What does "sci fi" mean?

Sci Fi equals science fiction. It's also abbreviated as SF.

The classic definition of science fiction is a story set in a future time or on a future world. Using technology, we could eventually get there from here.

Some classic science fiction stories include "From the Earth to the Moon" by Jules Verne, "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" by Jules Verne, "The Time Machine" by H. G. Wells, "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley, and "Armageddon 2419 A. D." by Nowland.

As you know, we've reached the moon, but we hadn't in the 1860s when Jules Verne wrote his book. We also didn't have working submarines in 1867 when 20,000 Leagues was written.

The challenge in science fiction is to stay ahead of technology. Look at your cell phone. It is smaller and has a lot more features than the old Star Trek communicators.

What are some of the best sci-fi plots?

I asked this question yesterday but did not get the response I was looking for so I'll try again.

I'm relatively new to reading the Sci-Fi genre, and from a writing perspective, I would like to hear what were the plots or ideas of some of the better or more unique sci-fi books you have read?

I'm not looking for book ideas, but looking for your feedback of what you have read and what the plot or idea was, as well as what you think makes a good sci fi book.

For example, the Foundation Trilogy by Asimov has many sub-plots, but the main plot was based around the Seldon Philosophies and whether or not they come true. This plot or idea seems to thread through all of the other "mini stories and plots" that take place throughout the three books, and without the underlying idea of the Seldon Philosophies, the book wouldn't have carried along as well as it did.

So, what were some great plots, what made the book great, etc? Ultimately, from a writing perspective, I'm trying to find out what sorts of ideas have made sci-fi books really good.

Im making a scifi story what should i use instead of binoculars?

a spotting scope. much more powerful than binoculars, but you need to include a tripod to hold it. A camera either still or motion. The current models have fantastic zoom capability and there is a permanent record of what was seen.

Are there any science fiction media that feature friendly robots?

Quite a few.The term robot comes from the 1920 play R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots) by Czech writer Karl Capek. An indispensable background to robots in science fiction is Isaac Asimov’s I, Robot, a collection of short stories that form the basic framework for many of the portrayals of robot/human interaction in subsequent written fiction, films and TV. One of Asimov’s major contributions to the science fiction genre is the ‘Three Laws of Robotics,’ which he first proposed in the short story Runaround, one of the stories in I, Robot.A brief and by no means complete listing of friendly robots in science fiction. In no particular order:Robbie the Robot - First appeared in the 1956 film Forbidden Planet, later in the TV series Lost in Space.Gort - The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) - Klaatu’s bodyguard. He was scary, but not hostile until his boss was threatened.R2D2 and C3P0 - Star Wars.Data - Star Trek, the Next Generation. OK, technically Data is an android, not a robot, but where do we draw the line.Ash - Alien (1979). Like Data, Ash is an android, but again, the line is blurred, so I’ll include him.And many, many more.
