What Are The Best Ways To Unwind/relax After A Difficult Long And Hectic Day

After a really long day what I really like to do is:Turn off all the lights.Turn on my desk lamp.Turn on a music playlistJazz, Electro Swing, Chill-step/trap/nightcore.Make my chair extremely comfortable. Then either:Start gaming.Start drawing.Start reading.Do math (weirdly enough just doing endless problems is relaxing to me).Watch a movie (with popcorn of course)Open up youtube and watch videos until 3 amAnd after that long activity, scroll through 9gag.

Stress stays with me for an entire weekend unless I drink beer. Getting a little tipsy takes away my stress completely and I feel great for the comibg days until I get stressed againOnly other thing for me that removes stress is a holiday where I have sufficient time to relax, a weekend isn't long enough for this to happen without alcohol

What relaxes you when you want to unwind?

A small pitcher of Manhattans with an extra dash of cherry juice... feet up on a cushion with a plate full of crackers, cheese and thinly sliced hard salami, with Mozart in the background and dimmed lights...

For years, this was my usual Friday night routine, when I was working for a paycheck. Now, retired, I am no longer limited to Friday...

Most importantly do things that makes feel happy to overcome the stress and tiredness of a busy day but still if you are looking for specific answers I few suggestions for you -1. The Twenty Minute RuleWe come home from a long day at work to find ourselves engaging in mindless activities like Facebook, Reddit, TV you name it.Most of us think that these are great ways to unwind until they occupy not minutes but hours of our time.Instead of gluing yourself in front of the TV, take twenty minutes to try one of the following:Read a bookWrite an article or blogLearn a foreign language MeditateIf these don’t suit you, find something that will encourage your personal and professional growth.2.Drink Water (Although to many of you it would appears to as a very general suggestion but trust me it can bring some serious health benefits for you)Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate Your body is made of approximately of 60 percent water and drinking water helps support body functions as digestion, body temperature regulation. It also helps boost your metabolism. But that doesn’t mean start pounding liters of. water immediately.Bring a water bottle with you and start working your way to the recommended guideline of eight cups through out your day.

I am semi retired but now as well as then a long run after work is fantastic. I hit the weights before work twice a week. Running after work sets me up for a peaceful dinner with my SO then a quiet evening to visit and share our day. BTW the kids are grown and gone so that is one less stressor to overcome.

At the end of a busy day I like to practice Yoga to unwind. I find it helps me shift out of a stressed state of feeling wound up into one where I am more calm and relaxed. This makes it easier for me to sleep! If I find that my mind is still racing I will make lists of everything that I accomplished that day and some action steps that I can take tomorrow to make things productive and smooth.I find that the best way to make sure I don't get super stressed during the day is to take short breaks to stretch, move and breathe throughout the day so that I stay calm, centered and focus. Even just a few minutes is super helpful for me to stay grounded! These shorts breaks are also shown to increase productivity rather than diminish it since you are able to stay focused and on task rather than spin out in stress mode!Try a 10 minute Yoga break here to ease neck and shoulder tension: Yoga at My Desk!

Thank you Yuliya for the A2A!In all sincerity, as a retiree with no job I haven't had a "long week" in three years.  That's by design.  I consciously rejected an offer of near-six-figure starting salary with the military-industrial complex and instead chose a downsized, minimalist lifestyle in the Hawai'ian islands. With deliberate care I've structured my retired life around a healthy -- and simultaneously invigorating and relaxing -- routine.  It consists of plenty of outdoor exercise in the beauty of O'ahu's mountains and ocean, nutritious (mostly vegetables/fruits) food and water, plenty of sleep, occasional yoga and meditation and mentally stimulating indoor activities, of which Quora is not the least. As a result the level of stress I feel these days is even less than what I felt on leave (vacation) when I was in the military.  So in that respect, my 20-year career was one 'long weekend' and I'm relaxing from it now.  As convicted felon Martha Stewart likes to say, "That's a good thing!"Next year I'll head back to the university to take classes and re-experience things like appointments, deadlines, homework and email coming from someone other than my friends and Nigeria's Minister of Finance, who would like to humbly offer me "... the opportunity to earn $28,000,000 for only a small up-front bank transaction fee."  Then my "... favorite way to relax after a long week ..." will be to hike a couple mountains, cool off by snorkeling with my friends the sharks and Portuguese men-o-war in the Pacific Ocean, fall asleep on the beach under a coconut tree, wake up to a delicious dinner of baked mahimahi in curry sauce and knock back a mai tai at the barefoot bar while watching the sun set before trundling home to bed.
