What Are The Odds Of Taking Grizzly Bear With A Combat Knife

Could any human beat a grizzly bear in a fight?

If the human had the right tools -- yes!

Grizzly bear -- all it takes is a knife lashed to the end of a stick. The bear's weight coming down on this knife/spear will kill it.

Most of a crocodile's muscles are for clamping down, it is fairly easy to hold the mouth shut.

Shark, yes it's been documented.

Tiger, yes it's been documented.

Anaconda, yes it's been documented.

Polar bear, it was a standard right of passage into manhood for many of the Inuits. Only a spear was permitted.

EDIT:
I can't imagine why any person would be stupid enough to attempt such a feat without weapons!

Without a weapon the chances would be slim to remote.

BTW: Why exclude weapons? Weapons are an integral part of the martial arts!
Are you saying that a person attacked is not allowed to pick up a stick, rock or any other implement at hand?

Anybody who does not use any and every implement at hand deserves to lose!

If you can not avoid a fight, my master's first rule was:
"Find a weapon for yourself." (ITF Taekwondo)

The .308 round vs. a Grizzly Bear, who wins?

Well i guess this is what it comes down to. If you see the bear before it sees you, and if you are already in a shooting position when it starts to move. A grizzly can run up to 30 mph so i suppose you could have 1000 rounds of ammo an it won't really help when you might get 2 to 3 shots off. your real advantage wouldn't be your shooting ability but your training. Lots of people can shoot really well but your training to react quickly would be your biggest advantage. A .308 will drop a grizzly in its tracks with the right ammo.

Tiger vs grizzly bear?

The tiger is a total ambush predator. Can sprint up to 50 mph and has amazing atlethic ability. It kills its prey through suffucation after tackling the animal with its massive jaws and forelimbs. The grizzly is a massive predator. Can sprint up to 35 mph. It uses speed, raw power, and its knife like claws to kill its prey. Tigers weigh from 400 to 600 pds and measures 9 to 11 ft long. The grizzly can weigh 1,700 and stand 10 ft tall. The outcome of this fight is the tiger. The tiger would use an ambush or a sneak attack and strike at the opprotune moment to attack from behind. The speed of the tiger would dominate.

Which would you rather battle a Grizzly bear, a Hippo, or a Tiger?

That's a tough one, they're all incredibly dangerous! I think you'd probably have the best chance against a tiger - if it was coming for you and you shouted and waved your arms, you could deter it from attacking you. Tigers have killed far fewer people than either hippos or bears - they do not usually see humans as prey, and will only turn to man-eating if old or injured and unable to catch their natural prey. Even then, they must first learn that humans are easy to kill. Bears, on the other hand, seem to see humans as just another prey animal, and think nothing of killing them. They are also far more aggressive. Hippos are the most dangerous of the three, killing more people than either of the other two and more people in Africa than any other animal. Whereas a tiger or bear would attack you only for food or if it felt threatened, hippos will attack you for invading their territory, for getting between them and the water, or just because they're bad-tempered - they are highly territorial and unpredictable, and despite what some people seem to think, are more than fast enough to catch a running human. Even if you were actually being attacked by a tiger or bear, you'd have a chance of surviving if you fought hard enough and convinced your attacker you weren't easy prey, but one chomp from a hippo's huge jaws and it'd be goodnight Vienna.

Would you rather fight a bear with a spear or 4 wolves with a knife? (The goal is to survive the attack with the animals dead, not running away.)

The goal of survival in these particular scenarios is impossible. If a bear or a pack of wolves were determined to kill a person who was armed with a spear or a knife, that person would be dead. You may be asking as a fun exercise with people weighing in with ideas of what they would do, but you have to know it is impossible.See this? How do you kill this with a spear?Check out one paw.Bears have been known to be shot point blank by a rifle and continued charging, killing the hunter. What will your spear do?Here is a pack of wolves:Imagine this is you being hunted by wolves. How do you feel about having a knife on you?Rottweilers have the strongest bite force of dogs with 328 pounds of bite pressure.A wolf’s normal bite force is around 400 pounds. If it is protecting itself, a large wolf can bite down with over 1,200 pounds of pressure.https://plexidors.com/myths-arou...Here they are killing a moose. This animal:Do you think you can defend yourself against a pack of wolves when an animal this size couldn’t?Or, if it was a female moose:The only question is which of the two kinds of animals would I rather killed me? I mean, as far as the story passed down through the generations. We have grandma getting run down by reindeer on Christmas eve. And then there’s grandma eaten by the big, bad wolf then cut out of its stomach by the hunter.Well, I guess I’d have to pick being mauled by wolves. I’ll tell you why. I’ve read a lot about bears. I love them. But the way they kill is horrifying. They tear off faces. A lot. Scalp people. Bite off appendages. The list goes on and on.I’m thinking a pack of wolves will make quick work of me. So there you go. Wolves it is. Grandmas and wolves; we go together like peanut butter and chocolate.

Do yall think a samurai could kill a grizzly bear with his sword?

Well, Yeah you certainly could, however you'd be at great risk.

You see, a katana is about 4 feet in length. When your opponent is a 1200 lb grizzly than can run 30 miles per hour and literally knock your head off with a swipe from his claws, 4 feet is deadly close. You'd really have to instantly kill the bear with a blow to his head, neck or a lucky thrust into his heart. If you didn't instantly kill the bear, then you are probably going to die a horrible death. Plus even if you kill the bear, his 9 foot body would still be moving at you and you could get crushed.

If I were going to kill a grizzly bear, I'd want a .308 rifle, a magnum handgun, and a huge can of bear mace.

PS someone mentioned sneaking up on a bear. WOW, no way. A bear will smell you a mile away and can see you with his excellent vision over the open tundra.

Can a 15 inch knife penetrate bear hide?

Bringing a knife to a bear fight - is like bringing a knife to a machine gun fight.

I live in Alaska. I have dozens of years experience in bear country setting up remote monitoring equipment for weather data.

That 15" knife is not going to stay in your hand more than 5 seconds. The first swipe of the bear paw is going to send you rolling and flying - you hang onto that knife when you hit or roll - it will probably break your wrist.

Ask anyone who has been mauled and attacked by a bear - they survived by rolling up into a little ball and playing dead. There is no way you can physically hold a knife that is more than a foot long and positon it for a full penetrating thrust while hugging that bear - or bunched up in a little ball.

You are better off with a smaller 4" blade that offers control.

Bigger is not better.

And nix the idea of getting behind the bear and slitting it's throat. You have never seen on in action. Even if you were a muscle beach weightlifing dude - that bear is going to do fast circles if you even got close to it's back - there is no way you could hang on more than a few micro seconds. Even the fur on a nice fall bear does not offer a long enough handle to grab. You would be spun off and tossed like a rag doll.

Even a big pistol - is not guarantee against grizzly bears. I have seen problem bears skun out - and found 44Mag slugs stuck in the fat layer, that have healed over. That means the bear was shot with a 44Mag, survived, and the wound healed over wtih no medical attention. Bullets - and knives - need to get past the hair, hide, fat, and muscle - they need to get into the vital organs and break bones to stop a bear.

Is it possible for a man to kill a bear with a bowie knife?

If at first you don’t succeed, sky diving and knife killing bears might not be your thing.I’ve seen and shot bears up close (with rubber bullets from a 12 gauge shotgun and a 30′06 rifle handy just in case.) Unless you’ve seen one move either in fear or anger, you have no idea how fast they can move. They can run for over a mile faster than a human can do for a hundred yards. Humans typically spend a moment thinking before acting, bears are pure instinct. They are scary up close and quite intimidating. Not quite shit your pants it’s d-day and you are on the first wave, but definitely “Oh shit, what am I doing.”My advice is to leave the bear alone.Your chances against a bear with intent to harm you are not good even with a rifle at close range. You might kill it with a lucky shot, but forensic examiners will be trying to figure out if you were born deformed or just ended up that way.We have black bears where I live and they mostly keep to themselves, but a Grizzly protecting a cub is not something I would want to mess with.If all you have is a knife, by all means use it, but write your name on the blade with a sharpie. We might be able to identify you by the knife left next to your corpse. Really, your chances against a bear are pretty damn slim with a knife. The following bit of humor stolen from the web after a brief search:In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear confrontations, the Montana Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and be alert for bears while in the field. …We advise that outdoors-men wear small bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren’t expecting them, and to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter….It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoors-men should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain lots of berries and fur. Grizzly bear droppings have little bells in it and smell like pepper.

Skilled knife fighter vs Tiger?

Against a fully grown bear/tiger/lion? - No, I don´t think so.
A knife as a weapon would probably not be enough at all, no matter how skilled the man is at using it.
These animals are so big, extremely powerful and very fast as well!
And imagine those gigantic predators have many kind of natural knifes (claws) on each paw, not to mention their massive jaws. They are born to kill!
I think it would be almost impossible for a human with a knife to cause lethal injury before he himself gets killed by the animal.
Kind regards from germany;)

What are your tips to fight a bear with your bare hands?

I am assuming you don’t have a gun, knife, sword, or super king-fu.And.Before we go to battle let’s talk about prevention. If you have anything that smells nice no matter if it is deodorant or energy bars put it in a bear canister or something that will seal it away. Keep in mind that bears have a better sense of smell than your average dog.Speaking of dogs, they are a good deterrent for bears. So keeping a dog around while you are hiking is a good deterrent along with a bell on your body that will warn the bear that you are around. This is important because bears typically don’t want to be bothered by puny humans.A fire is also a natural deterrent.Okay, so you wanted to know about fighting a bear barehanded. Let me tell you right now. If you come across a bear that is in hunter mode and you are the prey. You are weaponless but you desire this fight, it will end so badly for you.Now before the bear is tucking your head between your legs so you can kiss your butt goodbye, let me give you some suggestions.Walk with a purpose in the opposite direction. Away from the bear. The problem with running is that you may awaken their predatory instincts.Speaking of instincts. If the bear has gone into predator mode and is threatening, keep in mind that Bears are instinctively afraid of humans. So make your self big and bad. Move in a purposeful manner, wave your hand in the air, shout as menacingly as you possibly can. Grab a noise maker, pots and pans are good. If that isn’t around and you don’t think he is buying your act. Look for a stick or rocks (I will explain why in a moment). Don’t show fear. That wet spot between your leg is just adrenaline. And if that doesn’t work and assuming you don’t have a weapon on you, find one. A stick across the head signals to an animal that It should back off. I don’t know why but it does. You can use rocks from a distance, and it won’t hurt, but it may annoy the bear and convince him that it isn’t worth it.If not, call on whatever God you believe in. I would recommend Jesus, since he knows someone who fought a bear and won. Trust the adrenaline and energy coursing through your vein. Make sure you grip whatever is in your hand be it stick, rock or whatever you can find in the woods. Forget whatever martial arts you think you have mastered and go for the head (in particular the eyes) with a ferocity that no animal has witnessed.Good luck…well, you’re going to need more than luck.
