Why is Toriko so similar to HxH?
No offense to people who like Toriko... but WTF!? Why is it so similar to Hunter x Hunter?!??! It's pissing me off. I told my friend to read HxH but she said it's copying Toriko. HxH came first! Has anyone noticed this?!
Which one should I watch: Hunter x Hunter 1999 or 2011?
How about watch both? If so, start with the 1999. I prefer the 1999 as I’ve liked the soundtrack better and the extras (fillers, yeah they were great) were great too. But 2011 is longer and sticks to the manga better. You can also always watch 1999 and the OVAs then continue where the last episode of the last OVA (GI) has ended and watch 2011 version from that, if you don’t want to rewatch the old episodes that you have watched in the 1999 version.
Which manga is better: Hunter x Hunter or One Piece?
Well in my opinion Hunter x Hunter beats One piece hands down. The plot of hunter x hunter is much deeper than most other long running anime. Even the characters(Gon and Killua) are very well flashed out and it definitely has the best Antagonists (Meruem, Hisoka and Chrollo). So yeah for me its much better than One Piece but some may disagree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion therefore I don't mind someone pointing out reasons for why One Piece is better. Its just a matter of preferences.
Who is the strongest character in Hunter x Hunter?
I think the most powerful character, surpassing Meruem, is Don Freecss. He already traveled half of the Dark Continent, where chimera ants originated, and created a book out of it called "Journey to the New World". And according to Ging, he is still alive and creating the next edition by travelling the other half of Dark Continent. Aside from that, he traveled alone. Coming from Netero, there was an expedition held for Dark Continent which compose of Netero, Zzigg and another one. Considering Zzigg and the other one are powerful as the younger Netero, they still failed the expedition and comes back with a lot of negative effects, one of which is the chimera ants that they unknowingly brought into the human area.EDITI don't have any proof on this one, but I think chimera ants are common creatures in Dark Continent, so I'm expecting that there are more creatures stronger than meruem in Dark Continent. By that, Don Freecss is alone travelling freely in the Dark Continent with those kind of monsters for 300 years and counting.
Hunter x Hunter (1999) vs Hunter x Hunter (2011)?
I've seen both but I can honestly say that the 1999 version is the one I love. It's not about the gore for me. It's the atmosphere of the whole thing and the characters. The tension in the scenes in the original anime was so good and the resolution was such good pay offs to the tension. Even the art is so much more interesting in the original anime. Gon was so special in the first anime. He's like a beacon of innocence and purity and clear thinking amidst a world and cast of characters that are either immoral or amoral. I just don't see that in the newer version. Another thing is when any of the cast is in danger or is going in a dangerous situation you feel the danger. In the newer version I just don't feel it. It like I'm watching an adventure anime where the cast are supposed to go in adventures and they're going to come out unscathed. It's just not as good as the previous one. I'm not saying the 2011 version is not good what I"m saying is that it's not as good as the 1999 version. It's like it's been watered down, stripped of the things that made Hunter X Hunter special and produced to be similar to today's crop of animes.
