What makes a cellphone vibrate? Is it a central mechanism, or are there parts located throughout the phone?

Among the many components inside the phone is a small motor. The motor is built in such a way that it is partially off-balanced.In other words, a mass of improper weight distribution is attached to the motor's shaft/axis. So when the motor rotates, the irregular weight causes the phone to vibrate.I saw a part of my Motorola Moto E's motor when i opened the back cover.Below is the image of one type of vibrating motor; there are many types. The size is small... smaller than many currency coins. The mass at the left end in the picture below, almost resembling a half-moon is the off-balanced weight, the cylindrical part contains the motor.Hope this helps. :)Image source- Micro vibration motor / DCAs I mentioned earlier, there are other kinds of vibration mechanisms too.Image Source- Product Guide to Coin Vibration MotorHere is also a link for the vibrating motor in action. Thanks Kiran Kumar Pasam, for providing the link in the comments :)TIP :If you want to turn vibrations off in order to save battery, you cannot do it all at once. You can turn it ON/OFF for Messages or Calls by going into the Main Settings. But notifications for individual apps like Whatsapp, Hike, Facebook, Yahoo Mail, etc. need to be handled from the respective settings of each app.By going through the settings of individual apps, you may choose - - vibrations or led notifications for alerts.UPDATED with promoters -User-11383319046987876708 Thanks for promoting the answer :)Prabhakar Pandey Thanks for the promotion. Which is better: iPhone XS or Samsung S9?

The S9 and the iPhone XS are great phones… but I wouldn't buy the iPhone XS even if you prefer Apple.Firstly, I want to clarify, while the iPhone is in theory more secure, unless you're installing dodgy apks or downloading illegal music your Android phone will be perfectly safe. Every app on the play store goes through a security check and nothing is downloaded without your permission. Now back to the explanation. The S9 will provide you with a better display, expandable storage, an always on display and it will save you a lot of money compared to buying an iPhone in general (iPhones are expensive and have a high maintenance cost)The reason I wouldn't buy an iPhone XS is because Apple failed in this one. They should've released something more innovative that “a little bigger, a little faster” and it also has a half an hour battery life compared to the X. Now, it's impossible this was all they achieved in a year so clearly they have something waiting to be introduced next year. That's why if you want a phone that looks like the iPhone X, buy the iPhone X, it's cheaper and you probably don't need the XRDid you know, when Apple doesn't change the design of their phones too much, they add a limited edition colours to the new phone so if you bought it, people know that it's the newer phone. Examples, iPhone 6 to 6s rose gold, iPhone 7 and 7 plus jet black and [RED], iPhone X and XS there's a lot more colours
