What Are The Requirements To Enter University Of Hiedelberg In Germany

What is it like to attend Heidelberg University?

I think we have to distinguish here between the Universität Heidelberg in Heidelberg, Germany and Heidelberg University in Tiffin (OH), United States. I think the common name for the former is "University of Heidelberg" but at times it is called 'Heidelberg University', too. The latter is usually just called "The Berg".Now, having attended both I can say that these are two different worlds. The one in Germany is a huge school ( > 31,000 enrollees), with alumni who are nobel prize laureates and a medical department which is among the best of the world (if not the best). It is a public school and due to the immense amount of students quite anonymous, it is not uncommon to have class with 100 or more fellow students and you usually don't really talk to your professor. There are no tuition fees.As mentioned above, it is located in Heidelberg, which is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and maybe the most beautiful city in Germany (but that's just my opinion), with a fascinating history and lots of tourists from all over the world. The other school is a typical American small town college, with tuition fees that are incredibly high by German standards but rather OK by American standards. It is really small (ca. 1000 students) and it is almost like everyone knows each other on campus, some of my american friends from there frequently compared it to a High School. It is a private school and I think it really does a good job with involving students in campus life, if you are engaged and motivated the school can really help you in your career, also because you know all your professors personally and they know you.Tiffin could be described as a typical midwestern town, with the exeption that it has two colleges ( the other one is Tiffin University). It is certainly not a bad place to live but can get a little boring and is by no means comparable to Heidelberg in Germany. Now I could go on and on about the differences of college in Germany (or Europe in general) and in the United States, but I feel like that's not what you were asking. If you specified which of these schools you meant, then perhaps I could  provide more information ;)

How hard is it to study at Heidelberg University?

It really depends. Law and medicine school for example are hard everywhere. If you take me for an example, i got my bachelors from the university of cologne and it wasn't easier concerning the workload or depth in which things were taught. So if you are fluent in german or study in english (there are a few fields that give lectures etc in english) and are a hard working student who takes her studies seriously, you'll be fine. What concerns and bothers me is the discrepance between the unis reputation and the actual daily routine as well as the city of heidelberg itself. I don't know how this is in other fields, but having all the books i need (and some i don't) doesn't make up for full lectures, overworked professors and the feeling of intruding into their academic circle if you are just a young student. The city is full of tourists at all times, so much so that you will sometimes jave difficulty getting from one lecture room to another because the tiny old town streets are just packed. You will also be in many vacation photo albums. It is just like in cambridge, actually.Flats are never enough and enormously overpriced. Yeah, the landscape and city is nice but at least jn the Geisteswissenschaften, Heidelberg university does not stand out in their quality of teaching among other german universities. I don't know about other fields though. Might be different for medicine, biology with EMBL amd studies of jewish history and religion.Another thing to consider is the newly introduced fees: if you are from a non-eu country you will have to pay 1500euro per semester. A lot of money! If i were you and had the grades and resources, i would rather consider going to cambridge or oxford.

Could Americans visit East Germany in the 1970's?

Was it possible for Americans to visit the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) in the late 60's/early 70's, or was it prohibited, like Cuba?

I'm specifically wondering about East Berlin. Could you visit family there? Conduct business? Simply visit as a tourist?

What was the process for getting a visa like?

Is an undergraduate medical course in medicine provided in English at the Heidelberg University School of Medicine, or is it only in German?

Anushka, there are no Medicine courses available in the entire country in Germany where the medium of education is English. There is a simple reason for this. The Government of Germany gives 100% subsidy to a foreign student which is a costly act of benevolence. Actually, its not benevolence at all. They wish to produce good doctors in such a way that the country can benefit from their career long services. This is ensured by teaching the students in German language, so they are eligible to practice in German speaking countries alone, which, incidentally is Germany only. But, the career in Germany is good and lucrative. However, the process to get into MBBS in Germany is complicated. So, my advice to you would be to go for an English Medium MBBS in Ukraine (Lviv National Medical University) and go for PG in Germany. But, you will have to stay and work in EU.Hope you get the point. For more information, log on to MOKSH Overseas Education Consultants | Study Abroad Consultants or call us at 7024240991/7024240992Check this link on Youtube -
