What Are The Best Majors I Can Take After Law School

What major is best for Law School?

I want to major in History but will that be difficult enough to prepare someone for law school? I have a passion for History and I love it I would most certainly make terrific grades

Can you get into law school with any major?

Yes you can get into law school with any major. Pre-Law is probably the worst degree to get ironically to prepare you for law school. Get something you are interested in. English is a good major because writing is important. Getting a science degree is good if you want to get into patents/intellectual property. History is good too. But you can get accepted with any major.

Can I major in theatre before law school?

I want to be a lawyer. And I think the way a lot of colleges work is that you take pre-law classes and get a major in something like Political Science or Philosophy, and these are the most common degrees that get students into a law school.

But theatre is kind of one of my greatest passions, and I would really love to be able to enjoy it during my four years of college before law school. So my question is, is it possible, before law school, to a major in theatre?

I mean, it seems pretty related to me, you need public speaking skills as a lawyer after all :)

Thanks for the advice,
Johnny

What are the best undergraduate majors for Law School?

I am entering my Junior year in High School and I am planning to go to law school. I'm interested to know what majors are the best for Law School. I have heard that Political Science is very common. I am very interested in Business as a major but I worry that another major might better prepare me for the LSAT. Any help on this subject is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is Criminology a bad major for law school?

Hi, Rob. :)

For the most part, your major doesn't matter in law school admissions. Sure, admissions committees value highly challenging majors, like math or the hard sciences, but a background in these subjects serve, at best, as a tiebreaker with an applicant who has similar stats but studied something much less rigorous. On the other end of the spectrum, if you have a low GPA, the fact that you majored in electrical engineering won't help. You already need to be competitive at the school numbers-wise. A 2.8 in physics is still a 2.8, and if the law school doesn't take 2.8s, then your major won't do you any good.

Law school is mostly a numbers game, but I have heard anecdotally that majors like pre-law, criminology, and criminal justice are not particularly well regarded by admissions committees; however, if your stats are otherwise excellent, this really won't matter much. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if your major has absolutely no effect on your cycle whatsoever.

I'm going to PM you some more details.
