. Best wishes.

What is the best antidepressant you've tried, and what other one's have you tried that didn't work?

There are many good antidepressants in the market and I can tell you that there isn’t a single antidepressant that work for everybody, so the best antidepressant has to be chosen in an individualised matter. And even when the doctor choose an antidepressant that seem appropriate for a patient, sometimes the treatment fails, because we do not have correlates with specific biomarkers for depression and currently depression is being treated quasi-empirically.I will give you some examples of my preferences regarding antidepressants choice in a regular depressed patients. For instance, in a mild to moderate depression for me the best antidepressant would be escitalopram. In a more severe form of depression, I would choose either a SNRI such as duloxetine (especially when is a associated with a form of anxiety duloxetine seem to work best) or mirtazapine. When these antidepressants fail, I would go to venlafaxine. I have seen very good results with venlafaxine either alone or in combination with other augmentative methods in severe forms of depression. But, despite of the drug combination, some have resistant depression that do not respond to antidepressant treatment. They can try ECT and some of them have a good response. Of course, in bipolar depression other choices are “better” antidepressants so is in suicidal patients or other “atypical” patients.

Is there another way to deal with depression than antidepressants?

Yes. There are a range of routes you can do down which can be effective with or without antidepressants.TherapyThere are a range of talking therapies that are just as effective as medication. The most popular is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This involves looking at both your thoughts and going out and taking action that will improve your mood.If CBT doesn’t work for you, you can also try Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) and a range of counselling options.MindfulnessMindfulness is the idea that we should focus on the hear and now. Depression is often caused by us being unable to stop our thoughts dwelling on the past. Practising mindfulness allows us to re-train our mind to focus on the present and therefore avoid these negative thought loops.LifestyleHow we live our lives has a big impact on how we feel. This includes:ExerciseDietSleepRelaxationRelationshipsMaking small changes in our lives can be an excellent way to tackle depression because it produces long-term results that do not wear off over time.Studies have shown that making lifestyle changes can reduce depression and improve your mood in as little as 30 days. Best antidepressant for anxiety?

I think I need a little help..... (seeing a physician this afternoon) I was just wondering which anti-depressant drug is the safest with fewest side effects? I'm nervous to take it but seriously need it. Thank you for your response.

What antidepressants are good for anxiety?

First: See a doctor (a psychiatrist would be best) for the best medical advice. Now, it depends on the type of anxiety. A lot of anxiety is co-morbid with depression but it can also be a separate entity. Anti-depressants work on the brain (specifically the serotonin system) but there are different classes, such as SSRIs, SNRIs, Tricyclics, and MAOIs. Sometimes doctors tend to favor certain brands over others, whether this is due to the company pushing their drugs onto that practice or the doctor just having a personal preference or seeing it work more in their patients for example, and will start the trial and error process that way. Other times, if you have a specific type of anxiety like Social Anxiety Disorder, certain anti-depressants have already been shown to be a little bit better at treating that than others (Paxil, Zoloft). It really isn't a color-coded map unfortunately. The good news is that they usually will work in the long-term and that if your anxiety is severe, there is another class of drugs called benzodiazepines that can help in the short-term.Again, it is best (and advised) to seek professional advice about this but hopefully that is a bit of information for you. Personally, Zoloft worked best for my Social Anxiety. I am currently taking Welbutrin (and not Zoloft anymore) for depression and that helps in that aspect. Prozac, Effexor, Paxil, Lexapro, and Cymbalta are all probably names you might want to listen for because they are used in people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. But your psychiatrist will know much more when they can meet with you if you choose to make an appointment and can properly diagnose and treat you.EDIT: please, please see a psychiatrist if this question is about you. This really is not the place to get answers, especially after seeing the other answer posted. I respect all opinions but I provided a very simple answer that would be most similar to one you will likely get when visiting a doctor. Please don't be discouraged to seek help if you feel you need it. Please.I am not a psychologist or therapist, nor do I work in the mental health profession. Any answers and advice come from personal experience, education, and possible Google-consultation.
