What is the best place to live in Canada?

It depends on what you do for a living, and what you enjoy. I've just returned from a few days in Regina, Saskatchewan. I was most impressed—what an absolutely shockingly pretty city! It would be a great place to live, but its economy is limited. You're not going to find a lot of dot-com developers or investment bankers there, but government jobs certainly exist, and I'd imagine energy and agricultural management opportunities are represented in the job pool.Vancouver is beautiful, the weather can be wet but at least not cold. However, it is insanely expensive, particularly for real estate. Single-family homes are pretty much out of reach for, I would say, all but the top 20% of us.Calgary’s an interesting place; sadly, currently in a slump, but its energy between slumps is appealing. It has finally (thankfully) gotten too big to just keep growing into its seemingly infinite surroundings, and so redevelopment of city neighborhoods has been a big emphasis over the past 5 or so years. The Beltline, Innisfil, and such spots are really exciting.Toronto is great (I love it) for a big city vibe, but can be a tough place for the wrong person. For instance, unskilled labor = a lifetime of living paycheque to paycheque and horribly long commutes from the further suburbs. There is also not a whole lot going on here in terms of manufacturing, so if you’re a die maker, for instance, it’s probably not your thing. The building trades, in contrast, do reasonably well, and anything white-collar (banking, law) is in good demand.Montreal is very cosmopolitan, sophisticated, and interesting, but difficult if you are not fluent in French. It has the lowest cost of living for a city of its size in Canada. And of course, there’s more than that…Saskatoon, Halifax, Edmonton, Winnipeg, are each the right spot for the right person. It depends, more than anything, on your age, income, education/career and family situation.

Where is the best place to live in Saskatoon?

There are some very nice areas in Saskatoon. And, there are some undesirable areas as well. The West side in what they call the “alphabet” streets, inbetween Idywyld Drive (which used to be Avenue A) and Avenue W and inbetween say 11th Street West and 30th Street West is what I would call the undesirable areas. You can tell as the houses are older, more run down and not maintained. Also, I believe that is a higher crime area. There has been a huge effort by the City of Saskatoon to remove that stigma and build attractions there near the river, but that does not make it any safer. There is extensive building on all sides of Saskatoon with new areas being built constantly. If you want to live near where you work, that should also be a consideration. There are a lot of new schools as well if that is something you need. There are many shopping centers scattered around the city with pretty much one in any new development. Think about what you need, what you want to be close to. Real estate agents are very good at what they do and will show you housing according to your needs, wants and price range. Older or newer, there are lots of choices. Another thing is, before you buy, look at the surrounding houses. Are they being kept up, neat, no heaps of old vehicles, only half kidding there as the city forces people to keep their lots clean to a certain extent. But, you get my drift. Good luck and enjoy your life in Saskatoon, it is a beautiful city!

What are some of the best places to live in California? Why?

Southern California is like Gods paradise.  I was raised in Northern California and came here to go to UCLA.  I fell in love with Los Angeles and never left after graduating. It's like 70-80 degrees 95% of the time and we have a bounty of natural wonders.  LA is one of the only places in the world you could literally ski the mountains in the morning and surf the ocean by evening. LA is not a monolith of silicone injections and implants; it's a rich tapestry, a collection of dozens of villages all with their own history, culture, and subculture.  And the food is wonderous - you can find delicious food from every region of the world, and now they even bring it all to you on swanky mobile food trucks. I lived in Studio City for a few years while going to college; it's really nice, great views of the hills, lots of variety in commerce on Ventura Blvd, and a easy commute to many other places.  Most of the sit com grade celebrities and many up and coming musical acts live in the area.  I loved it, but it gets a little hot in summer and it's a little uber trendy.I've jumped around a bit since graduating but spent the last 6 years in an area called South Bay, comprised ofManhatten Beach, Redondo Beach, and Hermosa Beach.South Bay is like a slice of heaven.  The beach is 5 minutes away and the highways are close but you don't ever really need to leave. We have great food, events and community.  I drive on Catalina Ave along the oceanfront each week and always find myself feeling humbled and blessed. Something about the salty, breezy air and golden sunshine warm my heart every time. I should also mention Santa Monica, or "Silicon Beach" the SoCal tech hotspot.   Santa Monica is a pretty amazing city and although I haven't lived there, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. The diversity of the people in Greater Los Angeles is just amazing; we have a little India, a little Ethiopia, a koreatown, and little everywhere else. That great cultural diversity has a added side benefit of having some of the hottest women on the planet just walking around. Seriously. Want to find a hot chick in LA? Throw a pebble and you'll hit one 4/5 tosses. There are dozens of cities as mentioned, all with their own benefits and flavor.  You can find whatever it is that you might be looking for; if you can't find it here it may not exist.  We welcome freaks, fairies and fellows all with open arms.
