I've tried a number of different recording apps for the iPhone, including the default app made by Apple, and I've found their quality, and the quality of the microphone, to be as good as the Olympus recorders. However, on a number of occasions I have had various iPhone recording apps quit on me causing me to irretrievably lose valuable information from meetings that I was recording. I also find it much easier to use the dedicated recorder quickly. It's a lot easier to grab that out of my pocket and hit the record button, instead of entering the passcode for my iPhone, searching for the recording app, and getting that started. I now use my Olympus digital recorder for any recordings.
